25.01.2022 Positronic Solar doesnt supply cheap systems. We supply properly designed systems that are installed by our experienced, trained employees. Consequently were often asked why our quotes are more expensive. Rick (who has been part of our team for eight years) was asked the question this week. Heres his response (apologies for the wall of text): .. thanks for sharing that quote .. theres a number of red flags which I will explain firstly the "in house installer on the q...Continue reading
24.01.2022 Weve been very busy this month with installations. The boys installed 37kW of Sunpower Maxeon 3 390W panels and Enphase microinverters on Aquarius Technologies new factory at Acacia Ridge this week. This is a top of the range system, chosen for Enphase efficiency and Sunpower panel quality. ... SunPower Maxeon panel quality is proven in actual field testing across 8 years and 800,000 panels at 264 sites. Maxeon solar panels demonstrated the lowest degradation rates in the industry, almost 4x stronger reliability than conventional panels. Maxeon panels are also backed by Sunpowers industry-leading warranty. Positronic Solars testing has shown at least 10% better yield using Enphase compared to string inverters. The reliability of Enphase is well known. If there is a failure, only one panel is affected and email alerts are generated, pinpointing where the problem is. In the unlikely event of a panel failure this is also pinpointed. The per panel monitoring is particularly important benefit to large commercial plant. We have a number of commercial customers installing their second or third system using Enphase. Theyre happy with the original string system, theyre even happier with their Enphase systems. Weve worked with John @ Positronic Solar on two commercial solar installations, a 35kW REC/Fronius system and now this 37kw Sunpower/Enphase and both have been extremely positive experiences. Everything from the design stage to installation I would rate A+, and the term professionalism cannot be emphasised enough when describing Positronic Solar and all their team members. -Ryan Palmer, Director Aquarius Technologies. Since 1989 Aquarius Technologies has been developing and manufacturing innovative water treatment controllers for both the Australian and international water treatment industries. The performance of this system can be seen on PVOutput.org. Look for Aquarius Technologies in Live Outputs. If youre looking to invest in a quality solar system for your business that pays for itself in 3 - 5 years, contact Positronic Solar. If you get in quick we can install before the end of June so you can take advantage of the Federal Government $150,000 instant asset write-off.
24.01.2022 Australia is wholly owned by the coal industry. This has to change.
24.01.2022 They still have some way to go but they're a long way further down the track than us.
23.01.2022 Those of you with younger Trannergys may have noticed they havent logged to pvoutput.org since 30/11. Theyre still logging to log.trannergy.com but for some reason the push isnt working. It will be fixed shortly.
23.01.2022 Here at Positronic we really like Enphase. Its efficient, its safe and there is a wealth of data for both us and our customers, which appeals to my own solar nerdiness. The data isnt just available on the app, there are easter eggs if youre handy with the code. Heres a graph put together by Julian, the son of one of our recent customers. "Your team recently installed solar at my folks place. ... Im impressed with the install and the systems capabilities. Nice work. No doubt youve seen all manner of integrations in your experience. I thought youd like to see some of the historic data logging Im doing out of interest. Note the N facing panels getting a little tree shadow from 9am - 9:45. That movie was really interesting. Its a very logical way of visualising production over time. For curiosity, my graph is running on 3 docker containers (Database, Graphing, and smarts for envoy API querying) on a home NAS. Its a work-in-progress though and very rough for now. 21.01.2022 Pumped hydro is the missing link in our electricity grid. A HVDC link from Adelaide to Perth with salt water turkey nest dams along the Nullarbor, combined with wind and solar farms would: 1. Extend the nations 'solar day' by four hours 2. Provide access to incredible wind and solar resources along the Bight 3. Provide massive amounts of storage and... 4. Provide tourist stops along the Nullarbor with salt water swimming The next stage would be a HVDC link to the Pilbara where Cannon-Brookes and Twiggy are building solar farms for energy export to SE Asia. Imagine the potential such a nation building project would give our export industry. See more

