25.01.2022 Last week, two very special sheep, Stewie and Rabbit, travelled to the Sanctuary. These beautiful big boys have come from a loving home, but due unforeseen circumstance are spending some time in the Valley. They are settling into their new routine well and love having a neighbourly catch up with Digby and the flock #sheeplove #sheepfriends

25.01.2022 Buddy would like to say a big ‘thank you’ for all the get well wishes! He’s feeling stronger today and resting up in the office while wearing one of his favourite Treetop Gifts bandannas to cheer himself up! He is receiving ongoing treatment from his vets, including antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and vitamins and hoping to be back shouting at visitors very soon! #possumvalleyanimalsanctuary #valleyofhope #rescuelamb #lamblove #buddylamb #littlehero

25.01.2022 Baby Jasmine is learning that sometimes the grass is greener on the other side of the fence @kymsher #rescuesheep #lambfam #thatface

24.01.2022 Poor Buddy has been feeling a little flat the last 24 hours and today was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection. He’s started treatment and is getting lots of TLC inside in the warm A huge thanks to Dr Henry and the staff at Farm Animal Services @The Animal Hospital, Murdoch, for helping Buddy these past couple days - we’re hoping he’s back on his hooves soon! #rescuelamb #lamblove #lambfam #buddylamb #littlehero #farmanimalvets

24.01.2022 Breakfast with Mum Chloe loves the corn in the grain mix, while baby Eve prefers the sunflower seed. Chloe can often be seen picking up sunflower seeds that she finds while foraging and offering them to little Eve as if to say, ‘Hey kiddo! Here’s one of your favs!’ Her love and attachment to her tiny chick is heart melting. Animal families matter @hbfwah #peachick #chickpea #sanctuary

24.01.2022 Maisies favourite place - wherever the cuddles are! Check out her new little nose wrinkle #rescuelamb #lamblove #lambfam

24.01.2022 Its been a huge weekend in the Valley... a wildflower workshop, two tours, a busy bee, a possum release, whipper snipping over 10 acres (exaggeration... but the grassy areas seems that big! ), hay collection and a couple hail storms to keep us on our toes! Our volunteers are incredible and despite some wintery weather, they just keep on keeping on - and with a smile! We cant thank them enough! #rescueanimals #sanctuarylife #busybee

23.01.2022 A big Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there! Raymond is Poppy Lambs Dad - hes a very handsome and gentle guy Today he will be enjoying some extra weet-bix, so be sure to spoil your Dad too! #rescuesheep #rescueram #happyfathersday

23.01.2022 Thanks to a Lotterywest Covid-19 Relief Fund Grant this year, we have been able to continue our critical rescue work, despite limitations holding our major fundraising events. From vet fees to hay bales, @lotterywest funds have been an amazing help - so next time you buy a lotto ticket, just remember that while you might not be a winner, lots of charities in need will be #rescueanimals #thankyou

22.01.2022 The grass is always greener on the other side, isn’t it Penny! @hbfwah #rescuelamb

22.01.2022 Can ewe help? Maisie and her lamb friends are desperately in need of clean towels and large non-fitted, queen or king size flat sheets - these can be dropped at the Sanctuary, brought along to events or message us for alternative metro drop off points. Please no fitted sheets or other items as we are very limited to store or pass on other items. Thank ewe! #possumvalleyanimalsanctuary #valleyofhope #weneedyou

22.01.2022 Morning hair It’s been a rainy week in the Valley, but today the sun is shining and Rhapsody is looking forward to her fluffy fringe look returning! Soon she will enjoy her summer trim and say goodbye to her post rain styling issues Meanwhile, photo bombing Barry is feeling relieved for his short goat coat #rescuealpaca #alpacalove #sanctuarylife

22.01.2022 Garry demonstrating that the vets arrival is not to be feared... rather taken as an opportunity for a joy ride! #sanctuarylife #sanctuarycat #rescuecat

21.01.2022 Last week, Walter, one of the Valley’s elderly soft release possums, appeared lethargic and without appetite. A prompt visit to see our wonderful wildlife vets at Wattlegrove Vet Hospital suggested he was very dehydrated following the recent hot weather. A day on fluids in clinic and lots of TLC soon had this sweet old boy back on his paws #possum #wildliferehab #landforwildlife

