19.01.2022 Eucalyptus Tree Sitting in the shade of a Eucalyptus tree, With the leaves and branches hanging over me. If I take the time, and look up I will see,... A different world living in a Eucalyptus tree. Awakening with the dawn, a crisp and brand new day, I can hear them coming, from many miles away, Seeking out the nectar, in the flower which is sweet, Honeyeaters, Wattlebirds, and the Varied Lorikeet. The sun is rising fast, and darkness turns to light, But there's another reason, for flowers oh so bright, Going 'bout their business, spreading pollen making honey, Are Butterfly's with feral, and the little Native Bee. Dusk begins to fall, and the sky is turning red, Birds, Bees and Butterfly's are heading off to bed, If juicy tips need pruning, there's others waiting there, Scarabs and Christmas Beetles, line up for their share. We think the world is sleeping, with darkness of the night, But there still is movement, beneath the pale moonlight, Owls scout the outer leaves, seeking out a Sugar Glider, From the safety of the bark, crawl out the Huntsman Spider. Sitting in the shade of the Eucalyptus tree, With the leaves and branches, hanging over me, If I take the time, and look up I will see, A different world living in a Eucalyptus tree. 13.01.2022 Pour La Ferme supplied the location for Murray Goulburn Australia's leading milk company for their agronomists to research varieties of annual and Italian ryegrass to see which variety produced the maximum amount of dry matter production for every mm of rainfall. This research is an important aspect towards sustaining dairy production in northern Victoria for producing milk from grass helping sustainable Australia's image of lean green and clean agriculture. More information of this research in coming months...
04.01.2022 The tree we long to see grow and blossom at Pour La Ferme.
03.01.2022 On a sustainable farm if you are going to grow a summer crop then sorghum or maize should be the crop of choice to convert valuable irrigation water into maximum production. The sorghum plant is known as sorghum bicolor(L) Moench and is a member of the Poaceae family. It is an annual C4 tropical grass that is capable of growing beyond physiological maturity of the grain. The sorghum plant has a vigorous fibrous root system that can extract moisture to a depth of 1.8 mtrs. At Pour La Ferme a sorghum crop sown after christmas 2014 grew 100 tonne hay from 8 hectares using 40 mgaltrs water, thats a whopping 2.5 tonne dry matter per mgaltr water.
02.01.2022 Broad leaf weeds need to be eliminated from pastures, crops and verges, at Pour La Ferme a recycled hardwood timber pallet has been used on the hay forks on the tractor to mount a small boom sprayer with 12 volt pump connected to the tractor battery to quickly spray klms of weeds reducing hand spraying.
