23.01.2022 Good luck to both Lucindale and Kingston at Interschool today.

23.01.2022 Volunteering is about giving back but I always find I get more out of it. Helping out at BlazeAid yesterday in the Adelaide Hills was a fantastic experience. I ...met a lot of great people and had a few really good laughs along the way. BlazeAid started after the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires. Since then thousands of BlazeAid volunteers have helped out around the country to rebuild fences after major natural disasters including flood and fire. With camps currently set up across bushfire affected regions of SA, NSW and Vic, BlazeAid are doing amazing work not only for fences but for community morale. BlazeAid will be soon setting up a camp in Kingston to help those affected by the Keilira fire. If you want to volunteer, with either fencing or hospitality for the volunteers contact the Kingston District Council who are helping coordinate the camp. See more

18.01.2022 DONATIONS FOR BUSHFIRE AFFECTED SOUTH AUSTRALIANS The SA CFS has had an amazing response for donations for those affected by the bushfires. It has been overwhel...ming! The SA CFS is so grateful for all your heart warming offers. We are respectfully declining offers for GOODS due to logistical operations being utilised for firefighting as a priority. To handle the large amount of goods offered is just not possible as we just do not have the resources to accept goods anymore. Thank you all, it is very much appreciated. 13.01.2022 Emotional day in Keilira as I toured the fire ground with State Minister Tim Whetstone - Member for Chaffey and Member for McKillop Nick McBride. Loud and clear... we heard the need to improve telecommunications and native vegetation management, including roadside vegetation. Thank you to Kingston District Council for showing us around and facilitating the community meeting tonight. The strength of community in situations like this never ceases to amaze. Huge congratulations to the volunteers involved in containing a fire that could have been so much worse. See more

07.01.2022 ARE YOU LOOKING FOR WORK IN AGRICULTURE? The shearing and wool handling industry is facing a labour shortage following the closure of borders to... foreign travellers amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Shearing Contractors Association of Australia secretary Jason Letchford said by spring labour will be a problem. "Currently labour is sufficient as flock numbers are back this autumn due to the drought, but sheep numbers are building up and in spring 30 per cent of the shearers workforce comes from New Zealand. "They come for up to three months and its always been a good interchange," Mr Letchford said. Mr Letchford said the industry was working to have shearing classified as an essential service by the Department of Agriculture. "We would be prepared to shutdown to stop the spread of the virus, but it could only be very short term," he said. "We have a lot of animals lambing in autumn and animals need to be off shears before lambing. "Lamb and mutton also need to be off shears for a period of time before they are processed." Mr Letchford said they were also working on having social distancing guidelines established for the industry. "People will have to forget working for high tallies as shearing wont be as quick and the 1.5 metre distancing rules will be applied, which means only stands 1, 3 and 5 might be in use," he said. "The sheep will get shorn and people will get paid. "We still have our jobs, people have been very good about it and they realise we are in a very fortunate position compared to the rest of the world." See more

03.01.2022 What amazing day.

02.01.2022 ALMOST A SHEARING RECORD Ethan Harder was just 10 sheep short of a world record today in Cordering, shearing 488 merino ewes in eight hours. The current r...ecord of 497 merinos was set by New Zealand-born shearer Lou Brown in April last year. Not a bad effort from Ethan, whos only 20 years old!

01.01.2022 Its in the genes Janes Mum has her stencil too. Sylvia was one of very few women in SA to have it. How the industry has changed.