21.01.2022 Stewie and Rabbit are modelling the Sanctuary’s newly built special needs area! Named ‘Austin’s Place’, after baby Austin who sadly spent just a few short weeks in our care, the facility is dedicated to sight and mobility impaired residents. Allowing a safe enclosure for play and sunshine under our watchful eye, 'Austin’s Place' will give special needs arrivals the opportunity to live life to their fullest, despite their health or physical challenges. A huge thank you to Adam and Shelley at Allweather Patios for their amazing work and to everyone who donated to Digby’s Facebook birthday fundraiser earlier this year, which help fund part of the project. Watch this space to see who will call ‘Austin’s Place’ home #rescueanimals #thankyou #austinsplace

21.01.2022 Did you know know that goats lovvvve chin rubs? Lenny especially #rescuegoat #goatlove

20.01.2022 In the first of our Christmas ‘Stories of Hope’, we feature Clyde the Turkey Clyde arrived in the Valley in Spring, after sadly losing his human carer. Having a strong bond with his yard mates, Bonnie Sheep and Sally Hen, the Sanctuary was contacted to provide a safe forever home at short notice, where the trio could remain together in safety. Clyde’s accomodation and ongoing care is made possible by the generosity of Sanctuary supporters, with donations helping to cover the costs of Clyde’s crumbles, his favourite corn and lettuce and the straw for his weekly bedding changes. Please keep animals, such as Clyde, in your thoughts this Christmas and if you can, donate or share our posts - your support helps us give more animals lives worth living To donate, see https://www.givenow.com.au/possumvalley #christmastime #sanctuary

20.01.2022 Today we held our first Make a Foraged Wildflower Bouquet workshop in the Valley. Sanctuary volunteer and florist extraordinaire Emma guided a beautiful group of participants in creating their own floral masterpieces. Thank you to everyone who supported the event and hoping you had a wonderful time! #sanctuarylife #fundraising #wildflowerbouquet

20.01.2022 ‘Hey there! Can you come help out this Sunday?’ Baby Alby is hoping to recruit as many volunteers as possible for this Sunday’s ‘Sanctuary Busy Bee’! Just a few hours will make a big difference for the animals - and a delicious gourmet picnic lunch is included! For more details and to register https://m.facebook.com/events/3978764358808802? 19.01.2022 In the second of our Christmas ‘Stories of Hope’, we feature dear Imogen, one of our gorgeous golden oldies. Imogen arrived in the Valley with her three sisters, Honey, Carla and Mrs Digby six years ago, with council rangers capturing the girls after months roaming regional bushland. All four were thin and tired, sporting matted coats, covered in grass seeds. Despite their poorly condition, they were quick and clever, outsmarting our first attempts to trim their fleeces and h...ooves. With time came trust and soon the sisters were accepting treats and allowing pats, which progressed to back and belly rubs, making health checks much easier and safer for all concerned. After four years relaxing in the main Sanctuary flock, it was decided that Imogen would graduate to the ‘seniors’ area, where she could enjoy a diet more accommodating of her gradual tooth loss, without competition from younger residents. Family and friends are always an important consideration when moving animals, so it was critical that Mrs Digby joined Imogen on her transition. With the change came more human attention, treats and contact, with the once skittish Imogen now happily seeking human company, nuzzling at the hands of those in reach and hoofing in the hope of a weet-bix or two. Imogen now spends her days resting in the sun, no doubt reminiscing her lambhood and bushland adventures. We are heartened that we can provide a place for Imogen to enjoy her elderly years, knowing that running and hiding will never again be needed, knowing that she is ‘home’. Imogen’s vet checks, chaff and pellet mix, weet-bix, straw and ongoing care are made possible by the generosity of Sanctuary supporters - for which we thank you. Please keep animals, such as Imogen, in your thoughts this Christmas and if you can, donate or share our posts - your support helps us give more animals lives worth living To donate, see https://www.givenow.com.au/possumvalley #possumvalleyanimalsanctuary #valleyofhope #christmastime #sanctuary See more

19.01.2022 By popular demand - tonight’s post is the absolutely adorable Buddy Lamb! Buddy’s health has been a rollercoaster ride these past weeks, but he’s getting lots of love and TLC. Yesterday we enjoyed a cool change in the weather, which meant this sweet little guy could enjoy playtime with his lamb fam - an absolute joy to watch! @hbfwah #rescuelamb #lambfam #sanctuary #buddylamb

19.01.2022 Musicians wanted. Seeking talented artists, whether soloists, bands, singers or players, to lead us at Carols in the Valley on 5 December. Please DM if you are available to assist.

