25.01.2022 Gut health is a very interesting area of research and the foods we eat can directly affect how we think and feel. Foods rich in resistant starch (unripe bananas, cooled potatoes and pasta), probiotics (yoghurt, fermented foods), tryptophan (turkey, salmon, eggs) and selenium (brazil nuts) can all help boost our mood and happiness levels

21.01.2022 Not all breads are created equal . So many of my clients are often surprised to hear that wholemeal bread isnt the best option. When choosing bread look for the darkest loaf with the most grains and seeds.

20.01.2022 FoodSwitch is one of my favourite apps for finding the healthiest products available. It uses a traffic light system to classify foods high in energy, fat, saturated fats, sugars and salt . The app has many filters that I encourage my clients to use for a range of conditions and allows them to choose the best products while shopping. Download the app and start scanning the products in your pantry - you may be surprised how they stack up. https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/foodswitch/id478225318?mt=8

15.01.2022 I was meant to make chicken katsu for dinner but it ended up looking more like #chicken #nuggets with salad. This would be great for kids. I use quinoa flakes as the crumb and oven baked these instead of shallow frying.

15.01.2022 Another reason to cut back on salt. A study has linked high salt intakes to killing off our healthy gut bacteria

12.01.2022 Our guts play such an important role in our health and wellbeing, and it is such an interesting area of research. Food plays such a large role in influencing the types of bacteria in our guts - which make up 70% of our immune system and can affect how we think and feel. Our bodies are pretty amazing!

10.01.2022 Happy Dietitian’s Day! Being a dietitian is such a rewarding job and I love helping my clients achieve their goals. #dietitiansday

08.01.2022 Plant based diets are on the rise Following a plant based diet is linked with a reduced risk of developing diabetes and heart disease. Remember to fill your plate with in season vegetables for maximum nutrition.

07.01.2022 There's a new post on the blog all about the food trends that will start to emerge in 2018. Expect to see some unusually coloured foods too - bright blue foods and drinks naturally coloured with blue pea flour and bright green from pandan will feature heavily.... What food trends are you excited to see more of?

06.01.2022 Walnuts are known for their benefits for heart health, but did you know they also help your gut bacteria? A perfect portion is 30 - 40g, which is roughly the size of a post-it note.

04.01.2022 Spaghetti bolognese is such an easy dish to pack so many vegetables into and most go completely undetected. Ive added carrot, zucchini, onion, capsicum, garlic, passata as well as freekeh and mince and some homegrown oregano . Meals like this freeze well to create quick and easy dinners when you just dont feel like cooking. If you have some bulk cooked healthy meals pre prepared in your fridge or freezer you are more likely to make healthier choices, rather than ordering take away options.

03.01.2022 My number one tip is to eat more vegetables and move more

02.01.2022 Brighter than the sun Mangoes are my favourite food and they are so good at the moment. Rich in vitamin C, vitamin A and flavonoids whats not to love .

02.01.2022 I see a lot of clients in the clinic that have had IgG blood tests done for food intolerances. These tests only show that you have been exposed to these foods - not that you are intolerant or allergic to them. To accurately diagnose a food intolerance an elimination diet involving restricting the suspected food, challenges and reintroduction is the gold standard. So many of my clients are often relieved that they don't have to exclude an often exhaustive list from their usual diet after going through the challenge phase.

02.01.2022 This week is World Iron Awareness Week. Did you know women between 19-50 years require more than double the iron intake of men! The symptoms below are common in iron deficiency. Could you be short of iron?... #worldironweek

01.01.2022 Starting Australia Day celebrations early with a Lamb, Haloumi and Pea Salad for dinner. Have a wonderful day tomorrow celebrating the great country we live in .

01.01.2022 I always get asked what I buy at the shops so thought I would share my fruit and veg shop for the week. The vegetables are for 2 adults for 4 dinners plus some fruit for the week (plus whats left in our fruit bowl from last week). I usually spend around $40 per week (for 2 people on fruit and vegetables). Remember it doesnt have to be super fancy, but try to aim for 3 veg serves at dinner time . My New Years Resolution was to try to use less plastic - starting by remembering to pack the reusable shopping bags back into the car after each shop .
