23.01.2022 November 15th I shared a photo of some finished sugar flowers. Those were to go on a cake for a lovely lady (a dear friend) who’s husband had planned the surprise for the 17th Nov. I’d agreed to do a cake after ages Crohn’s hadn’t been kind lately and constant illness and exhaustion made it impossible to take on work. The cakes were baked, icing ready, flowers dusted and steamed and waiting to go on the cake. Night of the 16th I decided to take a bath to freshen up and fin...ish the cake by 10.30pm (usually it’s an all nighter ) I was motivated as everything looked good and excited that I would go to bed on time and satisfied. The sleep never happened. I slipped in the bath and tried to break the fall by hanging on to the basin dislocated my right shoulder and fractured the bone around the socket; rushed to ER and was admitted for the night... was put under anaesthetic so the docs could put shoulder back in. Let’s not go into details about how I bawled like a baby when eight of them surrounded me and I thought they were going to put the shoulder back in WHILE I WAS AWAKE I begged and whimpered and did other embarrassing things including calling the head guy an ass and refusing to tell him my business name because I know you’re trying to distract me while you stick it back in like the movies. Or how since I fell while IN the bath and was consequently nude... I paraded around Base ER in an ugly elephant-grey dressing gown with nothing underneath except a poking out shoulder ... having future baths in my swimwear I’ve decided. So. Next morning once I came back home... I finished the cake. Standing on a stool because I couldn’t extend my arm, husband helping with warming buttercream (destroyed a batch because he wouldn’t do it in 10 second intervals resulting in me losing my temper and jerking my shoulder resulting in me crying. He got it after that ) And this was the cake. Thanks if you actually read through that. Just wanted to talk. Hope everyone’s doing fine. Please use anti-slip mats in baths. I’ll take natural childbirth 5 times over a broken shoulder. Because now physio is a ... pain.

19.01.2022 Hello, First off Thankyou to everyone who’s been writing in with inquiries. I appreciate your continued interest in my baking and art - whether it’s new clients or returning patrons. Second, I’d like to apologise for delayed responses to emails, late invoices and some last minute cancellations. For those who might not know I have intensely active Crohns, got diagnosed with gastritis in March, have developed lactose intolerance and seems pretty certain I might be coeliac ...too. I’ve lost 11 kgs (24.2 pounds) since November 2018. At 5 feet tall, i am now 46.5 kgs. I can’t have milk products, bread, fruits are setting me off and anything I eat just makes the Crohns hurt. I am terrified of food. So I’m either constantly hungry and the acid then makes the ulcers burn. Or I eat and I get sick and the ulcers hurt. The constant pain and consequent lack of sleep have me exhausted. I am absolutely depleted. I’ve been trying to make your cakes ... but I can’t find the fight or the creativity. My brain due to health and other personal stuff just seems to have died. I need to take a break. I don’t know if my business will survive these breaks and I can’t even think about it. I’m sorry for the disappointment.. Something needs to give - personally or health wise - and atm I don’t know where to start. Maybe be back sometime. Tina

15.01.2022 The long wait ... for this beauty. Bottom tier Jaffa (orange butter cake with homemade marmalade), top tier Simply Simone (vanilla bean) paired with strawberry conserves. Both tiers filled and iced with silky vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream and decorated with all hand-piped blooms. Ps. Blooms match the bridal bouquet

Her classes on Craftsy are great value - repeat value even - and her book is beautiful, informative and extremely handy. This tip is a gold mine as well. Itching to get to making flowers again...
