25.01.2022 This couldnt feel more true at this point. But this could never of happened unless I didnt lose a job I never had in 2018. Yes, you read correctly. I feel that was the pivotal moment for me looking back now. Remembering that you can never connect the dots in that moment. . It was an awful moment. Id left a great job (it was time to move on, but never the less, a great job). I left an amazing team (you guys know who you are!) and Id given a full 4 weeks ...notice as I was in a managerial role. . It was the Friday before I was due to start my new role on the Monday. I was feeling a bit funny. I hadnt heard from the new place and I was just thinking to myself that its strange, but oh they must just be busy. . 5:30pm my phone rang. It was the HR department. She proceeded to tell me that they had some issues with me starting on the Monday. I remember not really understanding what she was saying. My instant reaction was that something must of happened to the person I was reporting to. . Unfortunately, we have had a down-turn in business and we are not able to put you on. . Im sorry what?! I was shocked. I cried. I remember feeling like I had nothing. Id lost my confidence. I dont even know why because Id literally done nothing wrong. . I could have cried for longer. But the Monday rolled around and I called or emailed what felt like every agency in Sydney. I had lined up interviews for the following day and by Wednesday had a freelance gig which ended up lasting for 9 months, then I went on to bigger and better things, meeting a sea of incredible all people along the way. . I learnt through this moment that to really thrive you must be uncomfortable. There will always be challenges and bumps along your journey but no one can ever take away your skills, knowledge and experience, so believe in yourself and go on and figure it out! See more

23.01.2022 Week 1 'out on my own' done Huge 13hr days last week I've been working madly on some new exciting branding projects which I can hopefully share soon. I actually haven't shared new work in soooo long (really need to get my act together and plan to work on my business not in it). . It feels a little cringey sharing pictures of myself but letting people know you're a real person builds a sense of trust with your audience. So here I am.. hey I'm a real per...son! . 21.01.2022 Once upon a time, one of the only things we could do was play snake on our phones. Now, an amateur photographer (cough, I mean just a regular gal with an iphone) can shoot pictures like this one. What a time to be alive. . My partner bought these lilies for me the other day. I was feeling all the feels of isolation. I waited till they started to wilt before I photographed them. Something incredible happens when flowers start to turn, dont you agree? I dont know what it is b...ut I love how the dark crimson pollen centres start to spill and stain the petals and how the dark veins start to show. . Ive included the edited and unedited pictures so you can see the differences. I love making small corrections to photographs. My main goal is to always just bring the image back to a closer depiction of how my eyes see the colours, not how dark the camera corrects it. It's probably one of the most common questions a designer gets asked to do on the daily, and I'd love to hear from some designers about this one too. . Yes, us designers do have special powers, but it's always good to really let us know what you like and don't like about what is being presented so we can ensure we're on the same page.... . If you don't let us know your thoughts, it's likely we might change something that you wanted to keep or similarly keep going around in circles (and no one wants that). . Help your designer help you. Heres where we landed with their imagery guideline. Imagery is so crucial for any brand. Fuel Collectives brand imagery needed to promote a sense of authenticity, togetherness and inclusion. . We show here happy faces and situations that felt real and not overly staged. They needed to ...feel genuine, yet still have a heightened sense of awe and aspiration. We opted to steer away from too many shots where eyes are looking to camera. 12.01.2022 One that went to the logo Gods. This logo mark for Powerhouse was one of the first designs presented. I really loved the initial direction and the palette but after discussions with the client we felt we could strengthen it further so a second option was presented and that was the one chosen. . 10.01.2022 I've always been a maker at heart. Someone with a can-do attitude haha! It's actually how I started this little business. Someone asked me to make something for them, and I said 'I can!' That's my whole philosophy through life really. I very rarely say that I can't do something. I'm a firm believer every skill can be learnt if you have the right attitude. I've spent the last few years working out what I enjoy doing most in terms of design. . It sounds funny ...to say, but I just really enjoy making people happy through design. Whether it's making a small piece of creative, a new brochure, a website or a brand that will ultimately change someones life. I love all of it! I love serving people that have the same goals, dreams and philosophy as me. . As I count down the last few days till I leave corporate life to start my new chapter, I'm left thinking about all the things I've done to this point. I'm a firm believer that it's about the process (always) and not about the end result. . I looked back this morning through my IG feed and found this little quote that I illustrated many moons ago. As Jobs said, you can never connect the dots forward, you can only connect them backwards and I wonder if I was actively manifesting what I wanted all along. Planting the seed of a goal I wanted from day 1 (& working my little butt off most nights) to run my own show, playing by my own rules. . I'd be lying if I didn't say I was nervous about the future, I mean I resigned (on my own terms) from my job in the middle of a pandemic am I crazy? But if you can't back yourself, then who can you count on in life and time will keep on ticking. . 06.01.2022 Super dooper sneaky peek at some custom lettering for a new brand I've been working on. Very excited about this one. Cannot say or share any more. . I'm in final stages of logo development now. My client loved it, and I do too! This font has been fully customised. I might share a few things we did to it so you can see the process in the coming weeks. . During this final stage I'm tweaking the space between the letters, just to make sure the...y are 100% right. In design language, the space between letters is called kerning and we are now in the final stage that's known as finished art. Each letter is carefully spaced sometimes exact, using the tools within Adobe Illustrator or other times just with our eyes. Often, no matter how exact a program can make it, it won't ever replace the sense that something doesn't feel quite right. . I'm currently tweaking the B on this little guy as he looks like he's broken away from his little friend L. The A also looks like she's floating off slowly into the distance. Ok, so now letters are taking on human expression... Yes, us designers do have special powers, but its always good to really let us know what you like and dont like about what is being presented so we can ensure were on the same page.... .
