16.01.2022 Story time: As most of you will know, Nevil Shute wrote the setting for On The Beach in his adopted home of Melbourne, Australia. But what most of you won’t know is that it was filmed where I grew up in the Mornington Peninsula, Frankston in particular. I was aware of the myth when I was a kid. It was a big deal with the locals at the time. It’s still a big deal with some locals. During filming, Gregory Peck lived on a property in my home town of Pearcedale, just off Robbie ...Road, (Robinson’s RD), according to a friend. Fred Astaire in nearby Koo Wee Rup. Ava Gardener in Frankston. She said something about filming the end of the world in Frankston was very apt, which I think was rather cruel of her. Some recognisable places: Mornington Beach, Berwick, Young St Frankston and Frankston train station. The romantic scene when Peck and Gardener meet at the station, in the background you can see very ornate white iron girders. I first saw those girders in 1985, rust-ridden however. The station was re-developed in the late 90s. I saw those girders unceremoniously dumped in a pile behind the back of the station. They were too heavy to lift. Now you can own a legitimate piece of the film with this US insert for $195. I'll be adding it to the website soon.

08.01.2022 I’ve been sorting through my Nepean Highway or Frankston collection. There was a cinema on either side and the manager allowed me to take as many posters as I wanted. This was ‘84-‘86. There’s some awesome stuff in there. I’m getting them restored and selling them off. It’s the moment of truth.

04.01.2022 It’s been a while since I posted on here. As some of you know, I’m a nurse and it’s a busy life, not made any easier with Covid. Since I put up the 400 or so posters last August, I’ve had a tremendous response. Letting go of them wasn’t as hard as I thought, no thanks to such wonderful customers. (I’ve had the occasional disgruntled, arrogant barters, but we can do without them). I’ve loved the new connections and conversations about films with you all. Particularly during th...is time. People have gone back to favourite films during isolation and hardship and it’s been very warm discourses indeed. I think I’m getting to the bottom of that batch and will be ready to bring out another 50 or so soon. There’s still gems to be found in the previous lot. Anyway, stay tuned.
