23.01.2022 2021 PLAYER ANNOUNCEMENT THE YOUNG GUNS Jacob Talevski We are pleased to announce the re-signing of hard nosed defender Jacob Talevski. ... Jacob came to Preston at the start of 2020 from Heidelberg. A rugged central defender, Jacob has also played as a defensive midfielder. He prides himself on his hard work, ability to win the ball and use his physical presence. Jacob showed his tenacity in the Maso Cup in Sydney, put simply in the air or on the ground he doesn’t take a back step in his efforts to win the ball. In a strange way 2020 has given Jacob the time to get over some niggles before he makes his mark in the Preston guernsey. 21.01.2022 JUNIORS UPDATE Dear Parents/Carers Firstly and most importantly we hope that all of our families and friends are safe and well. The last few months have been challenging for all of us but due to the efforts of everyone within our community and state we are now starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. With the restrictions slowly easing over the next few weeks and months we are hopeful we can get back to playing and watching football in the near future.... Throughout the year and lockdown period the club has been monitoring the guidelines and advice provided by Football Victoria. On Tuesday Football Victoria announced that all football has been cancelled for the 2020 season. Although it is unfortunate we will not be able to play any competitive football in 2020 the decision allows the club to start focusing on the 2021 season. The planning has already begun and the club is looking forward to working with players, parents and the wider community as we prepare for next season. Over the next week parents will receive an individualised email that will contain information relating to the fee structure for the 2020 season and what it means for 2021. There will also be information relating to player engagement and the clubs plans for the future. Although 2020 has been a tough year without any football being played the club is excited about the journey ahead and would like to thank all of the coaches, managers and support staff that assisted throughout the year as well as all the players, parents and families for being part of the club. In line with providing regular updates, this communication relates to our participation in the AAFC meeting held on the 25 August, where more than 60 clubs from around the country were represented.... Subsequent to this meeting, AAFC issued a range of objectives, terms and conditions for the formation of a NSD Partner Group to progress the NSD concept. The Executive Committee has considered and endorsed the formation of this Group as a fantastic opportunity for the Club to engage in the next phase of the process and to contribute to the development of a compelling proposal for a NSD to go to the FFA Board in April/May 2021. 07.01.2022 LIONS TO TACKLE WESTERN UNITED IN FRIDAY NIGHT CLASSIC AT THE LIONS DEN By Janakan Seemampillai Preston Lions tackle Western United in what promises to be an exciting top of the table clash on Friday night at Genis Steel Stadium.... The match is Western United’s home game but will be played at the Lions Den, as the two remaining unbeaten sides in NPL3 face off in what is the game of the season so far. The Lions are four points ahead of second placed Western United ,and go into the game on the back of a 2-0 win over Box Hill United last Friday night in front of a bumper home crowd of over 2700 people. A first half strike from boom signing Terence Carter plus a second half penalty from Chris Davies saw Louie Acevski’s team maintain their impressive start to the season. Preston started strongly and had the Box Hill defence on the backfoot. After missing some chances early the Lions took the lead in the 13th minute after Box Hill failed to clear a corner, with the ball ending up with Jamie Percevski on the left who delivered a peach of a cross that found Carter who headed home. The game was fought hard thereafter with both sides having chances, especially Preston. The Lions probably should have had more to show for their efforts. The second half was much of the same until the 71st minute when Lions skipper Benji Lyvidikos won a penalty. Davies stepped up to tuck away the penalty to give Preston some breathing space. It was the star strikers sixth goal of the 2021 season. The Lions eventually held on for the win to maintain their unbeaten run. Western United go into the game on the back of a 2-1 win away to Springvale White Eagles. First half goals from Ayom Majok and Manyluak Aguek was enough to see off the White Eagles. Majok, Aguek and Nicolas Milanovic have netted 14 goals between them this season for Western United and will keep Preston busy on Friday night. Kick-off is at 8.30pm at Genis Steel Stadium.
