25.01.2022 There are going to be plenty of Premier League players on show today, live and free from midday.
24.01.2022 Hey everyone, It's been a huge year for a whole lot of reasons, and now we've got three weeks of finals to end the season I want to see us end with as big and as safe a bang as we can! We're going to need some volunteers to help us out for the finals,... BUT HERE'S THE GOOD PART We just need you in the crowd! It's the perfect scam - you slip in for free and watch the finals, and all you have to do is marshal your particular zone in the spectator area by keeping count of how many people have entered and exited your zone. We'll even give you a clicker to do it! No need to actually count required! We've got people for the front gate etc. We just need a handful of people to put on a vest and marshal a spectator zone during the matches. So flick an email to [email protected] if you want a guaranteed place in the crowd for finals and help us out. DATES AND TIMES Sat 3 October, 11am - 5pm (share some shifts) Sat 10 October, 1pm - 5pm Sat 17 October, 1pm - 5pm
24.01.2022 Huge Premier League hockey news!
24.01.2022 NO SURPRISES AS GRADS LOCK IN DOUBLE On the final day of the Winc-Toshiba Premier League regular season North West Hobart Graduates Hockey Club have secured a minor premiership double, with both their women's and men's teams finishing on top of the ladder after 15 rounds. It was also a day for farewelling club stalwarts for both Tasmanian University Hockey Club and DiamondBacks Hockey Club as their respective captains and long-serving legends Helen Rackham and Richard Shelver...ton hung up their Premier League boots. Rackham's Students pushed O-H-A Hockey Club for four quarters but were out-gunned in front of the net as the Ships collected a 4-1 win thanks to a double to Sofie McLeod and singles to Julia Gunn and Maddison Brooks. Sancia Bingham scored Uni's only goal while Amy Chamberlain saw her shot cross the line only after the final siren had already sounded. A double to Phillida Bridley led DiamondBacks to a 2-0 win over Derwent Hockey Club in the lead up to the two sides meeting again next Saturday for an Elimination Final. Both teams gave a good account of themselves but it remains to be seen whether either was holding anything back, or if anything was gained from today's preview. Two goals to Josie Crowden helped North West Grads to a 5-0 win over Canterbury Hockey to make sure the minor premiership landed with the Bulldogs. Louisa Jacobson, Ashleigh Arthur, and Grace Calvert all scored goals as their side did it all in the first half and eased the foot off the accelerator in the second to avoid any risks with a huge semi-final coming up in six days. In the Men's competition Angus Boulton scored twice for Derwent as they accounted for DiamondBacks 6-0, North West survived a third-quarter fightback from Canterbury to secure a 6-2 win and end the Lions' slim finals hopes, and University won their dead-rubber against OHA 4-3 thanks to a Ben Read hat-trick, with the sides to meet again next week in an Elimination Final.

18.01.2022 It's the final round of Premier League Hockey this weekend. Derwent Hockey Club and O-H-A Hockey Club will be out to secure a finals double chance... with Canterbury hoping to cause an upset and sneak into the top four.
17.01.2022 Minor Premiers North West Hobart Graduates Hockey Club enjoyed a comfortable win against Tasmanian University Hockey Club in round 14 of the Winc-Toshiba Premier League. Marcus Richardson had a huge first half, scoring twice for the Bulldogs to get them underway, while Alexander Shaw and Tyson Bessell added their own names to the scoresheet in the second half. Paul Ancher and Ben Read scored consolation goals for the Students, but they now look ahead to next week hoping they can secure enough points to remain inside the top 4. Check out all of the excellent goals on the Premier League Hockey YouTube Channel: https://youtu.be/bdKjmTRRjn0
15.01.2022 It may have been top-of-the-ladder vs bottom when North West Hobart Graduates Hockey Club took on Canterbury Hockey in their final roster match of the Winc-Toshiba Premier League, but the Bulldogs needed to make sure of the win to wrap up the minor premiership as well. A big first half helped Grads take firm control of the match, with Josie Crowden in impressive form inside the circle in an ominous sign for their finals hopes. All the goals and highlights can be found on the Premier League Hockey YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/X-PpW1sBxm8
13.01.2022 If you haven't filled out the Hockey Tasmania 2020 Post-Season survey yet please take 10 minutes to do it over the weekend. There are some important questions in there that will guide some of the decisions around the Premier League next season so it is important to get as much feedback from players and officials as possible. https://us17.list-manage.com/survey
13.01.2022 It'll be do or die in this weekend's round of Premier League Hockey... with the dream of winning a premiership set to be over for a number of clubs. In the wome...n's competition - Diamondbacks will tackle Derwent Hockey Club in an Elimination Final... while it'll be season over for either Tasmanian University Hockey Club or O-H-A Hockey Club in the men's. 12.01.2022 It was a pretty simple equation for Canterbury Hockey in their round 14 Winc-Toshiba Premier League clash with defending premiers Derwent Hockey Club: win at all costs and keep their finals hopes alive just a little longer. Max Larkin and Sam McCulloch provided the miracles needed at either end, with the Goalkeeper keeping a clean sheet despite being peppered by the star-studded Derwent attack, while the captain slotted a big late winning goal. You can see how it all unfolded on the Premier League Hockey YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/Bd8yj5OpTgo

