20.01.2022 The word 'Ghee' is Sanskrit and translates to 'clarified butter'. Ghee, the golden elixir is probably one of the most sacred, spiritual, and physical health benefiting substance which can be used internally and externally. If it is mixed with other substances the potency and strength of the herb and action in the body will increase. It is also known that active ingredients dissolved in fat can overcome the brain-blood barrier easier. Therefore Ghee is an ideal carrier for me...dicinal substances that are supposed to get straight into the central nervous system. The normal butter known to us and mostly consumed in the west does not have the same properties as Ghee explained in the Ayurvedic textbooks. In general, Ghee has the following benefits: - increases digestion - rejuvenating - benefits the strength of the eyes - nourishes the tissues (seven dhatus) - increases immunity (ojas) - lubricates the connective tissue - gives luster and complexion - increases lifespan - supports intelligence and strengthens the brain - improves the nervous system Our Ghee is made of 'True Organic', certified, unsalted butter, and a safe option if you are lactose intolerant. During the process, all of the milk solids are completely removed which makes the product lactose-free. If you would like to purchase our Ghee contact me directly or order via www.feelgoodfoodboxes.com.au

20.01.2022 Curcuma longa (Zingiberaceae) Haridra - Turmeric, finds its daily use in Indian households while cooking, for religious rituals, in facial masks as a hair remover or antiseptic. Turmeric is also known as Haridra - literally means 'yellow', the strong yellow colour signifies its use as a blood cleanser which is helpful in reducing swollen or enlarged liver. Studies found its use in Alzheimer's disease, hemorrhaging of the brain and it aids in the management of inflammatory conditions. A herb that is ligally beneficial for everyone even without diagnosed health conditions. Tumeric helps to balance all three Doshas, due to its heating energy (Virya) it alleviates Vata and Kapha and the bitter taste (Rasa) balances Pitta. There is no side effect found in normal dosage, but caution should be taken if there is high Vata or Pitta in the body present. To high consumption can cause dryness of the mouth or throat. 20.01.2022 During the last couple of weeks you would have been noticing we are slowly moving from late winter into spring. A new season which allows us to cleanse and detox our body from any excessive body fats. Due to the warmer temperature some of the fats are starting slowly to liquiefy and circulate in blood and plasma as Ama. Your body wants to become more active and you will feel an urge for more outside activity and excercise. This is the time to include Kapha reducing activities... in order to get rid of the Ama in your body. Start refreshed with the change of natures elements. If you would like to include a personalised spring cleanse, ayurvedic fasting or you would like to learn about the different hathayoga practices, please get in touch with me. Happy Spring time ~ Undine

19.01.2022 Pomegranate (Dadima) in all different forms is a perfect plant to prevent bacterial and viral infections as studies show. The plant originated in the middle east and spread its roots all over India. But you can find the fruit-bearing shrub in your local nurseries around the world as well. It does well as a pot plant on your balcony but prefers long hot summers. While the shrub is very drought resistant, it does grow better with a good water supply. And while we are almost out... of Pomegranate season in Australia this red delicious nurturing fruit is available in different forms all year round. The dried roasted seeds help to balance an excessive appetite and can be used for cooking purposes. The rind has anti parasitical properties and helps to bind loose bowls. Despite the sour taste of Pomegranate Juice, it helps with its balancing and healing properties to alleviates all three Doshas (only taken in excess it can aggravate Vata). Next to Amla the Pomegranate belongs in Ayurveda to those fruits with a high level of Vitamin C which of course supports your immunity. It helps to alleviate acidic digestion and the digestive function of your body, the cooling effect also reduces an inflamed stomach or intestines. The redness shows us that the fruit has an affinity for blood tissue (rakta dhatu) and plasma (rasa dhatu), therefore it helps to strengthen and support the function of the heart and can be helpful in anemia. Pomegranate is an aphrodisiac and a perfect supplement for both men (prostate problems) and women (to balance estrogen during menopause). Enjoy a daily glass of Pomegranate Juice, add a pinch of salt to kindle thirst or use 1 - 3 g roasted seeds as an appetizer or with your cooking.

