21.01.2022 I am standing for election to Stonnington Council - East Ward - because I am concerned about overdevelopment in our neighbourhood and the way residents’ opposition to planning issues have been systematically ignored. I grew up in East Malvern and moved back with my own family because we love this area and its community. The disappearance of heritage homes, gardens and green spaces is something we all should be concerned about. All the research about climate change and the... urban heat island effect tells us we need to keep all the trees and open space we can, for both our physical and mental health. Whilst we have intuitively known this, the coronavirus pandemic has proven beyond doubt that high rise and dense populations are not safe and not healthy. Epidemiologists the world over are saying that. It’s no accident that people in New York were dying at the rate of one every 2 minutes. I am an endorsed candidate for the Sustainable Australia Party, which is strongly opposed to overdevelopment, and strongly opposed to corruption. Stonnington deserves Councillors who will stand up for residents against the cosy deals of the State Government and property developers, and oppose their unsustainable growth, with its massive infrastructure costs and accompanying rate rises. I look forward to hearing from residents about what they think Council can do better. Take care.

15.01.2022 Heritage protection Where once stood the gracious and historic Edwardian villa, Idylwilde, in St Georges Road, now sits a vacant block. When it was sold to an international buyer, there was all sorts of handwringing and back and forth between the State government and Stonnington Council to protect it. But it was bulldozed anyway.... None of it was salvaged not even a fireplace. Just all turned to dust. It should never have happened. To rub salt into the wound, the international buyer is now selling the vacant land so it all amounted to nothing. So much needs to be done, at all levels of government, to ensure we don’t lose any more of our historic homes. Once they’re gone, they’re gone forever. As the first step in the planning process, it is contingent on local governments to ensure this kind of destruction doesn’t happen again. And they need to be proactive about it. If elected to Stonnington Council East Ward, I will push for an Inquiry into Heritage Protection so an Idylwilde doesn’t happen again

11.01.2022 Percy Treyvaud Memorial Park One of the most contentious and distressing issues for East Ward residents is the proposed stadium at Percy Treyvaud Memorial Park. I want to be clear about my position in relation to this matter. I am opposed to the stadium in this location. There are a number of reasons why and they include:... The Environment Hundreds of trees and vegetation will be cleared and fauna displaced with the creation of this stadium making a mockery of Stonnington’s decision to declare a Climate Emergency earlier this year. This declaration is obviously nothing more than ‘virtue signalling’. Stonnington also has the second lowest amount of public open space per person in any Victorian council. This is appalling and as more people more into the area, there will be more demand and pressure for access to green spaces. Community opposition Stonnington have ploughed on with this despite huge opposition from local residents. Residents whose local area is always under pressure from an ever-expanding Chadstone Shopping Centre. The way in which the relationship between residents and Council has deteriorated has been sad to watch. I’m full of admiration for the way Residents Against the Stadium have stood firm in their opposition to this development. The cost to them, emotionally and financially, has been enormous. It’s the wrong location Surely a Prahran Netball Association needs to be locatedin or near Prahran! As an East Ward resident and a former Prahran netballer, the selection of Percy has always struck me an odd choice. Prahran Netball Association have used Orrong Romanis for years and it seems strange why this location wasn’t the obvious choice when thinking about a new facility. The way forward I love sports and want to ensure residents, and particularly children, have access to great sporting facilities. But it can’t be at the expense of ever diminishing green space. My objective, if elected, would be to ensure that an alternative plan to improve and enhance Orrong Romanis be considered. Importantly, I will also work to try and restore some goodwill between Council and residents that has been eroded over the issue.

11.01.2022 Central Park. It’s a jewel in East Ward’s crown. But this toilet block has been an eyesore for decades and needs replacing. It should also include upgraded change facilities for the all sports that use the park. I think Katie Allen referenced this in her Federal campaign. Has anything progressed? ... Wouldn’t it be great if a new design could pay homage to the bandstand that stood there years ago? Would be wonderful to have music in the park in the warmer months. What do you think?
