23.01.2022 Update on my recent months My dad lost his battle with illnesses a few weeks ago. My family in Queensland were unable attend the funeral due to Covid restrictions. This has been the hardest thing to deal with not seeing any family during this hard time So with the start of the school holidays, we hooked up the caravan and headed into far western Queensland, just for quite reflection time.... Day 1 Toowoomba to Augathella, had a great night at the local. Day 2 & 3 Augathella to Darr River, early morning photos of the painted water tower absolutely stunning! Traveled through to Blackall and accidentally found a beautiful morning tea stop at Manor House, great food and coffee. Late afternoon made camp on the Darr River in between Longreach and Winton Have found time to do a little stitching. Lots of wildlife about, days have been a tad hot. Today we reached 37, looks like we will finish the day with a storm. Tomorrow we move through to Winton. Away for a couple of weeks, just to find my direction again and then into the sewing studio to start creating again.
21.01.2022 Family connections On Sunday we traveled to Wyandra this is the home town where my husbands family originated from. Sadly like most little country town it’s seen better days. Had lunch at the local, just loved the big old jukebox in the corner of the dining room.... Wyandra is about 100 clicks out of Charleville on the way to Cunnamulla. Stopped at the memorial on the road for the most powerful explosion in Australia transport history. Taken out the railway bridge and the bridge on the road, photos do not express the feelings of devastation. If you are out this way definitely worth checking out. Luckily no person was killed in this incident. You may think the photo of the thistle a little off beat, but hey when you embroidery, you see opportunities everywhere Such a mixed bag of weather conditions, Dara river area it was 40+. The last few days we have had the heater on. Keeping warm with a couple of drinks . Unfortunately holidays are coming to a rapid finish
21.01.2022 Flying into the week This is a Brazilian embroidery scissors case. I always know where my scissors are thanks to this case. The cast on sitich really adds depth to this piece. The bee is stitched with a bullion and fly stitch.
18.01.2022 Hey, its Lee from Posy of Threads in Westbrook. I have been sewing for over 30 years. Recently, I have been busy stitching some more products to sell. This time I have stitched an assortment of Christmas and old Macdonald themed applique tea towels. Each tea towel has either a small heart or star at the other end of the tea towel. Each towel is $12.00 plus P&H. Custom orders welcome. Keep safe.
17.01.2022 Facebook memories Today’s memory was this beautiful piece of stumpwork embroidery. I had set myself a task to have this completed by the time I was 50, just didn’t quite make it.... But now it sits proudly on the wall as a framed masterpiece. I must admit I am just a tad proud of this completed piece.
16.01.2022 Day trip to Barky (as the locals refer to it) Lots of great sights to see Tree of knowledge Massive windmill in the centre of town Just had to take a photo of the blackboard outside of the local hardware.... Visited the local patchwork shop The Silver Thimble, wonderful, friendly service. Great range of beautiful fabrics. Of course I added to my already overflowing cupboard of fabric. Just loved Roses ‘n’ things so much that we went back for lunch. Hoping you are all well and safe Lee
16.01.2022 I see red, I see red, I see red! This is a quilt that I gifted to my twin sister this day, 3 years ago. The day we turn 50! So much fun stitching this easy Red-work quilt.... I added lots of individual touches, such as the turkey stitched bunny’s tail. Lots of buttons from our grandmother’s and mum’s button collection. A couple of blocks where stitched on an American holiday. Brings back great memories when ever I see the quilt. Happy birthday to my twin sister Karen Picton xoxo See more
15.01.2022 A cute little piece for a beautiful girl’s nursery
12.01.2022 The last few days we have stayed at Lara Wetlands a stop in between Barcaldine and Blackall. Absolutely stunning! Photos do not do any justice to the steer beauty of this place. So peaceful. Will be posting a bit more regularly now I am back in areas with internet.... But I must admit so nice to totally go off line. Lee See more
12.01.2022 Longreach Discovered that everything in Winton was booked out, so we made the decision to have a night in Longreach. Sadly also discovered that everything was sold out due to limited numbers due to COVID restrictions. However I did manage to take some photos around town. Definitely will be back hopefully to attend the attractions.... We have moved through to Lara Wetlands very limited internet service, I will post more photos of our Outback adventures soon. Today we are in Barcaldine having a look around. So I will be full of knowledge once I visit the Tree of Knowledge. Hopefully you are all safe and well. Lee
08.01.2022 Charleville Corones Hotel She’s a Grand Old Lady with a past. Haralambos Corones born 1883 better known as Harry. ... Migrated to Australia in 1907 could not speak a word of English, pocket of coins and he bought his 12 year old nephew. 1909-Headed to Charleville, purchased a run down cafe of course this was a roaring success. 1912-Harry became an Australian citizen. 1914-Married Eftyhia Phocas-Effie Together they would have 5 children, there is only 1 child alive today. 1924-Hotel Corones building commenced this was officially opened in 1929. Harry was 1 of the original shareholders of QANTAS. Lots of famous people have stayed at this hotel, The Queen and Prince Phillip, Amy Johnson pioneering English pilot, Bryan Brown just to name a few. The photo at appears to be the back of the building, is actually the area wherelady visitors would climb a ladder to entertain men folk.Talk about outstanding service. The current owners are gradually bringing the old lady back to her former glory. But honestly if you find yourself in Charleville definitely consider doing the tour. Highly recommended. Meals are reasonably priced and are delicious. The last photo is of the large dresser in the dining room, this was one of the original pieces left. Do yourself a favour! Visit Hotel Corones you won’t be disappointed
06.01.2022 Last day in Charleville Visited the Royal Flying Doctors Service. Absolutely amazing some of the stories that these Health Workers attend, definitely a very special person to be able to do this profession. The big yellow belly fish is in the centre of town.... Reminded me of my days of growing up in Mungindi, when I would go fishing with dad A few more photos from the Hotel Corones, we went back and had a beer at the longest bar in the Southern Hemisphere, was really nice and cold. Stunning lead light windows are everywhere in this pub. Half of the front windows are lead light and the other half are clear, this was so people walking past could see what was happening inside. I suppose we all have rubber necks occasionally. Sure Harry Corones would have picked up business this way. One very smart man! How beautiful is the old photo of the five Corones children. We went to the local RSL club for lunch, walked in and the ANZAC quilt caught my eye. Absolutely stunning, the dimensional poppy flowers added to the over all effort. By the way lunch was delicious. Home is getting closer.
06.01.2022 Travel continues Traveled from Lara Wetlands through to Charleville. Stopped at Blackall morning tea at The Manor House. Looked around town, obvious to see that Blackall had once been a busy Outback hub. Jackie Howe statue, most number of sheep shorn with blade shears. ... Lots of old pubs as you can see from the way rum was sold. Only in Australia would you find a sign to remove your shoes if muddy. Unfortunately the Woolscour was closed, perhaps next trip. Stopped off at Tambo for lunch, just had to visit Tambo teddies. We have safety reached Charleville. Hopefully you are all well Lee See more
