22.01.2022 Check out this visual on how important movement in labor is! . As we move and rock and sway, it allows our descending baby to have more room to move down, rotat...e, and get into an optimal birthing position. . Movement also makes our contractions that much more effective. . Walking, squatting, dancing, bouncing on the ball, etc., are all great ways to open the pelvis. Add in your birth support person, you have an opening pelvis and oxytocin release. Talk about a win, win! . . . . . . . . . #movement #labor #birth #naturalbirth #vaginalbirth #bellybirth #variationofnormal #mom #physiologicalbirth #childbirth #pelvis #birthball #mompreneur #entrepreneur #statesville #nc #incredible #powerful #mooresville #newborns #laboranddelivery See more
22.01.2022 It is with the generous permission of my client that I show you this incredible image of her baby, half wombside, half earthside. We want to show you the patie...nce and trust in this birth, and these hands. Not interfering or rushing, simply waiting. Not delivering, simply receiving. Warm, loving, patient hands, supporting baby’s gentle transition into the world and into mama’s arms. For many women, birth has the potential to look like this. For the vast majority, it doesn’t. We need to change our perception of birth. We need to bring back more patience, respect, gentleness, love and TRUST.
22.01.2022 Today's birth position is birth ball sitting! There are a few reasons that I love this position and a few times that I find it especially helpful: 1It can be... really helpful in terms of progress and/or comfort to have a bit of counter pressure against the perineum. If a birthing person is feeling like there is just a LOT going on down there sometimes it can cause them to add tension in their pelvic floor. Placing it against something like a birth ball, can facilitate a deeper "letting go" of the pelvic floor muscles around the safety of the birth ball. 2The birth ball is a great and EASY place to MOVE THOSE HIPS. If I observe that the birthing person is stiff and having a hard time moving (I get it, when something is strong and overwhelming sometimes we have the tendency to freeze), I often suggest the birth ball. It feels more intuitive for some to move while sitting on a ball. Hip circles, side to side, tuck and untuck. It's a great place to explore hip movements that will help baby maneuver through the pelvic bones and musculature! 3Sitting on a birth ball is upright. Meaning we are working WITH gravity to move the baby down. The beauty of this upright position is that it is also generally pretty restful. Some upright positions take more stamina, but this one allows for restful upright-ness! It is also a great position for facilitating connection between birthing person and partner- which increases oxytocin which increases contractions which speeds up labor! Get the partner a chair and some pillows and have the birthing person lean forward into their partner! 4Bonus tip: This is a great position to do massage in! While the birthing person is leaning into their partner or the bed, someone else can massage their back. Do you notice tense shoulders- massage there. Are their hips hurting? Great place to do some sacral work. Did you labor on a birth ball? Did you love it? Hate it? I would love to hear your experiences below.

19.01.2022 Birth is incredible.
19.01.2022 Thisishuge. The only predictable thing about birth is that it is completely unpredictable. Right now, this rings especially true. There’s a lot going down in... the world that we can not control. And it may be changing things about your birth. It’s not easy, but you CAN do it. Give yourself time and space to grieve what is changing. And then, work on controlling what you can control. Stack the cards in your favor. Maybe that means setting up virtual visits with a doula to train your partner in support and massage techniques. Jada offers lots of great insight here. You will tell your child stories of you rocking your birth during a pandemic. Or supporting birthing people birthing during the pandemic. Have you listened to the first episode of our new podcast yet? It was AMAZING to interview Jada of @birthdaypresence + @getboober. If you’re a birth worker, you’ll find super valuable advice on how to work through this time. www.bodyreadymethod.com/podcast
19.01.2022 How can you open the pelvis more when pushing?? Usually you’ll hear spread your knees wide to open the pelvis. But what part of the pelvis opens? When the knee...s spread apart, this tends to bring the femur into external rotation which opens the inlet, or the top, of the pelvis. But external rotation tends to close the outlet, aka where the baby is trying to move through during pushing. So, what should you do to create space in the pelvis while pushing? Internal rotation of the femur, or ankles out further than knees. Knees can still be wide, but focus on moving your ankles out just a bit further than your knees are! This can be done on your back, side, all fours! If someone is holding your leg, ensure they are gentle w the movement and not trying to force your leg. Just a little goes a long way! So when someone tells you to spread your knees to create space for your baby, it’s a statement that makes sense in the beginning of labor but maybe not anatomically correct when pushing. Interested in learning more?? Join us for one of our upcoming childbirth education courses! Upcoming class dates are: October 20, November 17, and December 8th! Each course is a one day course, and focuses on how to help you move through pregnancy and labor with ease and comfort. 18.01.2022 Great, easy advice for long-term pelvic floor health
18.01.2022 Start squatting at around 20 weeks pregnant. Set up your go-to squat area in your house. If you’re new to Spinning Babies and squatting, start two weeks of cal...f-stretching now before squatting. Why? Squatting lengthens the pelvic floor and other pelvic muscles to let your pelvis open more freely during childbirth. A longer pelvic floor is a more versatile pelvic floor that can hold urine, birth a baby, and make sex more enjoyable. It also improves digestion, and joint and perineal flexibility, reducing straining and hemorrhoids. Use our free Daily Pelvic Floor Exercises guide http://bit.ly/SpBPF

