16.01.2022 From Ken (7/5/15): Praise God that the ship has arrived in Tanna but it's on the far side of another ship so we are having to unload across the second ship. We could only tpget the timber off yesterday. Today I have to organise the rest. With one day left, I don't think we'll get the roof on - we'll see. It's been pouring as another Cyclone Jasmine has been coming our way. There's a severe weather warning today. We worked in pouring rain yesterday and had to do road works on the hill...miraculously the truck got up with the timber. Need lots of miracles today, 80 bags of rice to come up plus all the other building materials. Fascias are going up today and God-willing, the roof. Depends on rain (safety) and whether or not we can get the iron off the ship early. Pray for all that please!
13.01.2022 From Noelene Fox: Tanna Update 16/5/15 : Don Baigrie (Dad) and Mum are now back in Vila. Andrew Fox, Dougles Kaut & Estella Rapsary and Cliffben T Benua are still in Tanna. Eric and Don compiled a list of jobs to be done after the main work team left. There was a great response to this as everyone (including local men, women and children) all contributed to ensuring the jobs got completed. Most tools have been packed, along with last minute tidying up. Andrew is preaching tomorrow and due to return to Vila on Monday with Estella.Photos are of the finished church building along with maintenance work completed in the mission house.
12.01.2022 The devastating aftermath of Cyclone Pam has continued as lack of rain in the South Pacific due to El Nino has badly affected crop production leaving our island friends in further need of both food and clean water. Through your generous giving we have been able to continue to supply shiploads of food to our brethren in Tanna. Our missionary in Vila (Andrew Fox) has been monitoring the need and is sending loads of food (rice/tinned fish etc) periodically as needed. He expects... that the need will continue through the next few months. Thank you again for your continued support. 2015 has been a very hard year for our Ni-Vanuatu brothers and sisters. Please continue to support them any way you can, both through your prayers and your donations. There is a report of PRC Cyclone Pam Relief Fund spending available for anyone who would like to view it. Please send a private message and I will email the report to you. See more
10.01.2022 The latest... Last weekend Corey and I and Luke and Matthew Zylstra, and four friends from the RCNZ (Roel Dijkstra, Ant Lagas, Eric Janssen and Carl Reich) just got back from 2 weeks in Tanna, where we were doing disaster relief work. The plan was to go there and distribute seeds and food to villages around Lenakel and to use chainsaws to help with clearing felled trees in the villages and cutting posts for rebuilding local homes. We were also going to rebuild the church hous...Continue reading
10.01.2022 From Noelene Fox: Tanna Update 13/5/15: Andrew reports that his day started with a brisk walk down to Lenakel (with Meekah) to purchase 120 cyclone screws to finish off the church roof. Thankfully this excursion was successful and means that the church is completely finished!! Dad finished and hung the door yesterday. Today has also seen the completion of the painting of the outside of the mission house, the final screens put on the last of the windows, tiling finished in mis...sion house bathroom (grouting tomorrow). The list continues with new walls being put in (in a small extension/tool room?)and the roof going on the large cement tank (this was blown off in the Cyclone). Just an update on Dougles' hand, Mum describes it as a large cut which should have required stitches but it is healing nonetheless. Mum has been dressing it everyday and reports that he has less pain and a little more movement. See more
10.01.2022 This is why aid via corrupt/incompetent Government shouldn't be a first choice option for aid givers...
04.01.2022 Super exciting! Raglan Public School in NSW had a pyjama day yesterday and raised $300 to help our friends in Vanuatu. Wonderful that 3 months on from Cyclone Pam, people are still willing and able to give much-needed help.
03.01.2022 From the Foxes... And in Tanna news: Food distribution to 10 villages has been completed. Church roof being completed using 500 cyclone screws and heavy duty guttering added, including guttering to the adjoining rain water tank. Painting inside and out with many willing 'pikinini' helpers. Pray for Dougles Kaut too as he 'soldiers on' with a suspected broken finger. He has been to the local clinic but was unable to receive any useful help, apart from being told that he could have it amputated! This was advice given to him by the attending nurse, in the absence of a Dr, without any xrays or scans!! Dad bandaged it at the time and Mum being a nurse (and now in Tanna) is able to keep an eye on it as well.
03.01.2022 Today we spent around $6000 on food relief for Tanna. We thank God for your generosity, and hope to get this shipment to Tanna in the next week! We have also purchased 50 church chairs, 50 new hymn books and about $500 worth of nails for helping the communities rebuild their own houses. The hymn books are already in Tanna, and the rest should go with the food... Praise God!
03.01.2022 Noelene posted on FB about the deaths of children (from starvation) in Tanna. This is reliable info, as it comes from our Elder (and tribal chief) Tom Kaut. We are unable to feed the whole of Tanna, but we can 'do our bit'. We have sent about $1200 immediate help to the Church there, and they have purchased food for their village and about 5-6 surrounding villages. I am organising a 'food aid' pack worth about $5000 - due to leave Vila next week. I visited the National Disas...ter Management Office today, and they have assured me that they, too, are arranging a large distribution to reach Tanna next week. We pray that this will actually happen! We (as a Church) have the funds to purchase more food, so just pray that we have the time and strength to stay on top of things... Also, pray for rain on Tanna Island.
02.01.2022 Some pics from the trip... inside mission house; the new building; church in the school classroom; at Tanna airport.
