22.01.2022 ... As a manager its important to be mindful of how and why you draw the line in the sand with your team. There are two sides to that line and you may not like whats on the other side.... Weve dealt with a number of clients who have had issues from drawing the line in the sand and have said " .." When you say such a thing and draw that line, be mindful that you have most likely written out a job description including their roles and responsibilities. Far too often managers dont update job descriptions and role responsibilities as they tack on more and more to someones position. If you have an employee asking you for more money, be mindful that they may be asking because you have added more responsibility to them that isnt part of their job description. So if you draw that line and tell them to , first make sure that what you want them to do is part of their job description (which both parties should have signed and agreed to) We have seen many people turn to their managers, drop their job description on the table and said "This is my job, this is what I do. No More... no less" Now before you consider "they should want to help out more to grow the business" that helping and caring goes BOTH WAYS. Start to as your team or their suggestions and ideas on how to grow the business, how to save money, how to pivot. They will work to find you solutions to survive rather than you picking to hoard cash reserves. 3 - If they have given you feedback or new ideas, act upon it. If you cant explain why.
