25.01.2022 Only working for food, but hes not hungry for food, hes hungry for the work. How do you get here? Dont allow your dogs to develop a bias or preference for reward once the dog has adequate drive. We do this by promoting a gamblers mindset. Gamble the reward. Overtime the reward doesnt matter as much as the first opportunity (cue) to work. This is where the highest dopamine hit comes. ... Instil the understanding that the interaction between handler and dog is most valuable the reward itself is just a tool to that interaction. My dogs will bring me leaves, bread tags or tiny stones because they inherently understand this principle. They crave the work itself. Treat your food like toy by adding movement to it. I teach my dogs to catch food as young pups. This exponentially increases foods value because dogs love chase. Be consistent. Dont give up so quickly, this applies in every aspect of dog training. This shift in mindset for both you and the dog takes time, but will absolutely come if you are persistent.

24.01.2022 NZ 2.0 Advanced obedience seminar About to hit the road. Cant wait to hang with the misfit crew and work some nice dogs! Aotearoa my homeland, here I come

24.01.2022 NZ Advanced Obedience 2.0 workshop. I loved being home and working with everyone so much I literally forgot to take photos. Here are just a few weekend snaps.... I must say, I was IMMENSELY impressed with the improvement of all the dogs from the first workshop 6 months ago. The difference was nothing short of impressive. Nz is making a come back as a place of serious talent, yielding great trainers, decoys and dogs. Thank you to Karen Sili from Pressure Point K9 for organising a beautiful group and leading them well. Also a shout out to Cole Little from APEX Working Dogs for all your decoy help over the weekend. See you again soon Aotearoa

24.01.2022 Online sessions THE WAY FORWARD. A snippet of the effort that my online clients put into their work. This is the talented Joy Deith I have the privilege of working with as she preps for her BH. Im so excited to be working with some off the hook trainers no matter where they may be.

24.01.2022 SCENT DISCRIMINATION: for the application of IGP tracking This is an exercise you can use to ADD to your dogs repetoire of tracking training regardless of whether you use food or not. This exercise is great to teach to avoid the dogs from using their eyes on the track and indicating on an article that looks like it is the target. This exercise teaches the dog, you must follow your nose.... Once the dog understands how to differentiate target odour from non-target odour introducing it to the track is only going to add value to the dogs tracking skillset. Besides being a very useful exercise to teach, its also a lot of fun!

22.01.2022 Joseph Cinnante WORKSHOP: August 10th and 11th. Joseph from Advanced Canine Systems is coming to GOLD COAST (subject to numbers). Dont forget to nab a spot. Joseph is not only a french ring decoy but his OBEDIENCE work is next level.

21.01.2022 2nd team: Rhea and David: ADVANCED OBEDIENCE COURSE What an absolute pleasure it was working with this team. For someone who figured most of this stuff out on his own, his picture was very nice to start with. My job for the week was to help David move from very nice to awesome by tightening everything up. ... So Im there to help his heeling become more bomb proof, his turns tighter, fluid and more synchronised, a system for the dumbbell and blinds, helping his fronts, inhibiting unwanted behaviours, and other small adjustments that mean the difference between good obedience and jaw dropping. This team is absolutely on their way to being an A class act! Davids ability to take in new information and be open to changing his old system to adapt a clearer more concise system shows his tremendous aptitude for learning. I cant wait to see this team in a few months....phooooaaaarrr

20.01.2022 Day 2 of Pro Dog Training Melbourne week course. The dogs showed significant improvement on day 2. What an amazing bunch of dogs and handlers. Im impressed with their ability to take on new methods and ideologies and then applying it to their current pictures. 2 down 3 to go!