18.01.2022 On Saturday, the Sanctuary enjoyed its very first wedding! Animal lovers Tash and Lukas chose the Valley’s forest in which to hold their ceremony, before exploring the native gardens for photos with some super cute farm friends, Rocky and Maisie We wish them all the happiness in the world - what a perfect day! @tylerbrownphotography #possumvalleyanimalsanctuary #valleyofhope #sanctuarywedding #love

18.01.2022 Each year, the Valley’s resident tawny frogmouths rear their young in the jarrah forest at the northern end of the property. This fluffy fledgling was seen tonight roosting above the letterbox - the little one appears to be on his ‘L’ plates, but keeping up with his family just fine. Watching Mumma tawny bringing moths for the little guy was super special and we feel privileged to live along side such beautiful wildlife #tawnyfrogmouth #landforwildlife #theirhometoo

18.01.2022 This afternoon Teddy was taken to clinic with a very unwell tummy. Sadly, many orphaned lambs have poor immune systems, so we act quickly when things arent quite right. Thankfully following treatment with one of our lovely sheep vets (and muesli treats at clinic!) Teddy is home and feeling much more comfortable Isnt he the most adorable passenger? #rescuelamb #lambfam #lamblove #sanctuarylife

17.01.2022 Plotting a Sanctuary takeover? #rescuesheep #secretsheepbusiness

17.01.2022 Put a little love in your heart’ Today is the first day of our ‘Possum Valley Christmas Appeal’ Each day, leading up to Christmas, we will feature a story of hope, made possible by the generosity of our supporters 2020 has been a challenging year for many, including the animals, with the number of residents at the Sanctuary now exceeding 200. Aside from adopting animals in critical need, we work hard to rescue and rehome many more. Please keep the animals in the Valley in your thoughts this Christmas and if you can, donate or share our posts - your support helps us give more animals lives worth living To donate, see https://www.givenow.com.au/possumvalley #christmastime #sanctuary

16.01.2022 Despite the arrival of Spring, its been a cold and rainy week in the Valley. Merle has been keeping her babies close and taking them to shelter as the fronts move through. Watching the family snuggle in the straw, it is difficult to think of the thousands of sheep lambing during these cold months without shelter. These animals deserve so much more. #rescuesheep #lambfam

16.01.2022 It may be Monday, but Gus is feelin’ fancy! @ds00769 #rescuepeacock

16.01.2022 What are you doing for Halloween? Timmy isn’t into dress ups, so opted instead for a Halloweeny kinda story... guess we’ll be leaving the light on tonight Timmy... #rescuesheep #rescuelamb #sanctuaryfun #halloween #readingwithsheep

15.01.2022 Road trippin’... Yesterday our dedicated crew did a ten hour round trip to collect some very precious cargo from the south west ... Apollo, Robbo and Quinn The sweet black and white trio were born on a merino wool property, their dark fleece meaning they would be unable to stay in the flock. The kind farmer was happy for the trio to come to the Sanctuary to live, caring for them in their yard until they could catch a ride to the Valley. We can’t wait for these babies to meet their new flock mates - who are all colours, shapes and sizes! @jenny_inthewild #rescuelambs #lamblove #lambfam #volunteersrock

15.01.2022 Can you help us keep the animals safe? This Sunday is our last busy bee for 2020 and we would love it to be huge! Bushfire season is almost here and there is lots to do in the Valley in readiness for summer - jobs include raking, pruning and weeding and no experience is necessary! To register your attendance and to assist with catering, please see: https://m.facebook.com/events/1527102534157632 Pictured is one of our Sanctuary superstars, Sareth, helping keep the animals safe! #busybee #bushfireready #keepingthemsafe

