25.01.2022 Wow I learnt so much today in the Pregnancy & Postpartum Support Group - Vicki Hobbs monthly meet up. Nutritionist Jo Atkinson gave us so much valuable information on postnatal depletion and what women can do to support their gut health and their babies. Really fascinating. Thanks to everyone who came along and for bringing so much yummy food - probably not what Jo would recommend on the menu though great catching up with a few of my Hypnobirthing Australia clients and meeting their little ones - oh my gosh so much cuteness. Next months meet up will be Friday 28th June from 10am till 12pm. Vicki
24.01.2022 Just a reminder that our monthly morning tea is this Friday at Wellness on Whatley. Bring your blooming bumps and beautiful bubbas and share your birth stories, achievements or challenges with a cuppa and a cake. All welcome. https://www.facebook.com/events/525704297987374/
24.01.2022 Hi Everyone, just a note to say we are not going to have a meet up this month (September) as Pip and I are going to Cairns for the Hypnobirthing Australia conference and I don't get back till the end of that week so will just need some family time as I've had a pretty intense September with doula training. In October we are planning to organise a Saturday meet up instead of the Friday so dads / partners can come along as well so watch this space.
24.01.2022 Don't forget our monthly catch up is on Friday 28th June in Maylands - please bring a small plate to share for brunch - probably more savoury healthy foods. https://www.facebook.com/events/453716015445774/
22.01.2022 For those who are interested in working with women during their postpartum period, Julia Jones is running another Newborn Mothers Postpartum training with enrolments starting in March. You will absolutely love learning from Julia who has spent nearly a decade studying, researching and providing hands-on nurturing to newborn mothers. She is a very inspirational woman with so much knowledge and love of traditional methods. I loved her training and I adore her as a woman - she is just so gentle, authentic and knowledgeable. https://newbornmothers.simplero.com//www.newborn/training
22.01.2022 Come and see me at the Babywearers WA Expo #BWWAExpo2016 for your chance to go into the draw to win some awesome prizes. 1st Prize - Free Membership to the Back to Basics Birthing online course (valued at $295) 2nd Prize - $100 discount voucher for my Hypnobirthing Australia classes 3rd Prize - Bonding & Breastfeeding Relaxation CD (valued at $25) I'll also be demonstrating pregnancy / labour focus massage, acupressure points and relaxation techniques.
22.01.2022 Traditionally women supported women after birth mothering the mother with postpartum support because it was recognised that newborn mothers are just as vulnerable as newborn babies. Family members would look after the new mother after they gave birth, feeding them, supporting them, unburdening them from day to day activities and ensuring they were well rested and healing from their labour and birth experience. https://vickihobbs.com/mothering-the-mother-with-postpartu/
18.01.2022 We are definitely having a catch up this Friday so come along at 10am and bring a plate to share - I know everyone finds it hard to say goodbye - my hubby calls it the CSG Syndrome (Cant Say Goodbye) but we have to be out by 12pm as we only have the space from 10am till 12pm! https://www.facebook.com/events/417610325822499/
17.01.2022 Our next support group meeting is on Friday 30th August so come along to Wellness on Whatley with a savoury plate to share for brunch. https://www.facebook.com/events/445663526032167/
16.01.2022 Just letting everyone know that I will be at the Perth Baby Wearers Expo at NIB Stadium on Saturday 1st October. If you are pregnant or thinking about pregnancy, come down, check out some great products and services relating to pregnancy and the postpartum period as well as kids educational toys and so much more. Last year was jam packed full of interesting stands and workshops. I will be talking about hypnobirthing, independent childbirth education, pregnancy and labour focus massage (and offering mini-massages) while educating you and giving you some really good tools and techniques for a positive, calm birth and postpartum period as a newborn mother. Come and say hello. Vicki
15.01.2022 Going Back To Basics of Birth - The Five Senses I am so excited - my free webinar is this Friday morning. I love sharing my knowledge and encouraging women leading up to their labour and birth. I will share some really helpful tips using the 5 senses to relax and release tension, fear and stress, while stimulating your feel good, pain relieving hormones "endorphins" during labour and birth. If you can't make it live, that's okay just register and you will receive the link to the video so you can watch it later when you get time. You will also go in the draw to win some great prizes too. Here is the link to register: http://bit.ly/The5SensesBirth
14.01.2022 Happy New Year everyone. Just a message to say that Pip, Sam and I have been caught up with other commitments and back to school last minute to do lists, so we won't be able to meet up tomorrow. We will definitely be meeting on Friday 28th February as the lovely Jo Atkinson will be coming along to speak and answer any questions you have about nutrition.
