21.01.2022 Vets4Pets would like to take this opportunity to warn our clients of an outbreak of canine parvovirus that is affecting the Northern parts of Adelaide. IN THE ...LAST 3 WEEKS, 3 CONFIRMED CASES AT SALISBURY PARK Vets4Pets IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS, 2 CONFIRMED CASES AT ANGLE VALE Vets4Pets IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS, AN INFECTED LITTER AT NORTHGATE Vets4Pets TWO MONTH AGO, 1 CONFIRMED CASE IN AN ADULT DOG AT RIDGEHAVEN Vets4Pets 2 DAYS AGO, 1 SUSPECTED CASE IN A 6MTH OLD DOG AT GOLDEN GROVE Vets4Pets Canine Parvovirus (CPV) can affect dogs of all ages, but very young dogs and puppies are most susceptible. Outbreaks occur regularly in Australia, especially during the summer months. The virus can spread very rapidly, attacking the intestines, and causing symptoms such as bloody diarrhoea, vomiting, inappetance, drooling, severe abdominal pain and lethargy. CPV is very difficult to destroy, and can survive in the environment for up to 12 months. It can be transmitted to your dog in many ways; from our hands, shoes and clothing; directly from the environment; and through contact with other animals. Your dog does not have to come into contact with other dogs to contract CPV. Dogs require regular vaccinations to maintain their immunity against this often fatal disease. Treatment is very difficult and expensive, often with an unknown outcome, and the fatality rate is high. VACCINATION PROVIDES THE BEST PROTECTION FOR YOUR DOG. Please ensure your dog is up to date for vaccinations over the busy summer period, and contact any of the Vets4Pets branches for further information.
