25.01.2022 Have you bought your tickets to this night of nights? The 'Where There's a Will' gala promises to be an incredible evening get your tickets at www.trybooking.com/ktox (18+ event)

25.01.2022 The last three weeks have been full of ups and downs. A great week leading into Good Friday followed by a terrible week with another infection knocking Will around. The good news is this week has seen him bounce back and it was great to see him get out of the hospital for lunch this week and the highlight being the afternoon spent at home today watching the footy and enjoying dinner with the family. A few pics from the last few weeks.

25.01.2022 When 2 hot water bottles, 2 doonas, a blanket and moving the bed infront of the heater still doesn't warm your son up! Will's finally stopped complaining so best I try and grab a couple of hours sleep before I'll be up trying to cool him down! Be grateful for your ability to regulate your own body temperature - its one of those things we never stop to think about.

25.01.2022 Yesterday was January 16 and tomorrow is January 18 and today is January 17 - a year since Will’s accident. You tell yourself it’s just another day, it’s just another date - but it catches in your throat, it makes your mind wander, it makes you reflect. You reflect on the choices you’ve made and the path that you’ve taken and the progression that you’ve made or really, the progression that Will’s made. To be honest, if I really wanted to, I could start writing and never st...Continue reading

24.01.2022 If you're feeling peckish tomorrow, swing by 232 Bluff Rd Sandringham for a drive by sausage sizzle for Will!

24.01.2022 FLIP THE BIRD PARTY MOVED TO 2017. A huge thanks to everyone who has purchased tickets for the music/dance party on December 15. Unfortunately Following on from Will's recent surgery on his hands he has some rehab commitments that week that are going to make it difficult for him to attend the party. As a result we are going to move the date to early 2017 as he really wants to be there.... To all those that have tickets don't worry your ticket can be used on the new date and if you can't attend we'll und you the full amount. As soon as we arrange the new date (likely late Jan / Feb) we will let everyone know.

23.01.2022 Special day for Will and Finn in the MMM commentary box watching the Dees beat the Hawks at the G. Huge thanks to all in the MMM footy team, especially Danny Frawley for making it happen.

22.01.2022 Wow! So many incredible people have stepped up and offered us support in our search for an interpreter next week. It makes me think that the team following Will should head into Australian politics imagine the future of our country with this group of people making stuff happen! We haven’t had a chance to reply to all offers of help - as we’ve been busily organising Dr Zhu’s visit seems as we had such short notice. We are just so grateful that we have a community that all...ows us to call on them and they reply so readily - certainly makes our problems seem far more achievable. Gee I wish you could all as easily whip up a solution for 14 year old confrontational attitude. The conundrum of a teenage boy who doesn’t want people in his face yet needs people in his face for every basic function - is starting to wear everyone down. Im sure there’s a saying about dying a slow painful death yeah, we get it!! Still need any cabinet makers that can spare even a few hours (they no longer need to be Mandarin speaking!). I look forward to reporting on the week that lays ahead. #hereformuz #rippingcommunity

20.01.2022 Gus and his mates at Auskick this morning. Would love to see photos of all the orange socks out there today! (Apologies to all those that missed out on buying socks... Clearly a 4,000 pair sock order was not enough... Will definitely order more for the next Orange Sock Day). We're blown away by the overwhelming support. #hereformuz... #orangesockday See more

19.01.2022 In one weekend Will’s old footy team made up of his best mates who he’s played with since he was 8 years old played in the Grand Final and lost I took Gus to the skateboard park for the first time where I used to take Will for hours every weekend and Tess went skiing with a group of friends instead of her family. 3 heart breaking events which each made me get a lump in my throat. I’m pretty sick of trying to feel better by going to my breath only to feel like someone’s stra...Continue reading

19.01.2022 A beautiful friend texted me today and said: remember 3 steps forward and 2 steps back is still forwards. Such appropriate words when Will has slipped 2 steps back this weekend. A simple Winter sore throat that swept through the house this week hit Will on Friday and by Saturday was a full blown, disastorous, infection. For 48 hours we have warmed him up, cooled him down, tried to clear his chest when he can’t do it himself and have worried for him all over agin. My fri...Continue reading

19.01.2022 He's through! Was long, but everything went to plan. No surprises. Surgeons happy. Only kid in recovery that asks for his best mate, Finn, over his mum! ... He's pulled up really well with his humour well and truely in tact. The support we've got over the last 24 hours from family, friends and people we're yet to meet has blown us away! The surgeons and nurses who looked after Will, treated him with respect and brought their A game to the table were absolute rock stars today. Let the fun of recovery begin Feeling beyond grateful. #hereformuz

