25.01.2022 I love targeted release, usually after a long and/or stressful day. There’s such a huge range of options. My favourites are the Makarlu for variety, lacrosse balls for even firm pressure and golf balls for very specific knots. I actually don’t use a traditional spiky massage ball often- I find it’s hard to get the right pressure points and also it leaves dents in the walls. #postureandcorepilates #movesmarterfeelbetter

24.01.2022 Wow! Cant believe the studio is turning 1 today. What an amazing year its been. Firstly, thank you to my wonderful regulars for making P+C the vibrant, positive place that it is. Watching all of your progress is the best part of my job! The banter is definitely a close second. Thank you to those Ive met on my travels The wonderful organisations and student associations whove believed in my message enough to have me at their schools and events and of course to everyone... who made the effort to attend the workshops and lectures, especially the dental students. Its so great to see the next generation of dental professionals be so proactive about their health. Also, thank you to everyone Ive met via my socials- you guys rock (and for showing me how to use the brightness function of my iPhone ) I am so lucky to have my Happy Place right here. 24.01.2022 Kypholordotic posture- probably the most common postural deviation I see among dental clinicians. It is defined by forward head posturing, hunched shoulders, rounded upper back and anteriorly rotated pelvis. Often the starting point to correcting this type of posture is to release the upper traps, mid back and pecs, strengthen the lower traps, rhomboids and lats. Heres and example of how I work through posture on each individual. 1 Starting Posture: spine is in a flexed position, hips not well situated under spine 2Over Correction: spine now flattened and natural curves lost, neck jamming backward 3Much Better! Natural curves of the spine are maintained- lumbar lordosis established, good centering over sit bones. Feeling lifted but not strained. Ill be answering the questions here on my Socials so keep them coming! Todays question is from @michelletan.ky who is looking for a good piriformis stretch to help combat some recurring Sciatica. This is my favourite piriformis stretch- its simple but can be modified for every level of flexibility. To get more stretch, you can go closer to the wall with your body but have a play around with a position that suits you. (disclaimer as always- stop if you feel sharp pain or neurological symptoms. 17.01.2022 Everyone knows how much I love thoracic extension for dental professionals. (Hello Diamond Press!) Heres another variation called The Dart to try which also incorporates shoulder setting and elongation of the neck. This exercise is exceptional for people who hunch. Key watch points- think down and broad across the shoulders not pinched and narrow, think long and lifted through the spine distributing the extension evenly across all the vertebrae, finally feel a sense of energy as you point the fingertips towards your feet to help elongate the neck. Just remember to look after yourself and not just focus on looking after your future patients. 03.01.2022 Pre-clinical time isn’t just for practicing hand skills! It’s a really good opportunity to practice your ergonomics too. With the following 3 easy steps, we were able to improve this student’s posture. 1. Lower the patient until they are at or slightly below diaphragm level 2. Pushed the dental chair in closer so there is less leaning over to see the oral cavity. 3. Adjusted the overhead light to provide maximum vision and avoid the feeling of needing to crane the neck to s...ee. Currently I alternate between a box on my dining table and my DIY standing desk. Its important to change posture during the day from standing to sitting. The body is designed to move!