19.01.2022 RAW Engagement session with Kev and Missy. This is one of the teams that came along in leaps and bounds during our Advanced Obedience Course in Melbourne. One issue Kev had was the inability to apply engagement techniques correctly. He was working much too hard to initiate engagement and never knew how to keep her invested without bribing her. ... But by the end of the week Kev was impressively clear headed and systematic with his training. It was truly amazing to witness. And the result was a very clear picture for the dog. One thing Im big on is mentally rehearsing the picture the handler wishes to see before they come out on the floor. The task of Visualisation helps limit the amount of mistakes on the floor. We also visualise our response to potential errors, just as important. By the end of the week Kev had a beautiful ebb and flow in this engagement picture with Missy. He understood neutrality vs activeness, he grasped empowerment, and most importantly giving the dog good feeling, his transitions were also tighter to keep Missy invested. The biggest lesson he learned, is that great obedience comes from focusing on Attitude first.... Always. Proper engagement looks similar to a dance.... so enjoy Missy and Kevs moments of learning but also their beautiful synchronised dance. Nb. I am a little forward with Kev at times but only because it was the best way I found that got through to him quickly and concisely, especially if Ive repeated the same information a number of times. Another team may not need me to be so forward. Remember we are there to coach people and push pictures, not to always be on their good side. We can laugh and have a joke with each other after training. And we certainly did loads of that! Love this team

16.01.2022 BRISBANE: Engagement & Advanced Obedience WORKSHOP A few pics from Day 1. The weather threw us a curve ball but thats QLD for you . ... These amazing teams were a little nervous to begin with but by tomorrow our goal is to have them relaxed and smashing out goals. Im very blessed to be working in my own home town with a bunch of talented trainers. Thank you all for taking the time away from family and friends to come and hang and dog train together. Sue from Fellowship of the Paws - Dog training has done an outstanding job of hosting and organising this event. Cant wait for tomorrow

16.01.2022 Worked with some awesome teams this week. An all girls soiree. So heres a video of some of our work this week so people dont think Im taking a holiday because Ive been quiet. Just been busy working.... I also cant take credit for these teams wickedness. Ive just been asked to tweak their already awesome pictures. Very humbled to be asked to help with their journeys. ... #GirlPower

15.01.2022 Assistance dog training with Jodi and Benny. I have been working closely with this team for a few weeks now and the transformation in both Jodi and Benny are truly amazing. Benny used to bark at people on arrival. Now shes happy to see people and offers a sit instead of crowding them. ... Benny used to hate the harness, now shes coming into the harness on her own. Benny used to be extremely distracted while working and her heel she could only sustain for 3 steps, now she offers constant focus and her heel is to die for. She hardly deviates from that position. Benny used to chase and lunge at birds while working, now shes choosing herself to continue working and her impulse control has increased dramatically. Benny used to feel stressed and anxious when overwhelmed by adults especially in a public area, now shes much more relaxed and pushing through her stress by working. Benny had no recall whatsoever, now shes not only got a recall but shes running back with motivation and speed. All this progress is a testimony to Jodi and her ability to take the concepts Ive taught and really internalise them and at times adapt them to the situation and context. Thats a true dog trainers mind! To say Im proud is truly an understatement.

12.01.2022 ZOOSH up your obedience with MOTIVATION. If you want the dog to look happy and open in heeling it will come if you follow this simple rule. 1) ATTITUDE FIRST... 2) HEEL SECOND (as a payment for number 1) Focus on teaching them some basic motivational behaviours you can use to ZOOSH up and break up your obedience. It will keep it interesting and hold their attention for much longer. We use these simple behaviours like barking, spinning, leg weaves etc to pump the dogs up and once we like what we see we cap their ATTITUDE into their obedience. They learn that motivation pays and they get rewarded for their attitude by being in their sacred position heel. They cannot access heel without motivation first. If my dog is flat he does NOT deserve the heel position. Overtime, you will see a transfer of value effect from motivational behaviours into the obedience because we will mostly ONLY pay the dog in obedience. By the end you can flip the order, or mix it up and the dog will find it ALL motivating. But at the beginning It is worth the extra effort, because it will pay dividends in the long run.