18.01.2022 Hellllllooooooo.. anyone out there? As the saying goes it’s been far too long. It’s a tricky one updating a page about your son who was a 13 year old turning 14 at the time of his accident to now a 16 year old turning 17 who is all over social media and pretty protective of his privacy (and rightly so). Every post I started, I stopped, in fear that it was crossing the line with Will. 3 years on (nearly to the day), you may be well over the Will thing and moved on no...Continue reading

17.01.2022 After a bad week fighting a chest infection it was great to see Will bounce back and get out of the house today to spend some time hanging out with friends. Now finishing off a great day with some Playstation online and his favourite meal, a Margherita pizza from Barbalus.

17.01.2022 FAR OUT!! The community’s generosity towards our family and Will’s cause continues to knock me sideways. So let’s start with the Community Day. I, like most of you, heard through various sources that our Community Day raised an impressive total of $40,000. ...Continue reading

16.01.2022 Is it messages getting from his brain to his toes or is it the acupuncture that’s producing the movement Well there in lies the most important lesson Will’s injury is teaching us it’s all in your choice of focus! Choose to focus on the supposed fact that there is no recovery from spinal cord injury and you will only see the acupuncture. Choose to focus on HOPE and the possible return of function below the injury site and you’ll only see the toes moving.... You see we choose to focus on the fact that any movement is good movement. we choose to focus on how amazing Will felt seeing his toes move for the first time in 5 months. we choose to focus on how blessed we are that the community are behind us and is supporting us so that we have the resources to add acupuncture into Will’s traditional spinal cord injury rehab program. we choose to focus on how grateful we are that an old, dear friend, Alex Page-Robinson, who is one of the best acupuncturists going around has cleared her diary twice a week to spend hours at our house with Will and hours of her own time researching leading techniques being successfully used overseas. we choose to focus on how great Will feels and how happy he is after his sessions with Al - toes moving or not. We don’t choose to place our focus on these things because we are naive, or delusional or in denial we choose this focus because it makes us feel hopeful and joyful and grateful who wouldn’t want to feel like that each day? Re-read this post, think about this post this post says so much where we place our focus is our own CHOICE how we FEEL about things can be our own CHOICE! (Gee - could think of a million other ways than spinal cord injury that I’d rather learn these lessons!)

15.01.2022 Movie details for next Friday:

13.01.2022 It's been nearly 3 months since Will's accident and the good news is he getting closer to coming home. After having a difficult time last week he has improved significantly and is feeling much better so we are hoping he can stay that way, avoid any more infections or complications and have a chance to make up for the time he's lost whilst feeling sick. A major part of Will coming home is going to be finding the right nursing care to help look after him and this is where you g...uys can possibly help. We are looking to put together a small team of nurses to work with Will during the day. Hours are flexible and the nursing care he needs isn't too complicated and the Royal Children's Hospital nursing team will provide any specific training required. He's a great kid and we think this role will be very rewarding as his nurses will be involved in all aspects of his rehab from trips to SCI rehab centres, rehab at home and getting Will back to school. The most important aspect is going to be finding the right personality fit, nurses who can relate to Will and quickly build a positive and engaging relationship with him. If you know any nurses you think might be a good fit for the role and are looking for some flexible work then please check out the ad below and pass it on so they apply via SEEK. Thanks. http://www.seek.com.au/job/30742514

12.01.2022 Well done, Bayside! Thank you to everyone who came down on Saturday to support the Murray family. Together, we raised at least $40,000 for them! Read all about it here:

12.01.2022 I went to pick up Meg from Dancing yesterday afternoon and parent after parent sat down next to me and said I’m just exhausted I need a break. I’ve got so much work on. None of these parents were whingeing or were indulging in self-pity they were genuinely, flat out exhausted and overwhelmed with the to do list that sat, like a road block, between them and that one festive dayChristmas! As I arrived home I saw Nick running between Will, the kids, Will, the computer...Continue reading

12.01.2022 What are you doing next Friday, 13 May 2016, at 8:30pm? Enjoy a night out at the movies while raising money for Will Murray. Your $30 ticket gets you champagne on arrival plus entry into Whiskey Tango Foxtrot starring Tina Fey. It's on at Palace Cinema Dendy, Church St Brighton. We hope to see you there.

