23.01.2022 I will be putting a few bonsai pots in the wood kiln at Hillside Pottery. Hopefully firing next weekend

23.01.2022 I am in the Nov 2020 edition of the JAC. Pat Kennedy and Boris Lomov as well.

23.01.2022 Three years ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to do a residency in a Japanese pottery. I learnt my tableware production techniques from 12th generation potter: Sensei Kato Hiroshige. He is a bit of a rock star as well

23.01.2022 Finally found some time to work on some long overdue commision orders. #commision #treebark #bark #texture #bonsaipot #bonsai #bonsaipottery #pottery #handmade #ceramics #picton #australianceramics #australianpottery

22.01.2022 Feeling great to be behind the wheel after almost half a year. Life has just some how always been in the way of pottery. My throwing skills are a bit rusty but not too shabby. I love the hypnotic noise my wooden Leach style kick wheel makes. Making some samples for a collab project.

21.01.2022 The precious cargo from the wood firing is all pack and going home

21.01.2022 Textured rectangular pot. Now at its new home with @fortytwo_mice

21.01.2022 Measuring specific gravity (SG) but not glaze related. This is for calculating the alcohol content in home brew beer. Knowing the starting SG and final SG after brewing, the alcohol content of the beer can be calculated. This brew is 5.6% One day I might make some ceramic growlers and fermentation kegs

21.01.2022 Sample of custom vase collaboration with @porter_hudson. Woodfired in the bourry box kiln at Hillside Pottery @p.schmid43_ceramics

20.01.2022 Formulating my own translucent porcelain. Early results looking promising. #transluscent #porcelain #cone6 #australianceramics

20.01.2022 One happy customer has put a chuncky, 45 year old Port Jackson fig in one of my pots. I am loving how the rounded chunkiness of the tree is matches the pot. It brings me immense satisfaction seeing how my pots get put to use.

20.01.2022 Harvest at Potterben Studio

19.01.2022 Ill have a few pots in this exhibition and will be there all day on the Saturday. Please drop in and say Hi

19.01.2022 Something quite special is happening tomorrow. A couple of these beauties are packed in the wood kiln and will be fired tomorrow, weather permitting. They have been in the kiln for 6 months as we havent been able to fire because of drought, strong winds, high temperatures, bushfires and corona virus. This pots is not made by me. Comment and let me know if you know the maker.

18.01.2022 Putting to use one of my cups from the wood firing at Hillside Pottery last weekend. A drippy blue celadon on porcelain.

18.01.2022 Resin... to plaster... to clay. Working remotely with @dreamsofceladon and proof of concept is successful.

18.01.2022 Feeding the wood kiln at Hillside Pottery #Repost @brucepryor_ceramix Had a fabulous firing on Peter Schmids Bourry Box Wood Kiln yesterday. Along with myself , Pete & Ben Ho, we managed to wrangle sufficient Cyprus & Radiata Pine into the firebox ( dont you love the sound of the wood crackling as it ignites!), to have the kiln at temp & clammed up by 2.00am. The shared firings are always pleasant experiences as most of us work in isolation for the better part of ...our Studio practice. Its also a great learning experience as each & every kiln has its own quirks & challenges. Pete has built a Cracker of a kiln at his Hillside Studio, so it was a lot of fun. Thanks for the invite Pete.:) #woodkiln #bourrybox #firebox #radiatapine #cypruspine #woodfiring #reductionatmosphere #reduction #carbontrap #shinoglaze #wildclays #sharedfirings @p.schmid43_ceramics @potterbenstudio @brucepryor_ceramix @davidcollinspottery_2017 #woodfiringisfun See more

17.01.2022 I realised I don't have any bonsai trees on my freed. This afternoon I potted up these 3 Japanese box shrubs which are starting their bonsai training. They are from a ~20 year old hedge and the root spread on them are quite impressive. Has anyone else used these fabric pots before? They are supposed to air prune the root preventing them from coiling around the pot and let more oxygen into the soil. Let me know if you these pots have worked for you.