12.01.2022 Only a few days to go! Cant wait to see all the Brisbanites with their cool dogs.

10.01.2022 Rush slowly: devil is in the detail. One of my PK9 students and good friend Roz Master demonstrates rushing slowly this morning. You will actually end up further along if you take your time looking at the detail and nuances of exercises instead of rushing to get nowhere quick. ... Slow and methodical work is always better when it comes to precision training. If you take the time to look at the components it will pay dividends in the long run. Excellent work Roz and Force. I Couldnt be prouder of your efforts

10.01.2022 *****NOW OPEN TO PUBLIC: Pats back in Brisbane/Gold Coast for a special 3 DAY EVENT. See flier. A message from Pat This year in Brisbane I plan to focus not just on the foundation of NePoPo but really dive deep into how to use the system to create powerful behaviours and rock solid stability within them. In doing that we will explore pressure (electric and mechanical) as a signal for action. A means by which we prepare the dog to receive a correction that if needed not o...nly brings on desired behaviours but ensures we never dip into demotivation. Working spots will be sent a video prep guide to follow prior to the training beginning so that we can count on dogs being used to demonstrate the complex steps, not the easy ones people can practice at home alone with no risk of negative impact to their dog. Im really looking forward to this one. Pat Stuart (The Canine Paradigm co-host/NePoPo teacher) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Spots are limited: TICKETS WILL ABSOLUTELY SELL OUT. Please dont message the page for information. Send an email as per the flier.

07.01.2022 A great bunch of people to work with.

07.01.2022 ****CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF NUMBERS. Unfortunately we had to cancel this event. Even though there was a lot of interest not a lot of people actually committed to paying and registering for the event. This event is funded by the ticket sales because of the high costs to bring an international trainer of Josephs caliber over. If we didnt have enough ticket sales to cover Josephs costs, we couldnt bring him to Australia. We are disappointed this has happened and all ticke...t purchases will be refunded in full over the next few weeks. Please ensure you contact me to arrange refund. To Joseph, we want to send our well wishes and thank him for his understanding. This is not a reflection of your work. You are amazing at what you do. It just wasnt in the stars for Australia this time. But it will happen. Thank you all. Tammy Xo Email: [email protected]

07.01.2022 How to first teach your dog to BE A TRYER via CLICKER training: At first, DONT FOCUS ON TASKS An active dog is the first step to empowerment. An empowered dog rarely stops offering options. ... An empowered dog is motivated by failure. An empowered dog loves challenges. Areta hasnt done a lot of clicker training, her empowerment work (shaping) has come directly through her IGP training so this is only her second session on a clicker. I thought this would be a good example of how we teach a GREEN dog activeness through the means of clicker training. She figured it out pretty quickly because shes learned how to learn. THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE PROCESS. ************************ GOAL: We are promoting ACTIVENESS by reinforcing EFFORT. It is not yet behaviour focused. If your dog isnt a Tryer or Active in its learning, try this process. Try clicking EFFORT instead of a conventional behaviour. Teach your dog the SYSTEM FIRST. The system being if you TRY, it will eventually lead you to the reward. 1) Firstly we put the dogs effort on a continuous reinforcement schedule. Click every effort. Areta offered sit pretty, sit, stand, and paw shakes. I clicked them all. Then once she understood how to push buttons, I changed the rules slightly to teach her how to use her new active mindset to push for a goal focused task. 2) we place the dogs EFFORT on an intermittent schedule by introducing set criteria for a specific BEHAVIOR. (Areta had a pod to touch with 2 feet). By changing from a continuous to intermittent schedule, what were aiming to do is create addicts for the work. An addict pushes harder and with more enthusiasm EVERY single time.

06.01.2022 HUMBLED.... Im so extremely blessed to have clients/students who are dedicated to their craft. Most of my clients dont live locally so travel afar to get to me. Its commonplace for most of my clients to get up around 3/4am just to make their morning sessions. Some clients travel interstate to work with me which Im truly humbled by. Thank you to my clients and students that trust in my guidance and mentorship. I truly do appreciate you. ... Heres a little clip of 2 such wicked people, Maggie and Kirsty with their dogs Quinn and Gary. These 2 teams are going to be a great little border collie explosive force.
