25.01.2022 Hi Guys, The kitchen here is now open for an early lunch and will stay open all day until 10pm. Same rules apply, so come in for a beer and a feed. A Joey asked his mum why it's raining as they were hopping through Pretty Pine. She replied to give the farmers a break and a chance to go to the pub.

25.01.2022 Hi Guys, Just letting you know that Denise is back at the pub today. She will be doing take away food with a limited menu of Pizza, Wings and Fish and chips. You will need to ring your order through and only 1 person can come in to collect and pay. You cannot have a drink in the bar and wait. This will be for tonight and tomorrow night from 5 til 8.30. We will reassess next week depending on demand and changes to the laws. I hope you have all had the 27mm we have had up here ...or more and I hope it is a great cropping season for all. Hopefully this is over by harvest and we can party at the Pine again. You wont believe it but after 2 weeks of isolation Denise has told me to blink quietly. See more

24.01.2022 PUB SORT OF OPEN Hi Guys, Tomorrow night is the blockbuster preliminary final rematch between Geelong and Richmond. OOps that has been cancelled. We cannot watch the footy, but Denise and I can finally serve you more than take away. The dining room will be open Friday night, Saturday and Sunday all day.... Our rules are dinner and drinks only, sitting in the dining room. Max 2 hrs stay, and table service only. Dont worry I have done you beaut table service when we sold beef/gravy rolls at the Mangalore air show. You can still order take away food and we are introducing our buffalo chicken pizza for the occasion. We ask you all to book tables so that we can control numbers. We want to have sittings at 5.30, 7.30 and 9.30. Please Book. We will work out what we do next week after this weekend. So any way, back to the reason you are reading my post. This Yankie bloke lands at Sydney airport, gets into a cab and wants a tour of the city. The cabby takes him towards the city and he asks what that space needle is and how long it took to build he says it's centerepoint tower and it took 1 year. He replied we could have built that in the states in 6 months. They drive north through the tunnel and he asks how long it took to build , and he says 2 1/2 years he says in America we would have built that in 1 year. They turn back to the city and cross the bridge and he says what is this, he says it's Sydney harbour bridge and it took 3 years to build. He says in the USA we would have built this in 18 months. They get over the crest of the bridge and he sees the opera house and asks whats that. The cabbie replies i don't know, it wasn't there yesterday See more

22.01.2022 MUNGO: OTHER WORLDLY ANCIENT, DRAMATIC, MIND BLOWING So you’ve decided you’re ready for an epic road trip that is beyond the usual weekend escap...es, and you’re keen for a real adventure into the somewhat unknown. But where to go? Yes, you could hit one of the many lush green national parks that abound throughout NSW. Or, if you’re looking for an extra special and incredibly unique location that is most certainly away from the crowds, then look no further than a detour off the Long Paddock to the ancient Mungo National Park! Mungo National Park is so unlike anywhere else in Australia you could be forgiven for thinking you’ve arrived on Mars The must-see spots are located on the outskirts of the waterless and ancient Mungo Lake that sits within the national park and is part of the greater Willandra Lakes Region World Heritage Area. The lake has actually not contained water for around 18,000 years. Needless to say, leave the swimsuit and inflatable flamingos at home for this one The park is home to Mungo Lady (also called Mungo Woman) and Mungo Man, which are said to be the most significant human remains ever discovered in Australia. At 42,000 years old, these burials are some of the oldest remains of modern humans and are some of the oldest remains of modern humans found outside of Africa. Mungo Lady and Mungo Man are particularly special to their Aboriginal descendants who still live around the Willandra Lakes area. Today the three traditional owner groups the Paakantji,Ngiyampaa and Mutthi Mutthi share their Country with visitors of Mungo National Park. One of the world's very special places. The global importance of the Willandra Lakes was recognised in 1981 when the region was added to the World Heritage List. It was one of the first Australian World Heritage sites. By 2010 Australia had 17 world heritage places, but Willandra is one of only four that are listed for both their natural and their cultural values. The others are Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, the Tasmanian Wilderness and Kakadu National Park. Remote enough to give any adventurer a sense of escape the park is also family-friendly and filled with plenty of activities. INCREDIBLE CAPTURES You know those incredible Australian red earthy colours you’ve seen on travel shows? Yep, you’ll find those here too. Australia has some of the most diverse and unique wildlife in the world. You’ll see a lot of them hopping, running and flying about. Did someone mention emu crossings? The photographic opportunities here are endless. Guaranteed to be unlike anything your family and friends have ever seen! FANCY SOME EPIC DUNE ACTION? Move over Stockton, there’s a new dune in town. There are very few places in NSW where you can find enormous windblown sand dunes, and even fewer that allow you to walk along them. Vigars Well is the one place in the park where you will truly feel like you are in another world. You’ll find an abundance of wildlife here, all converging at the wells for a much needed thirst quencher. Pink cockatoos, kangaroos and emus to name a few all frequent here END YOUR DAY AT THIS INCREDIBLE SPOT A sunset Walls of China guided tour with a local tour operator cannot be missed. Simply put, this is the only area in the main section of the park where you can walk amongst the Walls themselves. Pair that with some incredible local knowledge of the area and you’re in for a real treat. STAY THE NIGHT If you want to stay overnight, there are many campgrounds, as well as budget accommodation in the historic Mungo Shearer’s Quarters or modern cabins at Mungo Lodge. Here you will be rewarded with mild temperatures and silence like you can only dream of! The Long Paddock provides access to an amazing variety of national parks and it’s fair to say, a detour to Mungo is definitely one for the bucket list! For everything Mungo (history, blogs, activities, places to stay, what to bring etc) check out: https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au///mungo-national-park