12.01.2022 From all of us to all of you who turned up yesterday in support of Will and our family thank you. An incredible show of support from so many wonderful people. A special mention to Katie Flockart and her amazing team of volunteers who made it all happen, we can't thank you all enough. Looking forward to doing it again next year so Will can see for himself just how many people are in his corner. Nick & Emma Xx

11.01.2022 For the first time since leaving the Royal Children's Hospital Will is back in hospital... This time at the Austin. Tomorrow Will undergoes nerve transplant surgery to assist in getting some level of function back in his hands and triceps. This is a relatively new advancement in spinal cord injury recovery and fortunately the best surgeon in the world happens to be here in Melbourne. There are some big challenges involved with this procedure for Will... Namely... Just being... back in hospital... Wearing double slings for a couple of weeks... Losing the use of his arms temporarily - so no Playstation or phone... And worst of all - no real signs of improvement for 6 to 12 months. This surgery will not give Will his hands and arms back but if he gets a good result we are hoping he can get a pincer grip in one hand and fingers opening in both hands and stronger triceps. We'll take that! This surgery is 7 hours long and incredibly intricate. I could be just flat out delusional, but I believe over the past 8 months Will can feel the support and positive energy from this community. I can feel Will's anxiousness tonight and I can certainly feel my own... So please send us the best you've got from where ever you are! #hereformuz

11.01.2022 Em's been quite busy lately so here's a post from Will's sister Tess: In the past week there’s been over 50cm of fresh snow. It’s this exact time of year when the Murray 6 would usually be packing our gear and heading up to Falls Creek for our annual ski trip. In the past week there’s been non stop streaming of every sport possible with the Olympics running 24/7, from home to school it seemed to be on every where I turned. ...Continue reading

10.01.2022 Thank you to the Herald Sun for this video and story about our 'unstoppable' Will. It is wonderful to see him out and about, though still so sobering to hear Em speak of the reality of what lies ahead.

06.01.2022 Well - how about that As Will turns 15 tomorrow, on Australia Day Professor, Alan Mackay-Sim, will be awarded Australian of the Year in recognition for his am...azing breakthrough work in stem cell treatment for spinal cord injury! 15 is so young and Will has a long life in front of him, so it gives us enormous hope to know that there are incredible people, right here in our own country, working tirelessly to ease the physical, emotional and financial burden of such a devastating injury. We couldn’t think of a better birthday present for Will than to tuck away this hope and to continue to work hard and keep his muscles strong and ready for the amazing breakthroughs that brilliant people like Prof Mackay-Sim are committing themselves to. Will is like any other 15 year old who taunts their siblings, grunts at their parents and lives for time with his mates but the past 12 months have also shown us that he has a level of resilience, patience, mental toughness and acceptance that extends way beyond his years. Happy Birthday Will and congratulations Professor Mackay-Sim 2 amazing people taking on Spinal Cord Injury! #hereformuz #marshallandmuz

06.01.2022 2016 has been a massive year for Will and we’ve had numerous events for parents but this one is just for Will and all his friends (and their friends). The kids may need a hand from parents with tickets so please get behind this event and show Will he’s still got everyone’s support. Some of Australia’s best DJ’s have donated their time for the afternoon at one of Melbourne’s best venues, and some top people in the event industry have stepped up to organise this - so its goi...ng to be amazing! Parents are welcome to stay on at the venue and have a drink with Nick and I. Please share with anyone you know who has teenagers and let’s make this huge for Will. 100% of ticket sales go to Will’s trust.

06.01.2022 Will working hard in the gym. 4hrs yesterday and 5 today. Still had enough left in the tank for a night out with his mates! Great to have Eric back from the US sharing his knowledge with Richard and James who have been doing an awesome job driving Will's physical rehab.

06.01.2022 Huge, heartfelt thanks to the team at Highly Tuned Athletes! Their run for Will on Sunday was a great success the total amount raised just fell short of $10,000, and Highly Tuned Athletes have made their own donation to bring it up to the $10,000 mark. Thanks also to all of you who ran or walked on Sunday. It's wonderful to see so much community support for Will. Here are some photos from the day (including Will's gorgeous grandma and her mates ... such troopers!):

05.01.2022 Are you stuck for ideas for your office Kris Kringle? We've got the perfect gift for you a goodwill gift certificate where every cent you donate will go straight into helping make Will's life as comfortable as can be. You can make your donation and download your gift certificate below. Thanks, and ho, ho, ho.