20.01.2022 One of our most popular questions in 2020 was How do I update/change my Wi-Fi settings on the Fronius inverter? We heard you and have an updated video of the ...tutorial with easy to follow step by step for you to update the Wi-Fi settings on the Fronius inverter https://youtu.be/zdgzaK7i12g A tip for quick access to view relevant Fronius content later is to create a collection for Fronius items on Facebook and save the post/video. 19.01.2022 Today were going back to the future. Back in 2008 we were supporting the Australian solar manufacturing industry - yes, there was one back then. We were using Latronic inverters, made on the Sunshine Coast, many of which are still working. Our webpage was advertising a 1kW system for $5,500. By 2011 Australias solar manufacturing had been decimated by Chinese imports and weve been selling European and Chinese inverters since then.... I have found a new Australian inverter manufacturer, MIL-Solar. The 5kW Eclipse will be nailed to the wall of death next week and will be given a good going over. MIL_Systems main business is building power systems for the Australian Defence Force, so Im pretty confident it can take some abuse. The Eclipse logs consumption and production to PVOutput, as well as the MIL cloud. Its quiet, with no fan. Its efficient and has a low turn on voltage so it starts early and finishes late in the day. Now, in 2020 you can buy an Australian 5kW inverter with 6.6kW of Longi panels for $6,600. Call us on 07 3103 6018 and get Positronic Solar, an Australian company with 30 years experience, to supply you a system with an Australian inverter at its heart. See more
19.01.2022 As the Professor says, microinverters solve all the problems associated with DC isolators. Of course, getting rid of them altogether works as well.

15.01.2022 Heres a bit of light reading if youre looking for a quality solar system. If you havent encountered Anish yet, youll enjoy his youtube clip. Warning: NSFW - hes talking to a particularly unhappy customer who lapses into pretty unsavoury language towards the end. https://solarscams.com/
15.01.2022 The Positronic team produced 23.42MWh on the Solstice - despite the smoky haze. Great result, team. Onward and upward in 2020!
15.01.2022 When next you see or hear some idiot bleating 'but renewables are unreliable. What happens when the wind stops blowing and the sun stops shining?' remember this. This is achievable in the early stages of renewable grid development. With more pumped hydro storage the gas generators wouldn't be required. https://reneweconomy.com.au/wind-and-batteries-saved-the-d/
13.01.2022 Yep, this is another Enphase post... We installed nearly 12kW of Longi 370W panels with 32 x Enphase IQ7+ inverters at North Lakes this week. Yesterday it produced 52kWh, not a bad result with north east and west panels on a fairly cloudy day.... Carls pretty impressed, "Thanks for all the info and install pics. Great to see! Very happy with the system so far. We have been keeping an eye on the enlighten app and impressed with the production already. Cant wait to see what it can do in summer! Please also pass on our thanks to the install team for an excellent job - they smashed it on the day and it all looks incredibly well done."

13.01.2022 2020 is looking huge. Here's some jobs from this week. We've got Sunpower P19-325s, REC325TwinPeaks and Longi 315s. The Sunpowers definitely look sweet and they punch out the kWh.
13.01.2022 Us hippie, greenie tree-huggers are often accused of being anti-mining. We're not, we're anti coal-mining. Here's a way to clean up the steel industry and create a heap of new jobs in the process.
12.01.2022 Is solar worth it? Ians bills were running at about $1200 per quarter. Its a pretty large house with ducted air conditioning, a pool and off peak hot water. Winter power use is ~30kWh per day, summer use is ~50kWh per day with the air con being the biggest contributor in summer.... We installed a 15kW system at the end of April with 44 x Longi 350W panels and 44 x Enphase IQ7+ microinverters. Most of the panels face north, with 15 panels facing west. The western end of the house has fairly heavy shading due to trees and aerials. The cost of the system was $20,950. Since installation it has produced an average of 57kWh per day, not bad for winter. Ian has just received his first full bill since the solar was installed for the months of May, June and July. The system produced 4940kWh in those three months, exporting 3355kWh, earning $408. 1585kWh of solar energy was self consumed, saving $423. The system has saved $831 in the first 3 (winter) months of operation. Hot water cost $136 in the quarter. Well soon be installing a Catchpower to divert solar energy to the hot water system, which will reduce the bill further. Net savings will be $72 per quarter when you deduct foregone export revenue. The Catchpower will pay for itself in about three years. His total winter bill came to $83.27. Our quote predicted a bill of $73, which is within coo-ee of the result. Were predicting a negative bill of $700 over the full year. The projected payback time is 4 - 5 years. With an estimated 25pc return tax free, investment in solar is definitely worth it. To make the best investment possible ring Positronic Solar 3103 6018 and get a design and quote for a quality solar system.

