25.01.2022 The Commission of Assembly met online this morning to decide on revised arrangements of the October 2020 General Assembly led by our Moderator, Colin Morrow and Clerk of Assembly, John Wilson. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Moderator invited the members for half an hour of open prayer for our leaders and our community. The Moderator closed by reading this passage from Habakkuk 3:17-19. "Though the fig-tree does not bud... and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the sheepfold and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Saviour. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights."

20.01.2022 Australian Presbyterian World Mission (APWM) invites you to set aside Sunday 12th July, to focus on prayer for, and support of, ministry with Indigenous Australians. Originally planned to coincide with NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) Week 2020 which has been postponed due to COVID-19, this is a way of reminding the members of the Presbyterian Church that there are great spiritual needs among the Indigenous community. https://www.apwm.org.au//indigenous-ministry-sunday-12th-/

20.01.2022 In one week's time, we will be holding our annual General Assembly where our Moderator, Colin Morrow will hand the reins over to the Moderator-Designate. We would like to acknowledge Colin and his wife, Alison who have served us so cheerfully, diligently and faithfully these past twelve months. Colin rolled up his sleeves and worked especially hard when the pandemic struck earlier this year, the effects of which continue to be felt today. His wise, measured and unwavering leadership is deeply appreciated by all of us in the PCV. Thank you Colin and Alison!

16.01.2022 Over the history of the Christian church, adversity has often flamed a greater zeal within God’s people. The death of Rev J. H. Davies in April 1890 could have meant the end of the endeavour of the Young Men’s Fellowship of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria to establish a Victorian Presbyterian Church mission in Korea. He had been struck down with smallpox and pneumonia as he rode his pony south from Busan in Korea to where he felt ready to start this work. His sister Mary,... who had accompanied him to Korea 5 years earlier, returned to Australia. But far from dampening the growing missionary spirit in the colonial Victorian Church, the death of Rev Davies challenged the home Church to make greater efforts. By August 1890 the women of the Church, who were already involved in various ways of supporting missionaries, banded together to form the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union of Victoria (PWMU). In 1891 they had already raised enough financial support and developed the necessary organisational support and sent three women missionaries to Korea. This year PWMU celebrates 130 years of promoting and supporting the outreach work of the PCV across many, many cultures. Our Moderator, Colin Morrow and his wife, Alison celebrate the occasion at the PWMU Thanksgiving Rally in lockdown style with mini Pineapple Meringue Tarts and Neenish Tarts, made from recipes in the PWMU Cookbook (but, of course!) For more information from becoming a member to ordering the famous cookbook, go to pwmu.org.au

15.01.2022 A few years ago the Australian Presbyterian World Mission (APWM) launched an appeal so that the Presbyterian Church of Australia, could buy Bibles for our brothers and sisters from the Presbyterian Church of South Sudan who are in the refugee camps in western Ethiopia because of the ongoing civil war in South Sudan. Thank you to our members who generously contributed to this appeal. Last weekend we received confirmation that 9,000 Bibles and 200 audio Bibles have been placed into the hands of the believers in the camps after significant logistical challenges. We are so encouraged by this story as it demonstrates the progress of the gospel across the world and helps us appreciate some of the struggles that our brothers and sisters live with every day.
