25.01.2022 WOW!!! What a blast from the past! Sorting an old storage tub out and come across some old pics! All these horses were babies with one being a green broken Andalusian stallion I had the pleasure of working with! Shame I only have a handful of pictures from nearly a lifetime of riding

20.01.2022 Prestige Lucky 16 on a 36 tree so nice and wide. 2cm shortened flaps to allow more contact of leg Added flap reinforcement ... All over calf skin leather This saddle has had very minimal use and would suit a buyer wanting new. In excellent condition with no marks. (Little dents show in pics on flap are from stirrups being run up when not in use not damaged at all) This saddle will suit either a child or small adult and fits both my ponies and large warm blood so is very versatile. Extremely soft and comfortable. Located Morangup/east Gidgegannup or can post at buyers expense. 2500

15.01.2022 I absolutely love this horse and why I love working and starting babies. Joey has been in the paddock for 8 months now, only coming out and being handled for feet and teeth during this time. Today I started bringing him into work, he’s only had 6 rides under his belt. The video clip isn’t very clear it’s hard to video and lunge at once but even though it’s not perfect I love how responsive he is after so long out. Establishing good foundations at the beginning sets them and you up for a lifetime of success!
15.01.2022 Welcome to the family Sash Thanks to Em Spadaccini and Jo Spadaccini for breeding and allowing us to purchase Sash. She’s already fitted in like she’s been here forever and is absolutely phased by nothing, just a super sweet gorgeous little girl. Can’t wait to see her progression and what the future will hold for her. I have no doubt it will be something amazing her disposition.

05.01.2022 Today was dental day here!! Thanks to Tom at Perth Horse Dentistry & Veterinary Services for always doing a fantastic job with all ponies.
04.01.2022 Busy day today with Joey booked in for a scope first thing this morning. This has always been of interest for me to do with him as he never follows the rule book. I thought now with him about to commence his education under saddle and progression to start going out and competing would be the prefect time to get a baseline assessment. I was presently surprised with how clean his scope actually was! He was not perfect by any means and on medication for the next 28 days with a... follow up scan but for things this boy has invested in his life I would of expecting a high grade ulceration! Just shows that even with access to roughage all day round, low sugar feed and low stress horse and environment they can still be hiding some form of issues. Joey shows no outward typical signs of ulcers and it will be interesting to see if his foreign object eating will cease or not after treatment of his hyperkeratosis. Thanks to Tania at Avon Ridge Equine Veterinary Services for your services and professionalism once again! Later I took Dork out for some hill work out in the bush since the weather was simply amazing today. We came across a little creek going over the track and was a good test of how Dork handles running water.... he happily went on over and up the hill. Then on the way home we found a large puddle with significant tyre trenches under it. The joys of little legs we were nearly belly deep as we waded our way through! Hopefully this means there will be no issues at all with water jumps next season!
03.01.2022 PLAITING - PCAWA DRESSAGE I will now be done at the SEC on Saturday 15th August for the dressage champs plaiting. I only have a couple of spaces left if you would like any plaiting down please book in ASAP to avoid disappointment.
03.01.2022 Lunging... Why I love it. Lunging is so much more than just simply chasing your horse around in circles for what is perceived as exercise for fitness. It’s also far from using equipment to force a horse into what many believe to be a correct frame. Training a horse to work and use himself correctly will in turn produce a horse who is balanced, strong, flexible and able to work and hold himself correctly. A horse who has been correctly trained to lunge is able to be worked i...n any environment not just a round yard. I personally only lunge my horses in open spaces and love the freedom it gives me to move the horse as needed without any restrictions. The biggest thing when starting to lunge is to have someone who is experienced on hand to talk you through it. Lunging can become dangerous to yourself and your horse if you are inexperienced. No one however is too young to learn to lunge and it’s something I myself teach my children and foals. It’s fantastic for establishing voice commands and the ever important forward and stop gears. Lunging doesn’t need to be a long session nor always at high intensity. Short simple regular sessions is best with anything new and increase with understanding and when physically prepared. Lunging is a great tool to regularly asses where your horse is at both mentally and physically and easily asses if there is any soundness issues starting to arise. There are many different exercises in which you can lunge your horse to keep it interesting and work the muscular, skeletal, respiratory and cardiovascular systems. Flexion and bending is a great exercise to do on the lunge and one I do regularly. What is the difference between flexion and bending? For one you can flex your horse without bending but it is not possible to bend without flexion. Flexion is solely performed from the atlas joint, where the head and neck join. Bending of a horse is achieved through the cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions, (neck, back and pelvis) bending around the inside leg and following the line of the circle. Poles! I love poles and doing them on the lunge is just another fantastic way to utilise this fantastic exercise. You can see the lift you get through the back and the engagement of the core muscles. This again is fantastic for young horses particularly before being backed as it helps them really strengthen the muscles needed to carry the riders weight. Overall these are only 2 of the exercises I use when lunging but the list of what you can do is vast. Introduce some lunging into your routine and see for yourself the benefits! Below is a picture of a mare I worked and the difference in just 10 days. Only a hand full of small sessions and she improved greatly.
03.01.2022 A tired horse is a happy horse... No. A tired horse is not a happy horse, but a compliant horse through exhaustion. ... This is a saying I hear often and one I wish would be done away with. Is there any sayings you have heard that make you question?
02.01.2022 GO! Do you want to get fit? Me, I can’t jog more than 25 metres without losing the will to live. But give me a horse at the other end of the lunge rope and a fe...w interesting training objectives, and I can run around quite happily for ages! Instead of handing over your hard-earned cash to a gym, why not get serious about lunging? When you really move the horse about the arena, you have to move too. Particularly if you are asking your horse to trot or canter with good activity on a straight line. I recently had one of those routine medical checkups, and after taking my heart rate and blood pressure, the nurse politely asked a few questions to find out whether I was about to fall into a coma. When she was satisfied that I wasn’t about to expire, she said Wow, what do you do to be so fit? I told her I kept horses. There’s all the weight lifting trying to get the horse food and horse poo where it needs to be a process that is never-ending, because it’s NEVER where it should be for very long. Then there’s riding. But for the purposes of getting the human fit, I don’t think there’s anything more effective than proper, active lunging. It’s good for the horse, too, to freely move without the constraint of carrying the human. The handler can really fine tune the horse’s understanding and obedience to voice aids and body positioning. But more than that, with good quality lunging the horse and rider develop their shared understanding and ability to work together. After a good lunging session, I feel that both horse and rider share a satisfaction that has something to do with standing on the same ground, able to freely look at each other. Groundwork creates heightened communication, which can be transferred very well to the saddle. Groundwork also means that the human has to move! Here are some pictures of the human students of the Ecole de Légèreté showing either good engagement, or a good length of stride. It’s only fair if we want the horse to move, that we be prepared to show them how it’s done! Do you have a good action shot of lunging? If so, please share it in the comments.