12.01.2022 The guys at Positronic were really good to deal with. After a long drawn out process of sifting through the masses of installers and worrying about Hiring some...one who could potentially damage our roof or poorly install something that could have big consequences, John and his team did a great job under trying circumstances with the current pandemic affecting suppliers, He upgraded our panels when they couldnt deliver our order and wouldnt take extra even though I offered. Great, honest, reliable Business with a real want to be the good guys in an industry full of shit companies. Worth every cent. Thanks Guys. The panels and install Look Great too, so thanks to Jack and his offsiders. Wouldnt hesitate to recommend to anyone.
11.01.2022 Positronic Solar has always been at the bleeding edge of renewable technology. In conjunction with developers around the world and here in Australia we have a package due for release later today that promises unlimited clean energy and storage. Based on permanent magnet generators and flywheel storage this package can power your house or business perpetually. The generator stores the flux created by the rotation of the permanent magnets in supercapacitors, which then releas...e the energy back into the generator providing self sustaining rotation with excess energy used to spin the flywheel. The flywheel spins at 144,000rpm in a vacuum on magnetic bearings. The energy available in the vacuum adds to the energy delivered by the generator. When loads are heavier than the generator can supply, the flywheel adds its energy to the supply. Further details and pricing will be available as part of the product release this afternoon. See more

09.01.2022 I've neglected the page for a couple of weeks, but I have a good excuse... We've been building a 36kW off grid power station for Tirranna Roadhouse, at the southern end of the Gulf of Carpentaria, -17.8958415,139.296065 We've used 5 second hand XW6048s and 1 new XW8548, derated. There are two inverters per phase. There are 12 x XWMPPT80600 5kW regulators with more than 50kW of panels. We've got 7 x Discover AES 6.6kWh LiFePo batteries, to provide one hour of storage.... This system will be turning the 100kVA generator off while the sun is up, the batteries are to provide ride through in case of clouds. Tirranna uses ~350kWh per day, this will save about 10 hours generator run time and supply ~200kWh per day. Next week we go to the other extreme, a 2.5kW inverter with 6 panels and a 3.5kWh SimliPhi. 08.01.2022 You may have heard of a community called Wytaliba near Glen Innes. They had two fires go through the place, the second one destroyed everything, including the bridge into the community. Chris has just picked up a truckload of inverters, batteries, regulators and panels. He told me that now the rain is washing away the roads. They cant rebuild because the community needs HAZMAT inspections for asbestos etc. They cant get inspections because no access. The truckload of sol...ar gear will be going into storage at Grafton because no access. Its been three months since the last fire and they are still camping. No doubt its a similar story elsewhere up and down the east coast. The news trucks have packed up and gone to the next story, but the disaster is still happening. We have governments sitting on their hands. We have tens of millions of donations sitting in bank accounts while families are camping in the bush. This is a national disgrace. See more
08.01.2022 We need to do this. HVDC from Adelaide to Perth, with wind, solar and pumped hydro along the way. The Feds are talking about building a gas pipeline across the continent - this makes a lot more sense.
08.01.2022 Heres a modest residential system the boys installed last week. its got 80 x Longi 315W split cell panels on a Fronius Symo 20. The panels are arranged on the north, north-east and south-west roofs with the north and south-west panels sharing an MPPT. Looking at the "History page from Solarweb, I think its safe to say that having two azimuths on one MPPT works, with the inverter peaking at 19.38kW. Overall energy output isnt too bad - on a sunny day its running at over ...6.5kWh/kW efficiency with a maximum output so far of 159kWh per day. The main switchboard is 100 metres from the inverter so the Fronius Energy Meter communicates with the inverter via an 80 metre run of serial cable, with the final hop over wifi. The walls are Hebel block which arent too good to bolt 40kg weights to and meant we had to build a frame for the inverter. Multiple parallel strings required string fusing. This is a big house with a big air conditioning and hot water load. Most of the systems production is used during the day which means the payback time on the $20,000 investment will be around the 3 year mark. This job is an example of the care Positronic takes with design and installation. Our jobs are tailored to your home and your energy use with the aim of providing you with the best outcome, both visually and financially. See more

