25.01.2022 The firing seemed to go well. It took a little longer than usual, (20 hours instead of 18 hours)to get to temperature but we got there. We are won’t really know if hat the results are like until we unbrick the door opening (wicket) . #woodfiring #woodfiredkiln #woodfiredmug #ceramicart #dunalley #tasmania

24.01.2022 The recent firing produced some pleasing pots. Pleasing to me anyway. These days I am making to please myself. That sounds incredibly selfish but if I can’t do as I please now when can I? This photo shows one of the more dramatic pots from inside the ash pit. #ashpit #australianwoodfiring #woodfiredkiln #ceramicart #ceramicreview #ashglaze

19.01.2022 The wreck of the Zephyr occasionally emerges from the sand on Marion Bay. She left Hobart on 11 July 1852 bound for Melbourne with a general cargo and 14 passengers. She encountered a big easterly storm and went ashore with the loss of eight lives.

18.01.2022 After four weeks of throwing trimming and glazing I have nearly got enough pots for a firing. Swipe across to meet some new members of the family. Slightly different shapes but same blood lines. Medium store jars for a special order. Gone back to putting the fillet at the base of the handle attachment for a stronger look and function. . . @mmbedloewrites ... #functionalpottery #tasmanianpottery #stonewarepottery #stonewareceramics #woodfiredceramics See more

03.01.2022 We had a very welcome visitor to our gallery today who bought a couple of mugs and one of Tammy’s platters. She said she is replacing the items in her home made by industrial processes with items made by hand. The love of the maker, the joy of the making and the natural materials combine in handmade items to embody more than just utility. . . #handmadewithlove #handmade #handmadeinaustralia

02.01.2022 Master Builders Tasmania was established 130 years ago in 1891. At that time there was quite a lot of building activity in Tasmania, despite an economic downturn. In those days materials were delivered to site by horse and cart. The footings were dug by hand, concrete was not yet in general use, glass and roofing slate were scarce. The left side of the second photo shows a simple 1890’s cottage in Copping. The right side is a later extension. Builders often had a single page ...plan to work from. The plan showed room layout and elevations, cladding materials were marked on the elevations. Most buildings constructed in Tasmania in the 1890’s are still in use today, they have stood the test of time, a credit to our forebears. Five years earlier, in 1886, Carl Benz produced the world’s first automobile. The car in the photo was made by the Morgan Car Company established in 1909. I am proud to have been a member of MBT since 1991 #mbt130south #morgancars #victorianhouse #victorianarchitecture @masterbuilderstas
