24.01.2022 Have you ever felt like you should join a gym but lacked the motivation? Or perhaps you don’t feel like you could squeeze into tight Lycra to compete with the young fit Gym Bunnies? Well I did too, but last year, wanting to give my hubby some support as he needed to try and lose weight, I decided to give it a go. Powerhouse Gym was much better than I expected. I was shown around the equipment and assessed as to what I was wanting to achieve. I recently bought a Scooter/Motor...bike and realised that my arms and legs were not as strong as I would like to counteract the weight of the vehicle. I work on the machines that have weights and notice a difference in muscle strength and tone ( even the bingo wings are getting tighter, whats not to like!) It’s a nice relaxed workout and everyone is too busy working on their own programs to bother about what I am doing or wearing. There are many fitness classes too so you can pick what suits you best if you don’t want to use the fitness machines. My personal love is the Latin Dance class on a Wednesday night, a combination or dancing, great music and a good workout with plenty of fun. 21.01.2022 If our HEALTH is so IMPORTANT, why don't we make FITNESS a PRIORITY? There's an idea called the FOUR BURNERS THEORY, where you imagine your life as a four-burner stove. Each burner represents FRIENDS, FAMILY, HEALTH and WORK.... Its been said that if you want to be successful, you have to turn off at least one of your burners. And if you want to be super successful, you need to turn off at least two. Last year my WORK (and BUSINESS) have been turned up to a point you'd experience third degree burn if you got close!. My friends, family and health burners are simmering if not completely turned off. My HEALTH burner used to run HOT. I took on Pole Fitness (and won 2 competitions) and workout in my gym 5 days a week whilst on strict intermittent 5:2 fasting. My body was on peak performance for the sport I chose. Then I bought Powerhouse (made my dream of being an Entrepreneur a reality), COVID hits (as all) and my (day) WORK became a little bit more demanding. So my HEALTH, FRIENDS and FAMILY burners where turned down a lot more than F would have wanted. This year I have committed to get my HEALTH (and Fitness) and FAMILY burners turned up a bit high. I have committed to compete (and win) my first body building competition in Sept at the tender age of 50 and also booked my annual leaves to spend quality time with my partner and kids. So it boils down to your current life priorities. Remember there is a SEASON for EVERYTHING. If life does not allow you yet to FOCUS on getting the body or fitness you desire, just keep your HEALTH (both physical and mental) burner simmering and not completely turned off. 08.01.2022 Queensland Seniors Week Aug 15-23 Exercising over 65 is not just about your heart. You also need to work on your strength, balance and coordination. If you're over 65 and exercising regularly, give yourself a pat on the back.... Being active is one of the best ways to boost your odds of ageing well, by keeping you mentally healthy and free of disease and disability. And it helps even if you start late in life. But many older exercisers do only one activity and risk missing out on some important health benefits. That's a key finding of a recent study, published in the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport, which looks at the leisure time physical activity of more than 22,000 older Australians. The study, which focused specifically on those over 65, shows around two thirds of older people are exercising, with most of them favouring aerobic activity usually walking. Just over 45 per cent reported walking, with more than half of these people reporting walking as their sole activity. Only 2.6 per cent of people in the study reported a combination of balance, strength and aerobic (heart and lung fitness) activities. So what are older Australians doing?
