I see many, many people cross at the pedestrian crossing outside Present Story every single day, and it concerns me a little that people are using their shoe to activate the signal. Absolutely no judgement here but I also see small children who are excited to press the button, plus people in wheelchairs who may not have an option but to use their hand. It makes me wonder what is on the soles of those shoes that h...ave previously been there. I don't believe this is a deliberate act in any way - we are all currently hyper sensitive to touching 'things' in public spaces but a knee, an elbow, a key, are all perfectly good substitutes. INDICATE : 1. to point out or point to; direct attention to... 2. to be a sign of; betoken; evidence 3. to show, make known : signal OK, I can feel a rant coming on so suffice to say, indicators are to INDICATE your intention of movement. When you are stopped at a red light, with cars coming up behind you and the light goes green - this is NOT the time to exercise your wrist and apply slight downward pressure to that little indicator stick, which activates the amber lights on the side of your car, which tell people what you intend to do. On approaching an intersection, possibly 20 metres away from where you intend to change the direction of your vehicle, THIS IS a good time to apply that pressure and indicate to the cars behind you what your intentions are. Seriously, have we become so lazy in this lockdown that we have forgotten how to drive with awareness of other cars on the road ?? Oops, maybe I had a rant anyway !!! Here endeth the lesson.