14.01.2022 Lucky Duck is getting ready for a big weekend of flapping on the pond and napping in the orchard! He seems very content with his transition from life on the street to care at the Sanctuary @hbfwah #rescueduck #ducklife #sanctuarylife

14.01.2022 It seems summer is well on the way... bringing with it the relentless bush flies which cause grief to so many of our residents, in particular beautiful old Mrs Moo. With fly repellent proving ineffective at protecting her face, we at last have found a fly veil to fit! While Mrs Moo would’ve preferred a pink shade, she’s agreed on wearing the blue given how well it protects her big bovine eyes Don’t you think she looks fashionable? We do! #rescuecow #goldenoldie #mrsmoo

14.01.2022 In the past weeks we have been excited to watch Buddys huge improvement in his mobility. From arriving with no strength to lift anything except his little head, Buddy is now standing on his own and exploring far and wide. After weeks of rehabilitation following a fox attack, Buddy has found his hooves! He is quite the socialite, visiting rescued friends each evening while having his exercises, meanwhile looking for any stray hay treats on the carpet We are so incredibly proud of how far Buddy has come and we cant thank the amazing vet staff and supporters whove been right behind him! What a champ! #rescuelamb #lamblove #lambfam

14.01.2022 Today we held our first ‘Make a Wildflower Wreath’ workshop in the Valley - just look at these creations! Following a tour of the Sanctuary while collecting floral treasures, the group were guided by florist extraordinaire Emma on constructing their wreath - with amazing results! Thanks to everyone who came along and watch this space for more upcoming workshops, proceeds of which help over 190 animals in care #possumvalleyanimalsanctuary #valleyofhope #volunteersrock #floristry #nativeflowers #wildflowerwreath

13.01.2022 Last week, Merle and her precious babies were moved to a smaller, secured paddock with an alpaca friend. It was a cold and cloudy Saturday night when distant fox calls were heard...the unsettling yelps giving reason for another torch light check of the babies. Despite high chain mesh fencing and floodlights, a bold fox had made its way close to the trio and was just metres from babies Jack and Jill when spotted. The fox was scared off and a crisis was narrowly averted. While ...Jack is fast and robust, baby Jill is much smaller and still at great risk of fox predation. Unfortunately Merle has just one working teat with which to feed both babies and although doting lovingly on both lambs, Jack is much more successful on the suckling front. Jill is offered supplementary bottles in addition to Merles milk to support her through this critical time, although she is often reluctant and balancing the stress of handling and her nutritional needs is certainly a juggling act. For now, we are monitoring her closely to ensure she continues to grow, albeit slowly, while being cared for by Merle. The bond between Merle and her twins is like no other and we will do all we can to keep them safe, healthy and together - she is an amazing mum! #rescuesheep #lambfam #sanctuarylife See more

11.01.2022 We would love to thank everyone who supports the Sanctuary and all we do for the animals, but a reminder for those seeking help: Please don’t arrive without contacting us first. We are limited on time and resource and cannot take every animal at any random time of the day. We are a ‘Sanctuary’ not a ‘Shelter’ and do not have the capacity to help every creature in need. The Sanctuary is also a private residence. Gates tend to be closed for a reason, breaking in or jumping the front gate unannounced is not ideal and Sanctuary dogs are also unimpressed by unexpected arrivals. We can be contacted by email or messenger but a phone number is not provided as we are unable to field calls on weekdays. Thank you for your understanding

10.01.2022 Its yoga! with goats and lambs. To book your tickets visit www.trybooking.com/eventlist/possumvalleyanimalsanctuary

09.01.2022 Good morning from the absolutely adorable Buddy Lamb! #rescuelamb #startingthedayright #littlehero

08.01.2022 Just look at that cheeky grin Little Teddy Lamb is the mischief maker of the 2020 lamb clan... if there’s an adventure to be had, Teddy will always be the group leader While this fun loving fellow is the most independent of the baby flock, at the end of the day, he loves nothing more than to curl up with his Teddy for the night. At this time of the year, when lamb adverts are filling the media, spare a thought for lambs everywhere - all individuals, all with personalities, just waiting for someone to see them as we see Teddy and Buddy and Alby, and all our wool friends. #rescuelamb #sanctuary #seeme

