23.01.2022 Not long to go until the Preston Valley Trail kicks off on 7th & 8th November. Much loved mixed media artists Denise Gillies and Lynne Mitchell will be at Thomson Brook Estate at 131 Thomson Road, Donnybrook. Denise and Lynne often work collaboratively creating unique hand made prints which they recreate as scarves, bags, cushion covers as well as gorgeous jewellery. 22.01.2022 Say hello to the ROPES Boys, the ‘Retired Old Primary Educators Shed’ guys who will be at the Yabberup Hall for the Trail. Ric, Peter, Greg and Al are recently retired mates who have collectively spent about 150 years as Principals and teachers all over WA. Every week they meet in Al’s shed and learn new skills working recycled timber. All timber used is recycled otherwise deemed not good enough. It was destined for the scrap. As passionate public school educators, they ha...ve all dealt with students who believed that they were not good enough. But like this timber, they needed a little care, a person who could see potential, patience and a little polish. Our work demonstrates that an outcast deemed not good enough can shine when the right people get involved. ROPES will have cheese boards, serving platters, turned jarrah fence post vases, quirky scent pot cows from turned banksia, resin inlayed tables and Lazy Susans, which we call Lazy Mongrels. 06.01.2022 Hi there I’m Cynthia Dix, painter, printmaker and sometimes ceramicist and occassional publicist (yes... all these posts have been coming from me.) Last year I had my own studio open but as that couldn’t happen this year, I feel very fortunate to be hosted by Sally Young at her studio 2ks east of the Mumballup Tavern. We will be joined by brilliant glass artist Heather Elliot Smith and metal artist Bob Turne. As one of the organisers of the trail so I’ve had the pleasure of... dealing with almost all of the talented participants in the trail. Many of the working artists like myself have had events cancelled due to COVID which otherwise would have made income for us. So your visits to all the sites along the trail will be a big boost to us all artists, craftspeople and boutique businesses and wineries. There’s so much to see and do. It’s going to be a great weekend. Looking forward to seeing you on the Trail.
