23.01.2022 A big thank you to those who made orders over the weekend for my BACK TO WORK sale! I’m grateful for any support but it’s these orders that mean I can keep doing what I’m doing. I adore this happy little boy of ours and all the joy he brings but becoming a mum brings with it so many changes. I’m sure I’ve learnt more about myself in the last year than I have in my life. Being a mum involves so much self-sacrifice that at times I’ve missed the freedom I once enjoyed. ...But one of the things that has been a big help to me is to be able to get back into doing something that I love, something for me. Something that allows me to do something for myself but still spend lots of time with my little mate. I’m no expert but for a few years I worked as a designer and did a little styling for Real Living magazine and Australian House & Garden magazine... so here goes: * Please, please, ple...ase, if you can afford it, buy a good quality frame for your artwork, not just for the purpose of display and aesthetics but to protect your artwork, and make sure you hang it properly and securely! * If you place your artwork on a wall over a cabinet or unit like this add a little depth and interest with a nice vignette (that’s the display of objects on the cabinet here) * Always display objects in odd numbers, vary their height and texture and never in a line up, always in a cluster or grouping as they are here to create depth. * Use sentimental pieces, things that are useful to every day life and that have a story. After a couple of weeks ticking things off a list of things to do before baby comes, I spent a couple of hours swimming and walking on the beach with this fur baby of ours... and it was bliss! And now I’m realising that I need to take more time to do things like this while we wait. 16.01.2022 I’m here! Well I’ve been here for almost a month now! Isaac Asher Mulholland, 6032020 Isaac meaning laughter and Asher meaning happy, and I am my name! Baby boy has been smiling for a week now and it’s the best feeling in the world (see my stories for this morning’s smiles!)... I’ve been a little more quiet than I’d hoped to be on here while I adjust to being a mum. Although he was born big, Issy boy dropped a little too much weight after birth because my milk supply was low, so it has felt like a full time job just feeding, pumping and top ups to get my milk going and make sure he’s healthy... I feel like a these days! But I miss painting, and with self isolation I would have loved to have posted some painting and lettering videos to inspire you to try at home. Perhaps once we’re more settled I’ll have some time for those! 13.01.2022 Let’s talk FRAMING! I get a lot of people asking for advice on frames, and I recommend investing in something that’s good quality. If you buy cheap, you buy twice (or maybe even thrice!). There’s a big difference in the quality of materials and craftsmanship between a professional framing service and a cheap, ready-made frame. For example, a professional framer will use local solid wood to hand-make their frames and a museum grade UV acrylic front to protect your pri...nt. Whereas an A1 mass-produced poster frame from a large, budget-friendly store isn’t made from solid wood, rather a much cheaper alternative, usually with a wood-look, white or black sticker wrap, and a cheap, thin acrylic front that may warp or bow over time. Obviously professional framing is a bit of an investment so there are alternatives that sit in between the two above, budget-wise. My favourite is Country Road, and in particular their natural frame made of Rubber Wood and with a solid acrylic front. 04.01.2022 This female will give birth only once every 2 or 3 years so each baby blue is extremely precious... Mother shelters her with protective fin. They caress one another, cherishing their close bond. David Attenborough I’ve been watching the Our Planet series while I feed and obviously my favourite episodes are Coastal Seas and The High Seas. Watching mamas and their babies in the animal kingdom, they just seem to have it down pat! I doubt they get warned about ...sleep deprivation, milk supply issues or sore nipples. It all comes so naturally. Friends reassured me that a lot of this mum thing is instinct, but I think I’m still waiting for that to kick in, hopefully that comes with more practice. 03.01.2022 I’ve been hiding away in here all day with the fan on high and the AC pumping sweet cold air (my fridgey husband will probably tell me that that’s not how AC works!), and my feet up with ice packs to avoid fat feet and cankles! Pregnancy is so glamorous! Most days I push through the heat and enjoy a late afternoon swim at the beach with our Bella to cool down, but today I just couldn’t hack it! Waking up to 30 degrees and ending the night at 30 degrees became too mu...ch for this heavily pregnant mum!
