15.01.2022 Not the first machine that comes to mind when you think of tree health..... . The process goes by a few different names depending on your background: Deep ripping, radial trenching, soil aeration, soil remediation etc. . If you think of the material properties required for construction; High compaction, high bulk density, low air filled porosity and no organic matter/biological activity.....trees need the opposite of this to grow and function.... . The majority of urban soils aren’t conducive to tree growth and on significant trees, some intervention is necessary. . If we had 20 years to act, we could just add organic matter (mulch) and walk away, but we don’t have that amount of time, so we intervene. . Ripping and fracturing the compacted soil radially, outside the structural root zone minimizes damage to existing roots, then we also soil inject with additives that encourage the soil microbiology. .