13.01.2022 Today's meetup brought up quite a few really good discussions. I took some notes and wanted to share with you all. Maybe you would like to comment on anything that resonates with you, so please add anything in the comments. I asked the ladies what were some of the things they may have been given as advice from anyone that were either positive or negative. There was nothing specific but it did start a good discussion.... A really good quote was "It's not a problem unless you think it is a problem"..... So important to keep in mind that if it is not a problem for you, then why is it a problem for someone else. It is not their business what you do for your child and your family. It was also mentioned that women are not supported in breastfeeding. Yes we have all the breastfeeding photos on Facebook and we talk about breastfeeding more, but when it comes to support this is really lacking. I thought it was interesting to hear one view that formula is not the medicine for problems in breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is not discussed enough. Women are not given enough resources, and are not being encouraged and supported or being told that it is a "learning process that may take time to get right". Instead of just being told "you'll get it in a few days" and then leaving you to fend for yourself hospitals need to have more resources for women to ask questions, share their frustrations and feel encouraged, not fobbed off. When women don't feel confident, they feel like something is wrong, therefore are less likely to be successful with breastfeeding. Parenting 101 - is the boob! One mum was told by her Child Health Nurse that she shouldn't be breastfeeding her baby to sleep as she will spoilt baby - what a load of nonsense. I love this quote by Geraldine - "Babies don't come out as a problem that needs fixing" this mindset just causes so much anxiety for mums. We set our own limitations. The childhood author LR Khost says "Share your calm rather than join their chaos" - love it. Today's discussion was all about doing whatever you want to do - trust yourself and your intuition. Find your tribe and create your village. We then went on to talk a bit about labour and it was suggested "when labour starts ignore it, then when you can't ignore it any longer embrace it and ignore everything else" - Geraldine thought this may have been from the Rhea Dempsey book, but wasn't sure. Michelle shared her successful VBAC birth story, and the feelings and doubts she had in early labour, but the determination she had in researching and motivating herself to trust in her body and reminding hereself it was working - there was nothing wrong with her. Very inspirational Michelle for all the other VBAC mums out there doubting themselves and feeling anxious. The next meeting is Thursday, 23rd June at 10am till 12pm. Put it in your diary now and I hope to see you. Vicki
13.01.2022 Kate Middleton has confirmed that she used hypnobirthing to get through labour and her crippling hyperemesis, (an extreme form of morning sickness). Radio Perth 6PR shares a little of Kate Middleton's interview, but also our very own Melissa Spilsted from Hypnobirthing Australia joined Oliver Peterson from 6PR to talk about what hypnobirthing is and how it works.
12.01.2022 Our next monthly catch up is this Friday 30th August in Maylands. This is a casual monthly meet up for women to talk about pregnancy, birth and postpartum support as well as sharing ideas, giving suggestions and handy mum hacks and encouragement to one another. These meetings will be the last Friday of every month from 10am till 12pm and it is an Ask Anything" forum or just to chat and connect with other mums. Please bring a small plate of savoury foods to share for brunch.
11.01.2022 We are getting excited for our Hypnobirthing Australia Perth Picnic in the Park on Saturday 7th December from 10am till 2pm on the South Perth foreshore (nearest the Coode Street Carpark and The Boatshed Cafe). All those who have done the Hypnobirthing Australia Positive Birth Program are invited to come along, bring a picnic blanket and food, as well as water, sunscreen and hats and have fun with us and your bumps, babies and beautiful kids. 08.01.2022 Hello lovely ladies. As I am off to Sydney in a few days I wont get a chance to run the group this month, but when I get back will be keen to catch up. We may even organise another pamper session. Vicki
08.01.2022 The Doula Training Academy is hosting Chiropractor Dr Kimberli Forbes-Smith to discuss how chiropractic work can help women during pregnancy. 06.01.2022 Our next monthly catch up is this Friday 28th June in Maylands. Our monthly support group is open to pregnant and postpartum women who want to ask questions of other women in the group who have had their babies, and postpartum women who want to share their stories in a safe, supportive group as well as any struggles or achievements or hacks as a new parent. We will also have guest speakers from time to time but this month it is a get to know you space. Please bring a small plate to share for brunch - probably more savoury and healthy foods as we usually go over into lunch and everyone is starving but dont want to eat sweet treats. https://www.facebook.com/events/453716015445774/

02.01.2022 With it being the festive season and everyone is so busy or away, and I have births coming up (hopefully not on Christmas Day - but you know how it is - the life of a doula) so we won't have a December group meeting. On behalf of myself, Pip and Sam we would like to wish you all a very safe and happy Christmas and thank you for supporting us and meeting up with us through 2019. Keep safe, keep cool and keep in touch. Vicki x