16.01.2022 Did you know that 1 in 10 late term pregnancy #stillbirths could be prevented if all women in the last three months avoided going-to-sleep on their backs. Many ...expecting parents often aren't aware of how important it is that when you are pregnant that sleeping on your side is thought to maximise blood flow and oxygen to your growing baby. Research shows, that from about 28 weeks pregnant, you should start to go to sleep on your side, either side is fine and that when you wake up on your back, just roll-over onto your side again. Falling asleep on your side, means you stay on your side for the deepest and often longest part of your sleep and that sleeping on your side in pregnancy has the potential to reduce late term stillbirth. The new #SaferBabyBundle contains a new position statement on improving awareness around side-sleeping #SleepOnSide Find out more at learn.stillbirthcre.org.au Or if you are a parent wanting more information head to Still Aware at http://stillaware.org/are-you-pregn/safe-sleep-in-pregnancy #ausperinatallossprofessionalsnetwork #pregnancyloss #preventingstillbirth #stillaware #stillbirthcre Centre of Research Excellence in Stillbirth

13.01.2022 Skin to skin with Dad is just as much a biological norm as it is to have skin to skin with Mum. The science tells us that just 30 minutes of skin... to skin with Dad after the Golden Hour (or two) with Mum actually re-wires his brain! As dopamine (the feel good hormone) rises, Oxytocin (the hormone of love and connection) is also released. This facilitates early bonds between father and baby which in turn makes for an easier transition into parenthood! We know baby’s receive just as much benefit too so it’s a win-win! As Osher identifies here it’s a fantastic way to help settle baby in those early days/weeks if they are being fussy for Mum (usually thanks to the smell of her breastmilk) so Dad’s - get your shirts off This information is of course just as applicable for all beautiful family situations whether same sex couples or for single Mums - then their support person can take on this special role Repost below from Beer and Bubs: childbirth education for dads at the pub Beautiful words about skin-to-skin and photo from new dad Osher Günsberg "Getting skin to skin with our boy Wolfie about ninety minutes after he was born. On the advice of superdad @kurtfearnleyinsta, I was whispering my first words to him, welcoming him to the world and making some promises to him. To say that the smell of him seeped into my brain and started to rewire things is an incredible understatement. We are now a few days in, and between feeds & nappy changes - whenever I can I'm whipping off my shirt and charging up on this little guy like he's an induction stove. I don't know how long he'll let me do it - but holy moly I feel the gears shifting between my ears when we cuddle like this. I can't nurse him like @audreygriffen can - yet when he's grisly but then settles when he's on me? I'll take that feeling for as long as I can get it. xx"

11.01.2022 The kneeling squat is a position that creates significantly more space in the pelvic opening, compared to being on your back. This makes the pushing stage easier for many women. Furthermore, woman can do this in all birth settings, even hospital beds.

08.01.2022 Kissing your baby changes your breast milk. Did you know that the undeniable urge to cover your baby in kisses serves a biological purpose? When a mother kisse...s her baby, she samples the pathogens on baby’s face, which then travel to mom’s lymphatic system. 07.01.2022 Birthing in the time of coronavirus. Here is a story and beautiful image from a Labor and Delivery nurse, showing off her new baby to her co-workers. ... "I had a lot of fear and anxiety in the weeks leading up to Juniper's birth. No doula, no water birth, no mother and sister smiling next to me. Lots of worry about catching the virus and being separated from my baby and my family. I also held onto so much gratitude that changes were being made to keep my coworkers and other patients safe. I felt sadness and guilt that I was struggling under these circumstances when many women all over the world deliver their babies during times of disease and war, much scarier than what I face today. I am so grateful that [my husband] could still be with me. I had amazing nursing and midwifery care. My sister FaceTimed throughout the labor and birth, and then was able to com and glimpse her niece from outside the hospital, through the window. My coworkers stayed away to keep us safe, but made sure to come by and see the newest addition to our family, and shower us with love. We can birth our babies however we need to. Plans change. Things will look different. There will b new fears and anxieties. But there can still be so much strength, support, and love." #birthinthetimeofcorona #covid19 #coronavirus #laboranddeliverynurse #laboranddelivery #postpartum #newmom #labornurse #childbirth

04.01.2022 Labour and Birth are unique and individual journeys for each woman. Birth stories can be helpful or not but this one is positive and powerful. There are a few evidence based positives, staying at home as long as possible as long as baby is moving and everyone is comfortable with it. Allows the natural hormones of labour and birth to get well established and minimises the risk of medical intervention (just by being at the hospital increases intervention). Upright and mobile positions, changing frequently helps baby move position to move more easily through the pelvis. One on one support from people you know and trust and have set up birth ideas and plans with are also evidence based for normal labour and birth. I love reading women’s birth stories, you may like to write your own one day, enjoy
