24.01.2022 We are now taking orders for whole sides of beef, ready for delivery to the Hobart area and Tasman Peninsula this May. These cattle are black Angus yearlings, bred on our farm and exclusively grass-fed to produce beautifully tender and flavoursome beef. Growing conditions have been fantastic this autumn, with high rainfall and warm weather. As a result, our yearlings are in sensational condition and we are expecting hook weights of approximately 85-100kg per side ($1000 - $1...200 for a full side, butchered and delivered). We will be delivering to the greater Hobart area and the Tasman Peninsula on Sunday the 16th of May and Sunday the 23rd of May 2021. As always, every order is delivered personally by us at no extra cost. If you would like to make an order, drop us an email at [email protected] to reserve your side or simply send us through a completed order form (available for download from https://www.premaydenahill.com.au/) Questions? If you are interested in buying a side of beef but want more information, please check out the FAQs at https://www.premaydenahill.com.au/beefsales or get in touch! 22.01.2022 Planting time again! This is how we have spent our Spring for the last three years. Daniel promises me once this lot is in, we’re done! #chardonnay #tassiewine #vinecuttings #spring #vineyard #familyfarm #hellospring #viticulture #tasmanpeninsula
20.01.2022 Yesterday we were delighted to take part in Tasmanian Women in Agriculture's Tasman "Beyond the Farm Gate" tour. It was great to visit Hellfire Bluff Distillery and Port Arthur Lavender to hear their stories (full of honesty, optimism and inspiration!). It was a particular honour to show the group around our property and talk about our farm diversification works at Premaydena Hill and our plans for the future. Thanks to Belinda Hazell and Tasmanian Women in Agriculture for making this great event possible.

12.01.2022 If you haven’t already seen it, do yourself a favour and check out this recently released book from The.Naked.Farmer Ben Brooksby. It is a collection of stories from Aussie farmers with one thing in common - the willingness to get their gear off and talk openly about mental health (although probably not at the same time!). When Ben came to Premaydena Hill to interview and photograph Daniel for the book, we thought it would be a bit of fun and an opportunity to support a grea...t cause. What we weren’t expecting was the real, heartfelt conversation we would have with Ben and his sidekick Mason across our kitchen table that day. In the busy day-to-day of running a farm you don’t often get time to sit down and think about your feelings, let alone make time to discuss them with someone else. When Ben sat down at our table and told us the story of his mental health journey, it was so refreshingly raw and honest that we both felt compelled to open up and share our experiences too. And that is exactly what this book and @the.naked.farmer movement achieves so beautifully. It starts a conversation. It makes talking about mental health feel as normal as discussing the weather (which, as farmers, we do A LOT). Thank you Ben and the Naked Farmer team for allowing us to be part of such a great project #mentalhealth #ruralmentalhealth #royalflyingdoctorservice #thenakedfarmer #australianfarmers #areyouokay #mentalhealthawareness
12.01.2022 In conjunction with Tasman Landcare Group Inc. and the Australian Government's Smart Farm grants program we recently installed a publicly accessible online weather station at Premaydena Hill. This weather station is the first of a series of stations to be rolled out across the Tasman Peninsula. The aim of this project is to more closely monitor local weather conditions and form a greater understanding of the impacts of climate change and the climatic variability of different ...areas within the Tasman Peninsula. Anyone can access the data from this weather station by signing up for a free WeatherLink account via the website or app, and searching for "Premaydena Hill". https://www.weatherlink.com/ We would like to express special thanks to John Hueston from Tasman Council, Tasman Landcare President Guy Dobner, and the Tasman Landcare committee for securing funding for this project.
11.01.2022 Yesterday we picked Pinot noir for our first vintage, and the milestone was memorable in ways we never could have imagined. Earlier in the season we were quietly thrilled with the volume of fruit our young vineyard was producing. Then we had an unseasonably cold summer, followed by two hailstorms in the last month. After all the blood, sweat and tears (all literal, not metaphorical!) we had put in, we looked around our vineyard and were devastated to see berries splitting be...fore our eyes. Over three quarters of our crop was ruined. But, determined not to give up, we adapted our winemaking plans, put our boots back on and got on with it. The undamaged fruit was too good to leave for the birds! We are very grateful to friends and family for helping us pick at a moment’s notice. Vintage 2021 won’t be a big one, but we certainly can’t wait to enjoy our first bottle of Premaydena Hill wine. #viticulture #tassiewine #vintage2021 #pinotnoir #pickinggrapes #firstvintage #bloodyhail #bringonnextyear

11.01.2022 Nice day to mow the lawns! The only thing growing faster than the grass right now is the vines.
11.01.2022 There’s always one... This little calf is a twin, and while the cow fed both for the first few days she eventually decided to kick this one off to devote more energy to the other. While wandering around looking for milk he also seems to have taken a large cow pat to the head, which has now hardened into delightful manure deadlocks We have nicknamed him Roland (fellow Schitts Creek fans will understand). We’ve had mixed success with hand-rearing calves in the past, but we are hopeful that this one might have a good chance (those first few days of colostrum can make all the difference). #calfraising #bottlefedcalf #cattlefarming #calvingseason #blackangus #beefcattle #familyfarm #farmlife #rolandschitt

09.01.2022 When you try to teach your son how to feed out hay but the wonky bale lets you down... At least it didn’t take the fence out this time!
09.01.2022 Twelve months ago we started selling our grass-fed sides of beef direct to the public, and last Sunday we delivered our 100th order. We take great pride in delivering the beef we bred and raised on our farm straight to the kitchen benches of Tasmanian families and restaurants, and in 2021 we hope to provide even more. To be the first to know when we have more beef available for order, join our mailing list at https://www.premaydenahill.com.au/ ~ Daniel & Ella
09.01.2022 Vine pruning: before and after. It’s cold and muddy work and we’ve still got a LOT more to do (1300 down, 3900 to go), but it’s exciting to see these babies starting to take shape ready for vintage 2021

06.01.2022 We have a small number of beef sides available for delivery later this month. If you would like to order a side, please call us on 0447111109 or email [email protected] . We will post an update when we have sold out. Please note that due to high demand most of our Spring beef has already been pre-sold to customers on our mailing list. 05.01.2022 Happy days indeed! How to describe the relief of having grass? The release of psychological pressure is enormous - cattle farmer Helen White, we feel you
04.01.2022 Just a boy and his calf
04.01.2022 Roland the calf has made himself quite at home in the backyard now. We kept the dog inside or on the chain for the first few days while he found his feet, and when we cautiously introduced them to each other Roland quickly let Mabel know that he was the boss. He’s only going to get bigger so she might as well get used to it #bottlefedcalf #babycalf #farmlife #cattlefarming #blackangus
03.01.2022 End of another big week in the vineyard. See those little mounds of chook manure next to each vine? Daniel hand-shovelled each one, all 3240 of them. Moving over 5 tonne of manure by hand really is a shitty job (in more ways than one), but Friday night drinks taste sweeter knowing that our vines are fed and happy! #fridayfeels #farmlife #viticulture #tassiewine #coolclimatewines #tasmanpeninsula
01.01.2022 Kelleher’s Creek is in full flow this morning!Daniel has always said that the only thing missing from our farm is a river running through it. Turns out he just needed to wait for enough rain... #tassiewinter #rainonthefarm #fulldams #farmlife #newcreek #brrrr #cattlefarm #tasmanpeninsula
01.01.2022 Finally finished pruning today! 5220 vines later and we are exhausted, calloused and covered in mud, but happy with what we have achieved in the midst of our coldest and wettest winter so far.