05.01.2022 I’ve gone to write this post several times but each time it doesn’t really come out right. No one wants to be a grinch at Christmas time right? But, to be honest, I think we’re all just holding our breath here and hoping like crazy that the 25th December comes and goes, and leaves us all emotionally in tact. I can’t lie the lead up hasn’t given us any reason to think that this will be the case - with a sudden onset kidney infection, the first Melbourne summer heatwave and... a broken playstation remote I’m starting to think the universe is having one last dig at us for the year. Going to bed tonight psychologically limping and injured from 2 hours of Broken Playstation Remote Warfare with Will, I had pretty much decided that this Merry Christmas post could quite easily be held off and written as a Happy New Year message instead. But lying in bed trying to do that whole, think of three things to be grateful for and all your troubles will disappear thing I started to roll through the year and really started to think about how far we had come as a family and remember what helped us get to where we’ve got. It’s a year like no other when you run it in fast forward. Our story, thus far, has ups and downs and highs and lows, improvements and set backs but one thing that has never faltered is this incredible - ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE - sense of community that has surrounded our whole family and carried us and kept us steady throughout the bumps, twists and turns. From fundraisers, to dollar a day donations, to letters in the posts, to prayer groups across the other side of the world We have felt your love! We have heard your love! We have seen your love! When our family needed love more than any other time in our lives you all stepped up and stepped forward. Many of you have never met Will, most of you have never been in our home but ALL of you have played your part in our story. I’m not sure what science says but I choose to believe that every ounce of love and support sent our way, from kids, to teenagers, to adults has played a part in Will’s ongoing success and for that I am very, very grateful! Wishing you and your families and friends a safe, happy, fun and loving Christmas - from Will and our entire crazy clan. Keep those high energy, good vibes coming!! #hereformuz

04.01.2022 Driving in the car last week our youngest asked me if there were different numbers of days in each year. 03.01.2022 Last night we saw another wonderful show of support for Will and our family when Will's East Sandy team played the first game of 2016 in a special season opener against Cheltenham FC. That an opposition club would come up with such a concept, host the game and then donate all money raised highlights the incredible support there is for Will out there. 02.01.2022 Dr Zhu has been and gone! Dr Zhu was truely amazing! A 70 year old acupuncturist who is in demand all around the world, who doesn’t need the work or the money, but who came all the way to Melbourne, because recovery from Spinal Cord Injury and Stroke is his thing, it is what he believes in and it is his purpose and a teenage boy and family needed him!... No magic wands, no snake oil or expensive machines just a bucket load of discipline and bloody hard work (with a heap of acupuncture needles in Will’s head and feet thrown in). He took the best of the rehab work that Will had adopted from our incredible American trainer and added his own Eastern philosophies and techniques Western and Eastern approaches working in harmony - wish we saw more of it. I spent the first 48 hours of his visit dragging my knuckles and in tears, questioning whether Will had it in him to do what he was being asked. What 14 year old has that much focus and discipline well as it turns out - 7 days, post Zhu’s visit my 14 year old does!! Will has surprised us again with his work ethic, courage and determination. A massive thanks to Ling, a gorgeous local mum who stepped in to translate for us and has now been dragged into Will’s crazy journey whether she wanted it or not. Someone close to Will asked him the other day what Dr Zhu had done to him because he looked so positive and happy and upright in his posture. Will’s response He gave me hope! Enough said!

02.01.2022 A few things to report. Will’s home from hospital and is recovering well from his hand surgery. It will still be a good 6 weeks before he is back to where he was - but things improve everyday. It’ll take around 6 months before he can expect to see the benefits of the nerve transfer operation start to kick in which will hopefully result in hand opening on the left and hand opening and pinch on the right. Anyone with Sony shares can breath easy knowing he’s back on the Play...Continue reading

02.01.2022 Listen closely to Will saying this is the first lift he has ever done. What the video didn't catch was Will saying to himself, with great satisfaction; "that's the best first thing I've ever done". ...enough said!... #hereformuz

01.01.2022 Will's little sister, Meg, and her basketball team kicking off Buxton Orange Sock day. Have fun all the orange sock wearers this weekend... Don't forget to post photos for Will. #hereformuz #orangesockday

01.01.2022 Silence speaks when words can’t or so the saying goes. The lack of updates about Will’s progress is not because there has been nothing to say - but because there is too much, changing too often to keep on top of it ourselves, let alone to keep Will’s amazing support team and community up to speed. But it’s Mothers Day - and today I have woken up to all four children under the one roof. Its been a hell of a couple of weeks, but we have woken up joyful and hopeful (a bit snot...Continue reading

01.01.2022 Along my travels I picked up this great, little, unpublished book titled How to be Your Own Psychologist - it’s effectively a transcript of a Monk answering questions from Australian academics and qualified psychologists about mental health. The Monk so eloquently highlights how little Westerners question their own minds and if they learnt to question their thoughts and perspectives then they would find more peace. The Monk believed (I’m simplifying his teachings greatly...Continue reading