GO CATS!!!

20.01.2022 What a wonderful part of the world we live in

19.01.2022 Hi Guys, Good news, we are both still alive but even better news is that Denise will be at the pub for the next 3 nights to cook up some yummies for you all (Take Away only). The bar will not be open. While you are at home isolating you can try to think of a way to explain to your grandkids how a bloke eating bat soup in China led to a toilet paper crisis in Australia.

18.01.2022 Hi Guys, it's me again and Go Cats. The Grand Final is on at 7.30 Saturday (Go Cats) and we will have TV's set up in the bar, pool room and Beer Garden weather permitting. I may or may not be putting up some blue and white decorations but I will allow weirdos to provide alternative colours. We will have the footy tips counted at 4pm followed by a goal kicking event. Dinner will be available from 5pm and if you order wings before 7pm the deal will be order 10 ($10) and get 15.... We all want to see a good game like in 2007 so wear your colours and get behind the Cats. If we watch the Cats singing "we are Geelong" at the end of the game I will shout the bar. I hope to see lots of you at Pretty Pine for what will be a great night (for some). I forgot to say Go CATTERS so Go Cats. Remember that social distancing, signing in and sitting down still applies. Go Cats and see you all on Saturday. GO CATTTTTTTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS - I am a Geelong Supporter See more

15.01.2022 Hi Guys, we are open this weekend to see how things go. It's no grog but lots of yummies from the house of Denise. She is not an Asian stripper but she is a bloody good chef. Matt Preston would not even let her onto MKR because it would be unfair. Come down and get take away and we will deliver anywhere on Landale St. Up here this bloke gave a presentation on inner health and the power of the mind in the healing process. It was so boring that even the guy in the wheelchair walked out.

14.01.2022 Great cat with a gorgeous little girl !! Thanks for dropping in

14.01.2022 Hi Guys, We will be doing Take Away food again for the next 3 nights. Some say that wearing a mask is as effective at blocking the virus as your underpants are at blocking the smell of your farts, Others have said that drinking or injecting hand sanitiser will cure it This is not true but what is true is that getting your food takeaway from the pub will definitely cure your hunger. Make sure you ring ahead - 5882 3564 Cheers

14.01.2022 Hi Guys, After about 6 months Jip is leaving tomorrow. That means that if you want to say goodbye to our Yippi di do day come down for a drink tomorrow night. You can also meet Dave who is taking over his role. We wish Jip all the best on his travels. For those of you that know Jip you will realise that Jesus was not born in the Netherlands because they couldn't find 3 wise men or a virgin.... See you tomorrow. See more

13.01.2022 When you are driving past Pretty Pine Hotel stop in and have some refreshments !

13.01.2022 Stop at The Pine and see the Smoko installation on the "Way to Hay"Drop in for one cold beer as well

12.01.2022 Hi Guys, Yes it's on again for the next 3 nights. Yummies from Denise! If it was April 1st my joke would be that the pub was open, but it unfortunately is still closed. Please ring your orders through. There is a big meeting today to discuss exit strategies and lets hope that Gladys puts reopening pubs at the top of the list. There was an old lady in church. She whispers to her husband that she had just done a silent fart and asks what she should do. The husband replies that she should get a new hearing aid.

11.01.2022 If you are driving by and stop to take a snap of The Smoko -drop in for a refreshment or two .

10.01.2022 G'day Guys. I know that we had a bit of rain last night and that more is expected today. As a result we will open the pub all day. The kitchen will be open from 12.00 til 10.00. Remember we are still on a 10 person limit and a 2 hr limit enforceable by me. Please ring and book so we can control numbers. I hope to see you here.

