20.01.2022 "WATER BABY is now released as part of the 2019 Loading Docs season based on the theme of 'Power’. The story is about New Zealand's world-champion free diver Wi...lliam Trubridge and his partner, actress and free diver Sachiko Fukumoto, facing a new challenge in their lives - the birth of their first child. Most women in New Zealand can choose how they give birth - at home or in a hospital - but not all women in the world have that choice. In Japan, unable to have the birth Sachiko seeks - a natural water birth at home - she decided, with the support of her partner William, to leave her family town and come to New Zealand. This film is about the power of choice over how to give birth and how that decision impacts the parents and the child. The couple spends much of their time in water it is their second home. Over their lifetimes they have witnessed the degradation of our oceans. While humans once regarded oceans as all-powerful and infinite, we are learning that they are vulnerable and need our protection. The film shows their strong respect for ocean and the creatures within it and their belief in the future for their daughter and the planet - Mother Earth.