06.01.2022 Back in October we began using the Enphase IQ7A microinverters on all our installations. Longi 370s are now peaking to ~325W, basically held back by the temperature of the panel reducing the maximum voltage. That's certainly better than peaking to 295W on the IQ7+ but we decided to go even better with our designs. We're now installing Longi 450W panels with the IQ7A microinverters and they're peaking at 365W - which is as hard as the IQ7As can go. Pricing is better as well, a... 6.75kW Longi/Enphase (5.2kW of inverter) is only $700 more than a 6.66kW Longi/Fronius Primo 5. Longi 450 panels combined with Enphase IQ7A microinverters is a competitively priced system that performs incredibly well with all the safety and reliability advantages of an AC solar system. 06.01.2022 Weve done a couple of off grid systems in the past week. One is a system designed for a proper house, capable of supplying 20 - 35kWh per day with a load of up to 8kW and 14kWh of storage. The other is a cottage sized system supplying 10 - 15 kWh per day with up to 4kW of load and 7kWh of storage. Both systems use Schneider components coupled with Discover batteries, which communicate with the Schneider gear providing optimum performance and battery life. Both systems can ...heat a standard hot water system when the batteries are full. The larger system has two XW MPPT 80 600 regulators with a 9.46kWp array using Longi 430W panels. The smaller system has shade so it has two XW MPPT 60 150 regulators with 18 Longi 350W panels arranged in 6 strings of 3 to break up the shade. At the time the photo was taken (1:30pm) the system was producing 800W. We wired up both premises with energy efficient lighting and power. 06.01.2022 Avid readers will know that Enphase is our number one choice of inverter. Over 90% of our installations are now Enphase. Apart from the greater efficiency, shade tolerance, per panel monitoring etc the biggest advantage Enphase has is safety. Enphase doesn't have high voltage unprotected DC circuits running through your house. Enphase doesn't have DC roof top isolators ,known in the trade as roof top incendiaries. I and nearly every other solar installer in the country have ...been arguing against them since they were brought in - to no avail. For those of you with string inverters, don't panic. We haven't had a fire yet. Positronic installs quality components properly. For those of you with string inverters, I strongly recommend you get your system checked every 5 years. Here's a photo of a job (not ours) that we inspected last week. You can see the DC isolator glowing through the plastic cover and the aluminium sun shield. https://www.smh.com.au//the-irony-s-not-lost-on-me-solar-p See more

05.01.2022 Another reason to like Enphase... This week we replaced a faulty 1.5kW system on the 55c Solar Bonus feed in tariff. The rules say you can replace the system and keep the tariff as long as you dont increase the array by more than 5pc or the inverter size by any amount. This can be tricky if you try to do it with a string inverter. ... This weeks job had 8 x 200W panels and a 1.5kW inverter. Both the panels and the inverter were kaput. Replacing the system with 5 x 315W panels and a Fronius Galvo 1.5 would work, but not very well, the string voltage is too low and efficiency would be shot. It would cost $3800. We replaced the system with 5 x Aleo (made in Germany) 315W panels with 5 x Enphase IQ7+ 290W microinverters, complete with an Envoy to monitor consumption as well as production. It cost $3800. The panels each have their own inverter so output is optimised. Weve found Enphase systems produce 10 - 14pc more than an identical string system. This is very important when theres another eight years of Solar Bonus FIT in front of us. The replacement system will pay for itself in 2 -3 years and by the time 2028 rolls around will have paid for itself three times over. In 2028, Janine can choose to expand her system which will be easy as all Enphase improvements are backward compatible with legacy systems. It will just be a case of adding more panels as required. Janines happy, "Thank you. Was great to see the photos. Jack was very pleasant. Pleased to have the job done so quickly. Happy to recommend your services." See more

