18.01.2022 **You Can't Fool Google** #longpost For one, Google employs people around the world as Search Quality Evaluators. The guide for them is 166 pages long! (I have one). So real people evaluate and report back to Google which search results really are relevant. Brian Dean found out that Google sorts and ranks pages based on User Intent. e.g.... Informational Navigational Commercial Transactional Dean says that the user clearly wants a checklist for SEO, but he put 'case study' at the front; that means it is not clearly just a checklist. Google's ranking for it is affected. Think about this with your own case studies -- are you optimising for 'case study' -- or do you want to make your IT support service (in Redcliffe) the star? The latter, right? *Back-linking* Many times we only think about links in terms of who can link to us. But links work both ways! You can help industry pundits find you by linking out to their blog and then contacting them. This takes time but 'if you don't ask...' Remember to add some small value to their lives while you do. So, when you go about making your website better, have a think about: ~ User Intent (what they went there for) ~ Correct keywords for user intent ~ Locale - make it obvious! ~ Links out to others who offer specific information ~ Hiring a copywriter (had to slip that one in, didn't I!) 02.01.2022 My belief is that most business people are spending too long on TACTICS and not long enough on MESSAGE and STRATEGY. You can throw thousands at FB and put quotes on Instagram ad infinitum, but if your target market is not seeing what they need and desire, then it's just wasted. See my NOTE.
