20.01.2022 Miss S begins Big School this year, it’s because of her that Prep Steady School Ready was born. I’m so proud of her and how far she’s come. I’m so excited to see her able to write and recognise her name, recognise the letters of the alphabet as well as the sounds, know her numbers from 0-30, know her shapes and colours. She’s even started reading basic level one books and working on her sight words. I’m proud that she is eager to learn and grow. I’m proud of the packs I’ve ...created that have gotten her to where she is. I want you to know that I am here to help support your child too! My resources from the ready made packs to the Prep Steady Club are all resources that I create with you and your child in mind... I always think would Miss S enjoy this as well as what learning goal am I trying to achieve. Each activity created has a learning intention and is something your child will need to master in their first year of school. I now also begin my packs with Miss G (3yrs) who is completely different and extremely hands on, so I can’t wait to share our journey with you along the way. 12.01.2022 SAVE THIS POST- and try and do at least one of these daily with your child. * Read to your child daily and talk about what you’ve read. Try and comment along and say things like oh I would be sad too if that happened to me * Visit the library and borrow books. We have so many books at home but there’s something extra special about having your child borrow from the local library.... * Sing rhyming songs. Nursery rhymes help develop inferencing skills, both with encountering new words and in reading comprehension. Because these verses are made up of patterns, they are easy first memorization pieces. * Put your child’s name on their clothing and toys to help him or her recognize their name in print. * Encourage your child to write his or her name. Our name packs are great for that! They also teach your child the correct way of writing letters. * Help your child learn basic colours by pointing and naming objects like green trees, red apples, or blue coats. * Give your child puzzles and games that require counting and problem solving. Miss S LOVES Uno at the moment. Never thought about how many learning opportunities in that game until now. (I’ll do a separate post about that) * Let your child scribble, draw, write, and cut and paste. * Sing the alphabet song with your child and provide visuals or other toys that will help him/her begin to recognize the letters of the alphabet. * Take your child to the zoo, park, grocery store, post office, and pet shop. Talk about the sights and sounds of your day. Talk talk talk... ALL day long about every thing! Playing eye spy is so wonderful too! * Make time for your child to sing, dance, climb, jump, run, and ride tricycles or bikes. Which one have you done today? I’ve read books to them and we’ve done lots of drawing and painting