08.01.2022 This week the Valley welcomed Sarge the goat Sarge suffered a serious back injury as a youngster and a portion of his spine is now fused, limiting his mobility. Recognising his need for special care as he ages, his owner kindly organised for Sarge to make his way to the Sanctuary Welcome home big guy - we hope you settle well here #rescuegoat #goatlove

08.01.2022 Possum Valley is now registered with @4changewa Now you can help the animals and the environment by recycling select items at designated drop off points. 08.01.2022 Today our two Sanctuary pups - Trevor and Joy - visited the vet for their annual health check and vaccination at Wattlegrove Vet Hospital. Both canines love car rides and the vet, enjoying all the attention which a trip to clinic brings! Joy gets a special commendation for losing those couple kilos that were outstanding at her last visit #rescuedogs #sanctuarydogs

08.01.2022 That’s right Rudolph, it’s Friday! #rescuegoose #friyay #fridayfeels

07.01.2022 Look at them now! Remember our tiny day old wood ducklings? A few weeks and a tonne of greens later, this tiny trio are about to graduate to their next sized enclosure! Over the years, a number of wood ducks have been released in the Valley near our neighbouring brook and dam, so were looking forward to this adorable family returning to the wild life once grown and flying well! #woodducklings #landforwildlife #wildliferehabilitation

07.01.2022 Please keep little Buddy Lamb in your thoughts these next few days Buddy is doing his absolute best to get well from an unknown issue - he has an awesome vet team from Murdoch Farm Animal Services on his side, but so far we’re still not too sure what’s going on. Tonight he’s home and resting with besties Teddy and Alby and likely back in clinic tomorrow for follow up treatment. 03.01.2022 Tonight we began our burning program in the Valley The weather these past days has been ideal - still, cool and clear - and the fire units have been serviced and filled. Controlled burning is just part of our bushfire ready programme - training of our fire response volunteer team, strategic pruning and clearing, installation of extra Sanctuary water points and fire sprinklers are all on our list of to-dos for the coming weeks in readiness for summer. And crossing our fingers. Thats on our list too - in the hope that its a safe season for everyone #sanctuarylife #bushfireready

03.01.2022 While the spring weather is beautiful, in just eight short weeks we will be back into bushfire season and we need you! This Sunday we are holding our September busy bee and need extra hands to rake and tidy in readiness for summer. If you are able to help us get the Sanctuary bushfire ready, please see https://m.facebook.com/events/718381478727685? Looking forward to seeing you then! #busybee #volunteersrock

03.01.2022 Maas as excited as we are - its Friyay! #rescuesheep #sanctuarylife #friyay

02.01.2022 The Valley’s ovine version of the Lion King - big Paul Paul is the Sanctuary’s largest, and strongest, resident ram. Despite being visually impaired, he is the unofficial boss of the bachelor flock and has the complete respect of all his ram brothers. Even at feed time, Paul is exempt from the usual rammy scuffle and bunting repertoire of his flock, eating peacefully while his mates jostle busily with one another. Paul loves people and happily jogs in for cuddles if his name is called, wagging his tail in response to chin rubs or at the sound of an approaching tour group. Paul is a true gentle giant - and we couldn’t love him more #rescuesheep #sanctuary #gentlegiant

02.01.2022 This Sunday is our last Bushfire Ready Busy Bee for 2020 - we would love to see you there! Our greatest chance of saving the Sanctuary from bushfire is in preparation and there is lots to do! With over 190 animals in care, evacuation is an unlikely option given how quickly fire situations in our area escalate. Pictured is a controlled fire filmed just last month adjacent to the Goatlands. It was midnight and just 15C, but still very hot and such a reminder of how dangerous a summer fire in the Valley may be - hence we need your help! Sunday’s busy bee includes lunch and a Sanctuary tour - and a guaranteed sense of achievement knowing that your efforts can keep the animals safe this summer To register please see https://www.trybooking.com/even/possumvalleyanimalsanctuary #busybee #bushfireready #volunteersrock