12.01.2022 TWO MONKIES LEFT HOMELESS AS SHIPS, BULLDOGS FINALLY FREE UP THEIR BACKS On yet another wet Grand Final day O-H-A Hockey Club women and North West Hobart Graduates Hockey Club men emphatically answered their critics, ending their finals hoodoos to claim the 2020 Winc-Toshiba Premier League titles. The day started at a blistering pace as the Ships were challenged early by DiamondBacks Hockey Club in the Women's Grand Final. The first quarter produced several excellent chances ...Continue reading
12.01.2022 2020 Post-Season Survey Hockey Tasmania is now conducting a post-season survey after the completion of the COVID-19-impacted 2020 winter roster. The survey shou...ld take no longer than 5 minutes to complete and we would be incredibly thankful to all members who find a moment to answer the questions honestly and provide constructive feedback on the season that was to help us improve and make decisions for the future of the sport. The survey is open to anyone who is connected with the Tasmanian hockey community, including but not limited to players, coaches, managers, umpires, officials, administrators, parents, spectators, life members, and everyone else. 11.01.2022 SUNDAY HURRAHS FOR LAST ROUND The Winc-Toshiba Premier League plays it's last round of the shortened 2020 regular season tomorrow on a Sunday as 4 teams will be knocked out the competition before the finals start on Saturday 3rd October. It pushes back on THC1 at the slightly earlier time of 12pm with O-H-A Hockey Club taking on Tasmanian University Hockey Club. The Ships need both a win and later results to fall in their favour to stand any chance of claiming the minor premi...ership, but otherwise their is not much at stake for the semi-final-bound side against the fifth-placed Students who play their last game for the year. Then at 1:30pm DiamondBacks Hockey Club and Derwent Hockey Club meet in a preview of their elimination final next week. With little to gain both sides are expected to keep a lot of their finals secrets hidden, but tomorrow represents a chance to take a psychological edge over their opponent if they want it. And at 3pm North West Hobart Graduates Hockey Club face wooden-spooners Canterbury Hockey for a tune-up leading into their massive semi-final next week. They won't want to take the Lions too lightly, though, as a loss could well open up a dramatic minor premiership question depending on other results. In the Men's competition things have got interesting again with 2nd and 4th spots on the ladder still in play. On THC2 at 12:15pm DiamondBacks farewell club captain and long-serving legend Richard Shelverton in their last game of the year against Derwent, North West Grads face Canterbury at 1:45pm with the Lions still holding out hope of sneaking into the top four, and at 3:15pm OHA play University in what could be, depending on other results, a mini-final for both sides. So head on down to the Tasmanian Hockey Centre and catch all the action live!
10.01.2022 The men's Premier League grand final is on today from 4pm at the THC! It follows the women at 2pm. Livestream also available for $1* per week for Mercury subscribers through their website. North West Hobart Graduates Hockey Club Tasmanian University Hockey Club
09.01.2022 The final regular season meeting between DiamondBacks Hockey Club and Derwent Hockey Club in the Winc-Toshiba Premier League may have been a dead rubber on paper, but on the pitch the action was as high as it usually is, with both sides looking for a psychological edge before their Elimination Final this Saturday. Triple-All-Star Phillida Bridley showed why she will be up there again for end-of-season honours with another brilliant midfield display of attack and defence, but the most important thing on all the player's minds now is just getting through their next game to take a step closer to the cup! You can catch all the action from the match on the Premier League Hockey YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/GG7XPHnltrQ

