06.02.2022 Time to hydrate! Every part of your body needs water. So how much water do you need?... About 2 litres a day. However, there are also factors to consider such as exercise, weather, activity, and even external substances such as caffeine and diuretic drugs. So time to drink up!

30.01.2022 As the season has changed, vitamin D levels in our body tend to drop, so it is vital for you to get enough vitamin D. The best way to get it is through sun exp...osure for 10 minutes daily. Get a good feel of the sun over your whole body. Don't forget to check in with your skin doctor if this is OK for your skin type. While the sun is the best source of vitamin D, there are also food sources that could help boost your vitamin D level up. Ready to commit yourself in getting that daily dose of vitamin D?

23.01.2022 HYDRATE FOR LIFE AND VITALITY Every part of the body relies on water to be vital and alive. Adequate hydration Makes you feel and look younger, by increasing... energy, decreasing stress, normalizing blood pressure, nourishing the skin and improving mental and athletic performance. Dehydration does the opposite and can also increase the risk of bowel and urinary tract cancers, kidney stones and heart disorders. Everything is better with water! Energy, stress, sleep, memory, immunity HOW MUCH DO WE NEED? Around 2 litres a day. But there are factors that can increase this, that we need to be aware of - exercise, heat and dry weather are the main factors but also diuretics ( substances that increase urination) which are either produced in the body or through external substances like alcohol, caffeine and diuretic drugs. It is important to know that you cannot solely rely on your thirst response as an indication of needing water as this can be overridden through a busy lifestyle and or stress. TOXIC WATER Chlorine The chemicals put it into our water to make it safe to drink ironically can be toxic. Primarily this is chlorine which is used to sterilize water and is necessary, but it also increases oxidative damage to the body. Fluoride The debate over the safety and ethics of fluoridating water is still going strong. In many European countries it is banned. Though studies have shown that there is no evidence that fluoride treated water creates any health problems, there are concerns fluoride does have a negative impact on health especially in children, where it can lead to mental developmental issues. Toxins can be simply fixed by installing to use a good water filter and when you remove these toxins you will tend to drink more, either because of taste or an intuition in the body. So, remember everything is better with water! Energy, stress, sleep, memory, immunity Source article by Laurence Axtens ATMS volume 23 #3 Spring 2017

20.01.2022 Saffron for depression The most expensive spice in the world, saffron, has shown to be effective for treating depression. So, adding some saffron to your cooking may help lift moods, manage stress and decrease anxiety. Though it is expensive it also goes a long way, as it is so concentrated, so much so that too much in your cooking can make it taste medicinal.... Recent studies have shown supplemental saffron to have anti-depressant effects on par with many pharmaceutical anti-depressants, but with very few side effects. It also works very fast, in some cases it only took one week to alleviate mild to moderate depression, whereas most pharmaceutical medicines take 4-6 weeks to take effect. Effective Dosages are not that high, at 30mg daily makes it attainable through culinary amounts (about 20 threads) but please keep in mind that strengths in culinary herbs can vary greatly and so should not be relied upon to treat depression, but for maintaining general mental health and improving general well-being eating saffron as a part of your diet is a tasty way to promote health and happiness. 13.01.2022 Fibre is far, far, far, far! more powerful than you ever thought! Increasing your fibre content in your diet is possibly one of the most powerful preventatives to the 4th most common cause of death worldwide bowel cancer (colorectal cancer). Soft/soluble vegetable fibre - found in most vegetables and in chia and flax seeds (among other foods) have multi layered effects in fighting cancer. Insoluble fibre or hard fibre though healthy does not benefit the gut in the same way ...soluble fibre does. Insoluble fibre is found mostly in grains. Soft/Soluble Vegetable Fibre - Decreases the proliferation of carcinogenic bacteria, these bacteria promote inflammation (one of the main drivers behind bowel tumour growth) it does this by increasing anti-microbial response in the lining of the gut. - Stimulates the repairing of the epithelium gut lining. - Reduces pro-inflammatory chemicals that stimulate tumour growth. - Increases cancer suppressing chemicals produced by the body. - Reduces DNA damage - Increases cell death (methylation) necessary to reduce replication of older cells. - Stimulates immune function proliferation and activation of immune cells. - Reduces transit time of toxins (carcinogens) All these factors are not only important for prevention of bowel tumour growth but also in the repair and support of the bowel during and after cancer therapy. This increases the effectiveness of treatment, the comfort of the patient and decreases re-occurrence of tumours. As the bowel health effects every part of your body, bowel health is essential for the full and vital function of all your cells and organs. Taken from the ATMS article- can a high fibre diet be effective in repairing cancer therapy induced intestinal lining damage, microbial balance and colorectal cancer risk?
