25.01.2022 Things are changing very quickly! Read what this week's Top Tip Tuesday was about: In light of current affairs, today we are all about STAYING ACTIVE Although experienced in the medical industry, I'm not at all knowledgeable enough to suggest remedies or "hacks" to combat the virus. HOWEVER - this virus does NOT give you the excuse to slack off. Here are your top tips to staying active through these restricting times: 1. NEAT This refers to "Non Exercise Activity Thermog...enesis". This is your body heating up and the energy used doing "every day" things such as walking to and from the fridge, sitting up and standing down etc. Keep this up by filling your drink bottle half way so you have to get up more often, walking to the deli instead of driving and so on 2. HOME WORKOUT Like I said before - STOP MAKING EXCUSES! Just because you are working from home doesn't mean you can't get to a gym. If you can't get to a gym, that doesn't mean your can't train at home. Find a way, if you are stuck, PHA has at home coaching available 3. STANDING DESK If you are working from home, find a way to raise your desktop or laptop occasionally. Just by standing whilst working your NEAT level rises, subconsciously your body tries to balance and shift weight significantly more than you would sitting - REMEMBER, THE ONLY PERSON LETTING YOU DOWN IS YOURSELF. 21.01.2022 HIP DYSFUNCTIONS SQUATS - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Often sold as "tight hip flexors", more common than you think - especially in those who stay seated all day (aka. Office Workers). This is characterised in a squat by a harsh drop in your chest or the inability to stay upright, knees caving in and not being able to go over little toe and zero depth, all as a result of tight rectus femoris and sartorius (quads), weak hamstrings and weak glutes You can see h...ow TERRIBLE bearing weight would be in this condition In order to bear weight and still lift more than just bodyweight, we need to create more depth in our squat. We can do this by elevating or heels using a plate. 20.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW that most people who lose a substantial amount of weight (body fat), will put it right back on in just half the time it took to get it off? 02.01.2022 Reverse diet . I shared a post from @coachmarkcarroll the other day about 500 cal increase between two comp preps. This is why reverse dieting is so important Currently around 15% body fat, only on 1500 calories from being in a deficit to lose body fat. If i needed to start prep in 3 months time, by that point I won't have many calories left to decrease to achieve desired body fat %. When dieting your metabolism adapts and changes so the TDEE youre supposed to be is sub...stantially bigger than what it actually is . By reverse dieting now for 12 weeks I can bring my "maintenance calories" back up to my true TDEE without substantial fat gain, so when I diet down further for a prep I can eat more than I could before to achieve desired body fat % .
