18.01.2022 "Strength training is often forgotten about. Although approximately half of Australian adults get 150 minutes of physical activity each week, only 15% meet the National Strength Training Guidelines. Strength training not only helps to make you stronger and more mobile, it can also increase bone density which reduces your risk of osteoporosis. Doing regular resistance training can also help with weight management. To maintain health, it is recommended that those aged 18 ...- 64 do strength training exercises at least twice each week. Sadly, only half of Australian universities are teaching our future doctors about these guidelines. If you'd like to learn how to start strength training safely, talk to your GP about a referral to an appropriately qualified exercise professional. 17.01.2022 This month on our blog.... Sundi has written about Ankle stability Anyone who is physically active should be able to appreciate the importance of ankle stability. Whether your running, changing direction quickly, jumping or lunging you require strength and control around the ankle to ensure correct posture. If this is lacking then you are at a greater risk of injury. Furthermore conditions like shin splints and plantar fasciitis become more common. Follow this link for treatment and strengthening exercises. https://pottsvillephysio.com.au/ankle-stability/

17.01.2022 "An international study led by the University of Otago has revealed how exercise can reduce the chance of diabetes leading on to heart disease. The research has identified that exercise triggers the release of small sequences of genetic code in the heart called microRNA, which increase protein production to improve heart structure and function. Researchers found that specific microRNA are adversely altered in the early stages of diabetes. These altered microRNA can reliably predict the inevitable onset of heart disease. The research teams believes this is a pivotal new development as microRNA can serve as a reliable early biomarker for heart disease in diabetes." #exerciseright #ESSA

04.01.2022 Great tips and information about the role of Exercise Physiologists - I know our Sammy has had a positive impact on many peoples lives - Including me! "Let’s face it, going to see any health professional can be a daunting activity if it’s your first visit. You are basically going to see someone to explain how your health is failing you. It can take a lot of courage to set up the appointment, let alone go into your personal details and routines. However, working with an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) can be a truly rewarding process and they can make a hugely positive impact to your life." #ESSA https://exerciseright.com.au/seeing-an-aep-for-first-time/
