25.01.2022 Have we mentioned how much we love our "field reporter" Serena the swamp wallaby?

24.01.2022 Today is National Threatened Species Day commemorated across the country to raise awareness of plants and animals at risk of extinction. Australia is home to more than 500,000 animal and plant species, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. Over the last 200 years, more than 100 animal and plant species have become extinct. In NSW alone there are close to 1000 animal and plant species at risk of extinction.... Our founder Alexandra Seddon says the time has come to value our native animals and not follow the path that led to the extinction of the thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger), which was the bounty on the animals to protect sheep farming by white settlers Our Grey-headed Flying Foxes are in danger from the same behaviour, being shot by orchardists after weve taken their traditional food trees. 1080 and Round Up is banned in other countries, whereas in Australia we are still doing things like air-dropping baits, killing Quolls and many other species Every day is threatened species day at Potoroo Palace! Visit us soon to learn about our resident threatened species: Grey-headed Flying-foxes Gang Gang Cockatoos Long-nosed Potoroos Bush Stone Curlews Squirrel Gliders Dingos Koalas Parma Wallaby Brushtailed Rock Wallabies Superb Parrots Spotted tail Quoll Woma Python

24.01.2022 Chuffy is celebrating the re-opening of Potoroo Palace tomorrow with a bit of a jiggle and vocal shenanegans... All our critters are getting their beauty sleep and look forward to seeing everyone this weekend, starting tomorrow! Do visit soon... weve missed you! Right Chuff??

23.01.2022 Chuffy the white-winged chough loves getting fan mail! Here he is listening to the newest letter he received from special friends Auralia and Jeremy Want to send Chuff your own letter? Just mail it to the below address and we will make sure he gets it! Chuff c/o Potoroo Palace... 2372 Princes Highway Yellow Pinch, NSW, 2548 See more

21.01.2022 Did you know? Blue Wren Cafe and Gift shop now open for business Thursday to Sunday, from 9am until 2pm! Serving delicious Ragino Coffee and homemade treats! We also have a great selection of resource books available for sale!

21.01.2022 While we love all our volunteers, we want to send out a special thank you to this amazing group of French backpackers who have been helping us out for the last few weeks They helped with feeding animals, updating enclosures, building, landscape maintenance, and so much more. We are so grateful for their time, effort, skills, and enthusiasm! Merci beaucoup pour tout votre travail! ... Interested in volunteering with us too? Send us an email or give us a ring with your availability!

19.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful koala Sapphire . She became unwell in October and tests carried out by Bega Veterinary Service indicated that her condition required euthanising . We have since been awaiting the results of extensive blood testing to confirm that she was suffering from koala retrovirus, a form of koala leukaemia . Hope, her beautiful baby is doing well without Mum but has been moved off exhibit to give her a chance to ad...just in private. She will be back in the Park for the holidays. In honour of Sapphire, Blue Wren cafe will donate 10% of all profits in the month of December to The Australian Koala foundation. **We understand this is distressing news and we carry much sadness. Please keep comments respectful.

18.01.2022 Sapphire and Hope enjoy lashings and lashings of fresh leaves everyday. This Sunday koala lovers can join in on a day of action, make some noise, lobby a pollie and support these Australian marsupials - and one way is to visit Potoroo Palace and learn more about these fascinating creatures and their habitat. You are not permitted to cuddle koalas in NSW, but at our sanctuary you can get pretty close, as our office worker did today. ... I felt so close to them, could hear them chewing and see all their crazy features like their 2 thumbs, and long claws... they are amazing... and I couldnt ever cuddle such a wild thing anyway!

18.01.2022 Thanks for visiting us all at the Palace, lovely ladies from the tourism office! Were looking forward to seeing everyone really soon... we are organising all our social distancing devices, and our online booking system is going up tomorrow. We encourage everyone to book online to help us keep visitors and furry friends safe

17.01.2022 One of the best things about visiting the Palace is getting up close and personal with our animals residents. These gentle, loving moments show the beautiful connection we can all have regardless of species Many thanks to Monique Whitby for sharing this gorgeous photo with us!

15.01.2022 Our cheeky Cockatoos in the maze pen having a ball with their new watering hole! Did you know, birds need regular bathing to maintain good feather health? Setting up water sources in your yard is not only a great way to view your native wildlife, but helps them out too in this heat! You may notice at Potoroo, we have sticks in all of our water troughs? ... We do this to ensure any little friends who may fall in, have a way of getting out safely! See more

12.01.2022 Monday September 7th is Threatened Species Day. Saving threatened species is important for a healthy and diverse environment. Once plants and animals become extinct they are gone forever. Our founder Alexandra Seddon says at Potoroo Palace we have many animals classified as Threatened Species, but in fact all native wildlife are threatened by humans, through our expansion and multiplication, taking their food and places to live. When you visit Potoroo Palace you are direc...tly contributing to the care of our animals, including of course our endangered species. You can also visit the official website where there is a load of info, videos, and suggestions of other things you can do https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au//saving-our-species-new Tomorrow we will mark Threatened Species Day and post some pictures and videos of our amazing critters, with loads of information on the impact of humans but today we invite you visit us and get to know some of these gorgeous animals close up. Being aware of how our actions can increase the risk of species loss and curbing these activities will support conservation efforts to prevent species becoming extinct in the wild.

12.01.2022 We are open! Serving up fabulous coffee, ethical food and a wonderful nature experience Book online or just head on down... see you soon!

12.01.2022 Guppy the long-nosed potoroo is ready for his big debut! He has recently left mom's pouch and struck out to find his own way at the Palace. Did you know... This small species belongs to an ancient branch in the evolution of the kangaroo family. Nose length depends on where potoroos live. Typically the farther south they are found, the longer their noses.... Female potoroos use their long semi-prehensile tails to carry the materials they need to construct their nests. Potoroos can climb and jump incredibly high when they feel threatened or need to escape danger. See more

11.01.2022 Environmental Day 5th of June is coming up and Potoroo Palace have been invited to the Bega Valley Shire Library to talk about caring for and rehabilitate native wildlife. Please come along and meet Anna Lindstrand from Potoroo and Cowsnest Wildlife Sanctuary, who will tell you about her journey to become a wildlife carer and how she became totally devoted to conservation work. Members of all the local wildlife groups, WIRES, LAOKO and WRSC will be represented on the day wit...h information about their work. If anyone feel like joining a wildlife group this is a good opportunity. Potoroo Palace is part of a bigger organisation. And a bigger picture. Cowsnest Wildlife Sanctuary and Community Farm is a 830acres lush property that borders to South East Forest National Park and belongs to the same public fund and is a part of the same charity as Potoroo Palace. The majority of the land on Cowsnest is under voluntary conservation agreement. There is a 57acre fenced off soft release sanctuary that was built 1989 by donations from the community. Since then native animals have been safely and without any extra stress rehabilitated back to the wild when they are ready. The sanctuary is run by a group of wonderful people that dedicates their time to heal the wild little souls. Cowsnest have always worked with many wildlife groups and have discovered over the 30+ years that working together is very successful!
