23.01.2022 VALE Martin Benstead It is with much sadness and regret that we record the sudden passing of long serving Club Member Martin Benstead. Martin joined the Club in the early seventies after arriving from England, where he played for the HENDON RFC. Martin was a towering second row forward and played in various grades in his early days. He toured New Zealand with the Club in 1973.... One of Martin’s achievements was as a member of Power House RUFC's Seven’s Team in 1975, who were the winners of the Canberra Seven’s which included opposition Teams from NSW, Queensland, ACT and South Australia. Martin’s playing career was shortened by a very serious leg injury, suffered in a game at Olympic Park. After he retired from playing, Martin served on the board of the Rugby Victoria. Until the present, Martin continued to support the Club in many ways and was a regular attendee at Club lunches. On behalf of Power House Rugby Union Club, we extend our sincere sympathies to his wife Pam and family. We will greatly miss his presence around the Club. Vale Martin For details please contact Barry Dixon. [email protected] Mob 0425711870

15.01.2022 This time last year the Power House Women won the Lindroth Cup... they then set a goal to continue to improve and hit preseason with great energy and intensity. Technically they are undefeated in 2020 but not under the circumstances we had hoped. Can’t wait to see them hit the field again as they attempt () to go back to back. #WhoseHouse #Premiers #LindrothCup

09.01.2022 Vale Peter Selby It is with deep sadness and regret that I inform you that our good friend Peter Selby, lost his battle with cancer and passed away in the early hours of this morning. He was rushed to hospital on Saturday night before peacefully slipping away.... Bryan Furlong spoke with him Saturday morning and stated that we would all catch up once restrictions are lifted. Peter replied, hopefully soon. Bryan had the pleasure of playing 1st XV Rugby and 1st XI Cricket with Peter and his brothers at Dannevirke High School, then they had a wonderful association at Power House RUFC. The highlights of Peter’s career were to play in the premiership winning Power House 1st XV sides of 1973 and 1974 and to represent Victoria against the 1974 touring New Zealand All Blacks. Following his retirement Peter was awarded Life Membership of Power House Rugby Club (PHRUFC), the first New Zealander to achieve this honour. Rugby vs Leukaemia was conceived by Peter following his 2017 diagnosis of AML, Acute Myloid Leukaemia. His sole aim was to increase awareness especially in the Polynesian community to the importance of donating blood and becoming part of the world wide bone marrow donor program. Your support of this program may save live. https://rugbyvsleukemia.com/the-challenge/ Our condolences go to his partner Jan O’Brien and her Family, Peter’s sons Darren and Blair. If you would like to send cards, please send to Jan O’Brien Unit 7075 101 Lindfield Road Helensvale Queensland 4212

03.01.2022 ALBERT PARK RESERVE - PARKING INFRINGEMENT REFUND Power House RUFC posts this message for all concerned within the Club, as some of you may have received parking infringement notices within Albert Park Reserve. Your fine may be withdrawn and payment refunded due to infringements being issued contrary to law.... Please see below information the Club recently received regarding Parking Infringement Refunds for appealed infringements issued between 2006 and 13th March 2019 within Albert Park Reserve. Please email [email protected] for more details. *** From Parks Victoria *** In February 2020 the Victorian Ombudsman released a report titled Investigation into three councils’ outsourcing of parking fine internal reviews. The ombudsman found there was administration of the infringements Act 2006 being performed contrary to law. The findings related to the outsourcing of reviews conducted on appeals to parking infringements. Upon hearing this, Parks Victoria reviewed how appeals are processed and identified deficiencies. Parks Victoria commenced processing all appeals internally on 13 March 2019. The Ombudsman report recommended that appealed infringements issued from 2006 (commencement of the Act) up until changes to internal review process (13 March 2019 for Parks Victoria) be refunded. Parks Victoria will initiate a refund process to all known parties who appealed an infringement prior to 13 March 2019, had their appeal rejected and subsequently paid the infringement. Should you require any further information on this matter please do not hesitate to email: [email protected] *** END ***