16.01.2022 A scotch egg and wine for lunch. Served in a wood fired shino bowl.

15.01.2022 Freeform Reduction fired stoneware

15.01.2022 I will be participating in this Group Exhibition of Australian Bonsai Potters. Thank you Boris for all the effort organising

14.01.2022 I am trying to up my photography game with a New IKEA roller blind as the background. This is an old wood fired pot from a few years ago. Made using porcelain with a blue celadon glaze. The titanium content in Australian porcelain bodies pushes the blue celadon to an aqua/green

14.01.2022 A sneak peak of one of my pots that is going to be on show at National Bonsai Week in Canberra. A Wood fired rectangular pot. Ill be at the Aboretum March 23rd and the morning of the 24th. #bonsai #bonsaipots #bonsaipottery #australianceramics #picton #bonsaipot #woodfiredpots #woodfiredpottery #cone10 @ PotterBen Studio

13.01.2022 Textured circular pot 230 x 230 X 70 Reduction fired stoneware

13.01.2022 Spring is here, the vege patch has been turned, tomato plants put in and strung up

13.01.2022 Porcelain rice bowl with a drippy blue celadon glaze. Made a couple years ago @hillsidepottery.

12.01.2022 4 years ago my pottery Sensei and I visited Terahata Satomis pottery studio. I was impressed with the quality of the pots this father and daughter duo make and surprised by the quantity they are able produce. He said his main export market is the USA. Also all the large pots are not made with plaster molds as it would be too difficult to flip something that size over

10.01.2022 A sneak peak of the texutures of the pots I am showing at the Earth and Fire Bonsai Potters Exhibition.

08.01.2022 Getting pull rings out of the kiln to check if glazes have melted sufficiently #Repost @brucepryor_ceramix A few pics from the Wood Firing last night in Peter Schmids Bourry Box kiln @ his Hillside Pottery near Mittagong. Was a great firing. We had heaps of fun & Ben cooked up a fab Paella! Thanks Ben!... #woodkilns #woodfiring #cone11 #australianwoodfirers #bourryboxkiln #bourrybox #reductionfiring #reduction @p.schmid43_ceramics @potterbenstudio @brucepryor_ceramix @davidcollinspottery_2017 See more

07.01.2022 Spring has arrived and flowering plums (ume) are in blossom A collaboration pot made by @kasenpottery at PotterBenStudio. Fired in the wood kiln at Hillside Pottery @p.schmid43_ceramics. #woodfiredpots #woodfiredpottery #australianceramics #ume #plumblossom

07.01.2022 I have been admiring the strong test tile game of @glazyorg and @coneinfinity. They have inspired me to try up my test tile game too.

06.01.2022 Textured hexagon pot from the wood firing. I fired the kiln a bit bit differently this time. The firing was 6 hours faster than normal. I kept the firebox quite full of wood which kept the back pressure up. The reduction was stronger then normal which has made the clay body quite dark. However there was less fly ash effect. Will stir up the firebox more next time @ PotterBen Studio

05.01.2022 Shelving, ware boards and bats are no longer a limiting factor at my studio. These were all scored from a retiring production potter. A bit of a sand and a lick of paint and the shelving has come up looking brand new. The high pressure hose also worked wonders getting clay off the bats and boards. A lot of high quality work has been made using this furnature. I am honoured to continue the story and make my wares on them.

03.01.2022 My piccolo cups sitting on top of my new toy. I snapped the machine up for a good price as it was making bad coffee. It ended up being lime scale inside the boiler and the pressure set too high. After a thorough internal descaling and adjusting of brew pressure, it is now making top notch coffee

02.01.2022 Work in progress. The texture on this on is pretty extreme and could easily become the centre of attention instead of complementing the tree. Comment and let me what type of tree would that would not get overpowered by this pot. Allocasuarina torulosa or old black pine?

01.01.2022 Wood kiln is lit rising steadily. What a glorious day to be firings the wood kiln