04.01.2022 When next you see or hear some idiot bleating but renewables are unreliable. What happens when the wind stops blowing and the sun stops shining? remember this. This is achievable in the early stages of renewable grid development. With more pumped hydro storage the gas generators wouldnt be required. https://reneweconomy.com.au/wind-and-batteries-saved-the-d/
04.01.2022 2020 is looking huge. Heres some jobs from this week. Weve got Sunpower P19-325s, REC325TwinPeaks and Longi 315s. The Sunpowers definitely look sweet and they punch out the kWh.
04.01.2022 Positronic Solar doesn't supply cheap systems. We supply properly designed systems that are installed by our experienced, trained employees. Consequently we're often asked why our quotes are more expensive. Rick (who has been part of our team for eight years) was asked the question this week. Here's his response (apologies for the wall of text): .. thanks for sharing that quote .. theres a number of red flags which I will explain firstly the "in house installer on the q...Continue reading

03.01.2022 I just have to show this off. Well done team!
03.01.2022 Us hippie, greenie tree-huggers are often accused of being anti-mining. Were not, were anti coal-mining. Heres a way to clean up the steel industry and create a heap of new jobs in the process.
03.01.2022 Lest we forget.
03.01.2022 Here's a modest residential system the boys installed last week. it's got 80 x Longi 315W split cell panels on a Fronius Symo 20. The panels are arranged on the north, north-east and south-west roofs with the north and south-west panels sharing an MPPT. Looking at the "History' page from Solarweb, I think it's safe to say that having two azimuths on one MPPT works, with the inverter peaking at 19.38kW. Overall energy output isn't too bad - on a sunny day it's running at over ...6.5kWh/kW efficiency with a maximum output so far of 159kWh per day. The main switchboard is 100 metres from the inverter so the Fronius Energy Meter communicates with the inverter via an 80 metre run of serial cable, with the final hop over wifi. The walls are Hebel block which aren't too good to bolt 40kg weights to and meant we had to build a frame for the inverter. Multiple parallel strings required string fusing. This is a big house with a big air conditioning and hot water load. Most of the system's production is used during the day which means the payback time on the $20,000 investment will be around the 3 year mark. This job is an example of the care Positronic takes with design and installation. Our jobs are tailored to your home and your energy use with the aim of providing you with the best outcome, both visually and financially. See more
03.01.2022 We did a tiny off grid yesterday. "Mark and I have just returned from Esk to check out the new solar system on the shed. We would both like to say a huge thank you to you and your team for the fantastic job you have done. We are thrilled with your work and the system you have provided. Many thanks for the brilliant service we have received from Positronic."... Thanks Christine. Christines system has a Schneider 4kW inverter/charger, MPPT 60 150 regulator, SimpliPhi 3.5kWh LiFePo battery and nine Longi 315W panels. We also wired the shed with five powerpoints and four lights while we were there.
01.01.2022 Last week one of our Fronius threw up some error messages. I updated the firmware remotely and let the customer know. Andrews reply: Hi John, I wasnt really using SolarWeb and so wasnt aware of some logging issues. ... After all whats really important is electricity bills from the retailer (which have been mostly negative - the system works very well!). Thanks for updating the firmware though and resolving this. I appreciate your ongoing support. Just another reason to choose Positronic.
01.01.2022 Here's a bit of timely advice from CSIRO. https://blog.csiro.au/solar-panel-performance/ Of course, we provide a panel clean and check service. I have a crew running around Springfield now checking on panels after the hailstorm on Saturday. We're not just checking whether they're smashed, we're also taking thermal images to see whether the panels that haven't shattered have sustained damage to the cells.... Here are some photos of systems at the Sunshine Coast that had cricket balls land on them last December. The panels weren't smashed but the wafers were cracked. The photos went into to the insurance reports and both insurance companies paid for full replacement. See more