07.01.2022 PRETTY DARN FINE: PRETTY PINE WILDFLOWERS, DROVERS, RIVER FUN The beauty of Pretty Pine is that you feel a million miles away... when you’re act...ually only 20 minutes from the bustling rural centre of Deniliquin. Originally called the junction due to its location at the junction of the Hay and Moulamein roads, it was later renamed like many of the historic villages of the Long Paddock. The name Pretty Pine, is attributed to Judge Francis of the Deniliquin and Hay Court, who would often stop the coach there in the early 1860s to exercise and admire a large pine tree of very symmetrical proportions situated close to where Holloway later built his hotel. In later years an old and very large pine trunk (assumed to be that same tree), with a few limbs still alive, was situated at the end of Landale Street at the hotel. Although the trunk later burnt out and is no longer here, when you pull up a pew at the hotel there’s a very good chance you’ll meet one of the many present-day Landale’s after which the hotel’s street is named. SO WHAT’S THERE TO DO IN PRETTY PINE? A stop at the Pretty Pine Hotel should be at the top of your list! Besides the standout hospitality, cool refreshments and hearty meals, this is where you’ll find one of our large scale sculpture art installations - Smoko by Geoff Hocking. It’s also home to 1 of the 47 information panels dotted along the route, which tell the stories of both the artworks and the communities they are based in. Tucked away from the main road, yet only a short distance to the Pretty Pine Hotel, you’ll find the local recreation reserve. With a beautiful community hall, manicured lawns, a football field complete with cricket pitch and a children’s playground, it’s a great spot to take the family for a day out. Time your visit right and you might get to see all the action of a camp drafting, cutting or polo cross horse competition at the equine area of the reserve. Adjoining the reserve is also a place that the present-day Drover’s use to pen up their stock of an evening. Watching up to a thousand head of cattle be gently guided by the drover is a sight to behold. Think stockmen on horses, working dogs, dust rising from the hooves of the mob and epic sunsets over the plains. This is a true Australian experience and one you’ll not forget in a hurry. Nearby is the mighty Edward River. Lined with ancient river red gums and home to a diverse range of wildlife (bird watchers love this place!), it’s a popular spot to cast a line, take a dip or launch the boat for a waterski or day fishing on the water. Particularly popular at the moment is wildflower season. Make sure you bring your camera, not only are the sunsets across the plains spectacular but the wildflowers are impressive this season. The photo opp’s are endless! In short, pretty darn fine is this little place called Pretty Pine. Worth a stop that’s for sure .... Photos by Forest Media / Em Crameri Photography and others.

07.01.2022 Hi Guys A farmer gets his wife to do the lawns on the ride on, she comes back 10 mins later and tells him she cant keep mowing because there is water in the carburetor, he says that she wouldn't even know what a carby is or does and wouldn't even know where it is. he says I will go and check it out, where is the ride on, she says in the swimming pool. BTW we will both be at the pub doing take away meals for the next 3 days. Hope to see you over the weekend. Cheers

07.01.2022 Hi Guys, Don't forget that we are open for take away food again tonight. Denise thinks my jokes are crap so I will change things for today. We can do Geelong trivia! There are 10 players that played in 3 premierships for Geelong this century. You need to name them (If you are a true footy fan you will not google the answer) I hope you go to the pub, pick up your meals and give Denise your answers. BTW this covid thing is all about 17 teams not wanting to face the cats this ye...ar. GO CATS!!!!! See more

07.01.2022 Hi Guys it's me again. Just letting you know that tomorrow night the football will be on in the pub and we will even allow Richmond supporters in (YUK). In true Geelong supporter niceness (Go Cats) I will buy your first drink if you wear a footy jumper. A tiger says to a cat i'm a tiger and the cat says no you are a cat. He says I have stripes and the cat says so does a cat. He says I can climb trees and the cat says so can a cat. He says I am bigger and stronger that you. The cat says bullshit - I will prove it at Pretty pine on Friday night. GO CATS

06.01.2022 Hi Guys, We are open again for 10 at a time this weekend. Please book. For now will still be closed Monday and Tuesday. Next week to celebrate the new 50 person rule we will have comedy in the pub on Saturday night. You will need to book ASAP to be part of the 50. Apparently this bloke tells funnier jokes than I do.

04.01.2022 Hi Guys, My mother was a theology teacher which is why I am so religious and speak Latin. The Latin word Tues means race and that is why the Latinos who settled our country in 1896 chose to run the Melbourne cup on a Tuesday. It is also why the US Presidential race is on the same day. We will be celebrating the cup at the pub and if you want a winning trifecta my tip is that it is the 1st Tuesday, held on the 3rd in 2020 so my inside knowledge says 1, 3, 20. The Latin word We...dnes means original state and so on Wednesday we will have the state of origin here as well. Big screen for both so come along and enjoy the Pine. See you all over the next few days. Cheers Twang and Denise. See more
