25.01.2022 Every year on November 20 we recognise Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), and the end of Trans Awareness Week. This is an important day to remember and honour the lives lost to transphobic violence. In 2020, around the world 350 people are reported to have been murdered by transphobic violence, the vast majority were trans women of colour in the US, Brazil and Mexico. To quote Transcend "With great respect we remember all those beautiful souls who have been murdered beca...use they are trans. They were human beings, with families, friends, communities, children. They had important dreams and hopes for themselves. They had sorrows and triumphs. They loved and were/are worthy of dignity, respect, love, kindness, warmth, generosity, belonging". We hope everyone can take the time to remember the lives that are lost, and hope for a future where trans and gender diverse people can feel safe in the streets and in their homes. To participate in an online event for TDOR head over to here for more info: Transgender Day of Remembrance Online (Friday 20 November, 7pm): https://www.facebook.com/events/831246300955954/

25.01.2022 This week is National Homelessness week. In Australia - it is believed that LGBTIQ people are twice as likely to experience being homeless compared to the general population. LGBTIQ people are also more likely to experience family rejection to drive homelessness, more likely to experience homelessness at a young age, and more likely to be victimised while being homeless. At the moment, there isnt a lot of research into LGBTIQ homelessness, however there are some great projec...ts leading the way. To find out more info, head over to http://www.lgbtihomeless.org.au and read their report or head over to the Everybodys Home to find out more info about the homelessness crisis in Australia. Everybody has a right to have a home that is affordable, safe and secure - especially now during the coronavirus pandemic. #NationalHomelessnessWeek #LGBTIQHomelessresearch

23.01.2022 Today is International Coming Out day #ComingOut2020 This day is celebrated every year to acknowledge that coming out as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Gender diverse, Intersex and Queer is STILL a big deal. ... Many people don’t get a chance to come out, for fear of their own safety and wellbeing. This may even be the case for people having to self isolate with family during COVID-19. Pride in Water would also like to acknowledge the many people before us that have risked their lives to come out, and that have bravely paved the way to fight for equality for LGBTIQ+ people. If you would like to support someone in your life, or you would like to find support for yourself - these are some great resources from Minus18 and the The Trevor Project on #comingout https://www.minus18.org.au/articles/tips-for-coming-out https://www.thetrevorproject.org/trvr_support_c/coming-out/ For support, reach out to QLife Australia - the free LGBTIQ+ peer to peer support service https://qlife.org.au In Victoria, you can contact the free LGBTIQA+ support service from Switchboard Victoria https://www.rainbowdoor.org.au #comingoutday #beproud #lgbtiq

22.01.2022 We love this post by @abcqueer and wanted to share it with you. Happy Mother’s / Parents / Carers Day Caption below from original post: Repost from @abcqueer... Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums, mother figures and fierce queer parents We also understand days like today can be hard for queer folks whose mothers aren’t part of their lives, and we’re sending love to you too Image description: A variety of coloured backgrounds with the text: TODAY WE HONOUR OUR MOTHERS We honour the lesbian mothers, the bi mothers, the queer mothers. We honour the trans mothers, the nonbinary mothers, the gender noncomforming mothers, the mothers who identify with no gender at all. We honour the disabled mothers, the chronically ill mothers, the HIV positive mothers. We honour the queer fathers who take on maternal roles, the grandmothers who act as matriarchs, we honour the siblings who mother the motherless, we honour those whose mothers have passed or who don’t have mothers at all. We honour the single mothers, poor mothers, mothers who come from adversity, mothers who do their best to get food on the table and care for their children. We honour those who've experienced infertility, miscarriage or other barriers to motherhood for whom Mother's Day is a struggle. Give love to your mother and those you love today and every day. #MothersDay #EveryMother #WeHonourMothers #Mother #Mum #queer #bi #trans #GenderNonConforming See more

18.01.2022 NEWS: A powerful article from former Wallabies prop Dan Palmer - sharing how hiding his sexuality put him in a downward spiral, and why he hopes coming out will help others confronting the same struggle. It sickens me to know that in the year 2020 there are still people torturing themselves the way I was, both in and out of sport we need to be better. If this piece can prompt a conversation, make space for people to feel more comfortable being themselves, or can help some...one better understand what a loved one may be going through, it will have been a success. 02.01.2022 But, of course, a before and an after doesnt exist. Transitioning isnt a phoenix rising from the ashes but an incremental shedding of skins.