15.01.2022 Winter is all about warming up the system and nurture your belly and taste buds. I wanna share one of my favorite breakfast porridges with you ~ enjoy, Undine

15.01.2022 Tulasi - The Queen of Herbs which is high in sattva and popular for both it's medicinal and spiritual properties. The plant is a perfect herb to introduce to your daily herbal teas as is said to prevent disease, promote general health, wellbeing and longevity and assist in dealing with the stresses of daily life. In Ayurveda, the use of four different kinds of Basil are common: Rama Tulsi (green leave), Krishna Tulsi (purple leave), Vana Tulsi (wild or forest tulsi) and Kap...oor Tulsi (dark holy basil). Tulsi received its popularity through the excellent action to work as an insect repellent and to prevent disease of the respiratory system as well as a home remedy for fever. Tulsi specifically increases prana and the vital life force in the body. The Rasa (taste) of Tulsi is pungent and bitter, it's nature clears the dampness and toxic ama that can cause chest infections. The prabhava (special affinity) of the herb is used in fever regardless of their cause and it's actions help to balance Vata and Kapha. Besides Tulsi is recommended as a treatment for a range of conditions, it works as an anti-inflammatory, purifies the blood, anthelmintic, Rasayana for Pranavaha Shrota (supporting and building of respiratory tract). It is a remedy for cough, colds, asthma, bronchitis, rhinitis or allergies, edema, indigestion, loss of appetite, flatulence, itchy skin and to support the heart. The fresh juice can be externally applied to wounds, swelling and peptic ulcers. Tulsi on its own has been found to be an effective male contraceptive agent, therefore we recommend enjoying the herb in combination with others: - Tulsi & Brahmi or Gotu Kola to support the mind - Tulsi & Ginger, Fennel or Cardamom in malabsorption and flatulence - Tulsi & honey in cough, breathlessness or fever - Tulsi & Pippali in lung congestion with mucous or allergies - Leaves pounded with black pepper to a paste to apply to dermatophytes areas Tulsi is a perfect herb to support you during the cold and flu season, it is also credited with giving luster to the complexion, sweetness to the voice and promotes beauty, intelligence, energy and works as a carminative.

06.01.2022 Aloo Matar This Punjabi dish from the Indian subcontinent is easy to make and spices up your kitchen table. A creamy tomato dish made out of potatoes and peas. I sourced my fresh organic vegetables from #feelgoodfoodboxes. If you live outside the Sunshine Coast, I'm sure you will be able to get the ingredients from your local store as well. Enjoy ~ Undine Ingredients... - 1 tbsp Ghee - or other oil - 1/2 tsp cumin - a pinch of Asafoetida (Hing) - optional - 1 large yellow onion, diced - 4 garlic cloves, minced - 1 tbsp minced ginger - 1 bay leave - 2 tbsp chopped coriander - 1 tsp garam masala - 1/2 tsp turmeric powder - 1/4 - 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper, to taste - if you prefer it less hot, use less cayenne - 1/2 tsp salt - 3 tomatoes chopped - alternatively, half a can-dized tomatoes - 4 dutch cream potatoes, peeled and cut into 2cm pieces - 1 cup green peas, fresh or frozen - 2 tbsp cream (optional) Instructions 1. Heat the Ghee in a large pot over medium heat and add cumin seeds, fry for a couple of seconds. Add onions and sauté until soft, about 5 minutes than add a pinch of Asafoetida to it. Add the bay leave, garlic, and ginger and fry everything for about 1 minute. 2. Add the garam masala, turmeric, cayenne, and salt. Stir to coat the mixture, then add the tomatoes. Sauté until the tomatoes have softened and starting to break down for about 5 minutes. 3. Blend the sauce with a stick blender or food processor. 4. Add one cup of water, the potatoes, peas and 1 Tbsp Coriander. 5. Bring everything to boil, then turn the heat down, cover with a lid, and let the mixture simmer until the potatoes are tender, usually 10-15 minutes. 6. Optional you can add 2 Tbsp cream to the mixture. Garnish with remaining coriander and serve with Basmati Rice, Roti, Naan or fresh bread. You can transform this dish into a vegan version as well, by replacing the Ghee with a Vegetable Oil and instead of cream, coconut cream (be careful not to use too much coconut cream, since it makes the dish heavy and harder to digest)
