25.01.2022 Movement Thursday Jordy demonstrating the High Hang Power Clean. The clean in general is a technical weightlifting movement and unfortunately we see a lot of gyms and coaches teach this exercise incorrectly. ... When it comes to weightlifting, we ALWAYS teach from the top first before progressing to the ground. Hence, the High Hang Power Clean. We use 3 simple cues - Dip, drive and catch. However, the key aspects you should focus on are - Shoulders back, look straight ahead (Not down), partial dip (Shoulders still behind the bar), drive up with your legs, pull yourself under and catch in a partial squat. The purpose of this drill is learn how to generate power from your legs and hips, pull the barbell in a straight line (not away from your body or hitting the bar into your thighs!) and catch in an athletic position. Michael Keelan, my level 2 Weightlifting coach recommended individuals to practise this lift for at least 6 months before moving on! Additionally, this is a great exercise to learn correct movement patterns, particularly if youre new to weightlifting. Message us for more information or if you need help!

This pose helps your body relax and reduce your hear rate, can relieve lower back tension as well as stretch the hamstrings. How do you do it? Easy! Get as close as you can to the wall and lay on your back with your legs as straight as you. Depending on flexibility, you can need to lay away from the wall slightly.... Aim for holding between 5 to 10 minutes but go at your own pace. Have fun with this one!

Over the years weve seen sporting athletes complete a high intensity workout assuming it will improve their sporting ability and unfortunately, that is the norm these days. ... However, the goal of training should be to improve overall athletic performance aka speed, strength, power, coordination, technique, decrease their chance of injury and much more. Another key to improving performance is individualisation. We have tested this with the Darling Downs Panthers and private PTs and have seen great improvement overall. Therefore, starting Monday September 21st we will be begin our very first athlete sessions! Athlete will have access to the gym floor from 4:30PM to 6:00PM, Monday to Thursday and will be guided by Gio Davies to complete their own program. For anyone that does not Gio, he has worked with various boxing, rugby league, union, netball, afl and cricket athletes over the years and is a level 2 Australian Strength and Conditioning coach. Furthermore, athletes will also be able to access the gym in their own time during our open hours too. Price - $30 per week for gym access, individualised programs and supervised sessions. We will cap these sessions at 12 to ensure everyone gets coached correctly. To celebrate our new session, we will offer 5 athletes 1 MONTH FOR FREE! This will go to either the first 5 comments or messages that we receive. Remember, there is a big difference to being fit inside the gym and being fit on the field or court.

11.01.2022 Movement Thursday Jordy demonstrating a favourite movement of ours - The Foxtrot Walk. Ive been participating in dancing lessons since last July and Ive taken the classic ballroom dance into the gym floor. ... Using a mini band and leading with your left foot - The sequence goes, left foot, right foot across, left foot, right foot forward, left foot, right foot across then left foot and right back. Then lead with the right to return to the starting position. This is a great exercise that moves through different planes of motion, activates the lower body and helps with co-ordination. Here are some suggestions of fluids that you can take before or after a workout Water - Hydration 101!... Electrolyte drinks - Great for combatting fluid loss due to excessive sweating Sports drinks - An easy option that provides hydration and fuel (carbs/sugar) Dairy (If you can tolerate it) - Milk provides both hydration and a rich source of fuel in the form of protein and carbohydrates. Great to take a couple of hours prior to exercise or following exercise. Caffeine - The natural 'pre-workout' which can improve endurance, strength and power Beetroot Juice - An odd one, but the research has shown that beetroot juice can widen your blood vessels which allows more blood, oxygen and nutrients to travel to your working muscles! Give these a try! But remember, these will have varied results depending on your goals, intensity and training duration.
