There has been a significant wholesale shortage this year because growers produced less after dumping loads of rotting stock last year. 19.01.2022 As you are probably aware, a Sydney Markets contractor has received a positive COVID test result. While we take this latest positive case EXTREMELY seriously, we would like to assure you of the following: The security contractors at Sydney Markets have been wearing PPE at all times when they are dealing with other Sydney Markets staff and members of the public. The infected contractor worked one shift on Sunday 9 August, from 8am to 4pm, while infected. Premier Fruit & V...egetables does not operate out of the Markets on the weekend, with any work done being undertaken from our home office in Gladesville. None of our staff attend the Markets on the weekend. Our Providore unit is located over the far back end of Sydney Markets, and is accessed through a separate, smaller gate. It is also not an area that is currently accessible to the general public, so it is a low traffic area and is not as heavily patrolled by the security contractors. Sydney Markets Management have always been incredibly diligent and proactive with their risk management of COVID. We would also like to assure you of the following: Our staff wear masks at all times (the only exception being while driving the trucks). Anyone handling produce wears a mask and gloves. Our staff have access to ample PPE. Hand sanitiser is available in multiple locations throughout our office and warehouse. We have a sink area within our warehouse and a small toilet block located right next door to our warehouse and staff wash their hands regularly throughout the day. Any staff member showing even the most minor of symptoms, has been assured they can, and should, stay home from work and get tested immediately. To encourage this, our staff have been advised that they will be paid for the time it takes to visit a testing clinic, even our casuals. If you have any concerns, please reach out to us by DM.