06.01.2022 FINALS SET TO FINALLY SEPARATE FIGHTING SIDES Some season-long rivalries will finally get a conclusive answer as the first week of finals in the Winc-Toshiba Premier League pushes back this Saturday from midday at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre. Don't forget to check in on The Mercury Newspaper Livestream of the Semi-Finals later in the day. Subscribe to the Mercury for just $1 a week* to get immediate access.... DiamondBacks Hockey Club and Derwent Hockey Club have been swapping positions between 3rd and 4th all year, and they'll face off in an Elimination Final at 12pm on THC2 to start the day. By the end one will be through to a prelim while the other will be left dreaming of what could have been for 6 months. Maroons All-Star Phillida Bridley is hitting some rich form at the moment, while Derwent's Amelia Spence has been getting better every week after missing the first half of the season with injury, so that battle for midfield control cold be the key to it all. At 12:30pm on THC1 O-H-A Hockey Club will have to find a way to stop the Tasmanian University Hockey Club train that's threatening to leave the station at full steam. The Students are full of confidence after winning 2 of their last 3 encounters with the Ships this season, while OHA have nursed a number of senior players through the last month and will be hoping they'll be ready to go for the weekend or else it will be an early off-season for a team that was so close to securing second spot. Joseph Murphy has been OHA's main man all year, and they'll be looking for him to keep going to see them through, while Ben Read has been back to his inspirational best recently for University. The Semi-Finals start at 2pm and will both be livestreamed for subscribers to the Mercury. North West Hobart Graduates Hockey Club pipped OHA on the final day for the minor premiership, but on the line now is direct passage through to the grand final on the 17th of October and a week off. Both sides boast big attacking options, with the top four goalscorers in the competition on the pitch going head to head (responsible for over 25% of goals this season between them). But it'll be key defender Ruby Brothers for the Bulldogs and Evelyn Dalton in goals for the Ships that could be the decisive factor. If they can have big games preventing their opponents from scoring it'll go a long way towards the win. And at 3:30pm it's the Bulldogs vs Derwent in the Men's Semi-Final. Both sides have scored at a rate far exceeding the rest of the competition, so it's expected to be a thrilling goal-feast. Angus Boulton for Derwent and Jai Walker-Kidd for North West Grads are expected to do the bulk of the scoring, but the match may well be decided by how well secondary scoring options Oliver Arnold and Keegan Popowski do for their respective sides.
06.01.2022 Congrats Josh, Hayden, Jack and Eddie!

04.01.2022 This time last week we were treated to an exceptional grand final for the Winc-Toshiba Premier League Women between O-H-A Hockey Club and DiamondBacks Hockey Club. You can now go back and watch the entire thing from start to finish in this special presentation from Premier League Hockey, including full commentary from Scott Edwards and Adam Clifford, additional replays and angles that weren't available to the stream, plus footage from the post-match presentation and an interview with the Player of the Final medal winner. 04.01.2022 GREAT EXPECTATIONS IN A TALE OF TWO SEASONS The Winc-Toshiba Premier League Men's Grand Final will provide sweet relief for the victor and a continuation of prolonged agony for the loser as destiny beckons both sides to break with their own recent history of disappointment and underachievement. It pushes back at 4pm on Saturday, 17 October as minor premiers North West Hobart Graduates Hockey Club seek to overturn six years of finals heartbreak to claim their first title since... 2014 against a Tasmanian University Hockey Club side that is riding a wave of momentum, but have their own 18 year title-gap to think about with a couple of Grand Final day demons to exorcise themselves. The Bulldogs were minor premiers again and dropped only 6 points across the course of the shortened 2020 season, winning a come-from-behind semi-final against the defending premiers on their way to the Grand Final. Their list boasts some serious international and national level talent, and has a strong sense of maturity about it in terms of experience. James Bourke will again lead from the back and hope to steer his side to the ultimate prize, and he'll be assisted by former New Zealand star Alexander Shaw, former WA Thunderstick Matthew Lim, Australian U21 Gobindraj Gill, and Premier League All-Stars Oliver Arnold, Alistair White, and the prolific Jai Walker-Kidd. It's a daunting examination for the Students to take. They only just scraped into 4th spot on the ladder with a healthy dose of luck and looked an unlikely option for a Grand Final opponent three weeks ago. Since then they have found something special to drive them forward in the form of goalkeeper James Shepherd and talisman Benjamin Read, who have both produced finals performances of already mythical proportions two weeks in a row. Can they do it for a third week and claim the title against all odds? With Tyler McDonald and Joshua Brooks in superb form, James Dick remembering how to score, youngsters Michael McDevitt and Sam Payne stepping up, and legendary veteran Paul Ancher winding back the clock, they have all the pieces they need to unlock this 18-year-old puzzle. The match will be livestreamed with full commentary to subscribers to The Mercury Newspaper - sign up and gain instant access for just $1* a week!

01.01.2022 It was the last round of the Winc-Toshiba Premier League and, while O-H-A Hockey Club knew they had a Semi-Final coming up, Tasmanian University Hockey Club had their last game for 2020 and used it to farewell their legendary captain Helen Rackham. The Ships managed to build a first half lead but the Students threatened to peg them back all day in a competitive showing from their squad. Rackham was again fittingly among the best on ground, but she leaves knowing there is a young group of hard-nosed defenders coming through ready to replace her.
