25.01.2022 Congratulations to Amy and Nikki, the 4th and 5th PKC Level 1 Certificates awarded this week Both of these strong women aren't far off the Level 2 'Instructor' standards either! If you've been following their progress, you'll have seen them lifting some very impressive weights!! Keep up boys ... Well done!

25.01.2022 Dr Brad Schoenfeld (PhD) @BradSchoenfeld interviewed for Time Magazine on benefits of resistance training - the fountain of youth. "Modern exercise science shows that working with weights - whether that weight is a light dumbbell or your own body - may be the best exercise for lifelong physical function and fitness." http://time.com/4803697/bodybuilding-strength-training/

23.01.2022 We are frequently asked questions about kettlebells and weight loss. As much as we would like to be able to say that training with us will shed kilos, that's not how it works. Have a listen to Ben
23.01.2022 Dr Ashlie and I set up the PRIDE Kettlebell Certification (PKC) when we opened PRIDE Physiotherapy in 2015 because we wanted to uphold the standards of the SFG and the RKC. Our clinical practice, rehabilitation methods and training programs revolve around the principles and practices of hardstyle kettlebell training, albeit with a clinical perspective. We wanted a formal means to recognise peoples achievement in reaching a level of technical competency (skills) and physical ...capacity through their training with us, and so the PKC was born! PKC-1 is relatively easy to attain because it reflects skills rather than time spent training, yet still maintaining the standards of execution expected from the RKC & SFG. Below are the PKC-1 skills which must be performed with at least 50% snatch weight - 8kg+ for women and 12-16kg for men: 1 Swing - (a) two-hand, (b) single-hand, (c) alternating, (d) double 2 Clean - (a) single, (b) double 3 Press - (a) single, (b) double 4 Front squat - (a) single, (b) double 5 Goblet squat 6 Turkish Get-up 7 Arm-bar 8 Snatch Each of the 6 people who received the PKC-1 Certificates this week had reached and surpassed the standards some time ago! Here are some of their individual highlights James: 48kg single-arm swings Rosette: 36kg swings (shes 68!!) Amy S: 40kg swings (77% bodyweight) Nikki: 28kg Turkish get-up Amy L: 22kg snatch Troy: 40kg Turkish get-up We look forward to seeing many more PKC Level 1s this year and hopefully our first PKC Level 2 Instructors very soon! Neil, RKC
22.01.2022 Another class, another PB! We love Amy! She only trains with us once a week and drives for an hour with her 2yr old son to get to us at the Brickworks Centre in Southport, which we are so grateful for Amys a ray of sunshine! always happy and smiling with such a wonderfully positive attitude; a delight to have in the practice and to train with. Shes also incredibly determined and has consistently put in 100% effort since she started training with kettlebells last... year which is why she continues to do so well, nudging personal bests *every single week*! Heres a new PB in the Turkish get-up (22kg), the one exercise she disliked the most when she started. This was taken right at the end of a reasonably challenging class this morning (about 2500 -3000kg of swings, squats, presses and snatches in Amys case) and we havent trained heavy TGUs for weeks. Next week, Amy will be starting fresh and nailing the 24kg, which is the men's weight (Amy doesn't know that yet, so please ) Well done Amy, you're a bloody legend!! ps. Amy started off doing Turkish get-ups with only a shoe (balanced on the hand) just like everyone else. If you'd like to follow in her footsteps, call us! 07 5532 3298 and book in. www.pride.physio
22.01.2022 How many times have you heard this before? https://instagram.com/p/BUzBr0_DKZ2/ Chatting with a GP in training this morning and comparing notes , too many people expect their Dr or Physiotherapist to provide them with a 'fix' when the obvious long-term and most effective solution requires a change in lifestyle and behaviour.... It's often not easy to change ones habits and make choices to live a more active and healthier lifestyle, but perhaps the most important thing to remember is that we are each entirely responsible for how we chose to take care of the body we have. The sower may mistake and sow his peas crookedly: the peas make no mistake, but come up and show his line. -- Ralph Waldo Emerson While we are free to choose our actions, we are not free to choose the consequences of our actions. -- Stephen R. Covey It is our choices... that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities. -- J. K. Rowling One's philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes... and the choices we make are ultimately our responsibility. -- Eleanor Roosevelt Every person has free choice. Free to obey or disobey the Natural Laws. Your choice determines the consequences. Nobody ever did, or ever will, escape the consequences of his choices. -- Alfred A. Montapert I'm a big believer that your life is basically a sum of all the choices you make. The better your choices, the better opportunity to lead a happy life. -- Karen Salmansohn There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them. -- Denis Waitley

17.01.2022 Are you confused about healthy nutrition, the role of insulin, this concept of insulin resistance? Can one largely ignore a macronutrient (i.e. carbohydrates) and not drop dead within a few days? Karim Khan, the Editor in Chief of the BJSM vouches for this podcast personally and describes Dr Hallberg as one of the people that has most influenced his understanding of a key medical concept. 12.01.2022 Findings aren't often as blunt as this one - Less than 1 hr of weekly resistance exercise is associated with 29% lower risk of development of Metabolic Syndrome. That's just one class at PRIDE; imagine how much better off you'd be with two classes! Conclusion: Participating in resistance exercise, even less than 1 hour per week, was associated with a lower risk of development of Metabolic Syndrome, independent of aerobic exercise. Health professionals should recommend that ...patients perform resistance exercise along with aerobic exercise to reduce Metabolic Syndrome. 11.01.2022 Another piece on High Intensity Interval Training
10.01.2022 Not to be outdone by his super-strong wife Karen, heres 55yr old Peter annihilating his two-handed 5RM swing too. Peter had previously swung the 48kg Beast but the technique fell apart, so 44kg x 5 reps was the target to beat.... He did 25! ... Holy moly. It's a good job they're not professional lifters otherwise we'd have to call WADA and order an investigation
10.01.2022 Are you doing yours!?

08.01.2022 The world we live in is not what it used to be. The most recognisable Physiotherapy 'business' is a media company first and a medical practice (or consumer service) second.
07.01.2022 Another month, another Top 10 With the arrival of the Recovery Strategies pain guidebook from Dr Greg of the Lehman Initiative and Explain Pain Supercharged, Drs Lehman and Moseley remain firmly wedged into the top two spots together for June. An exciting climber (but a runner ) this month is 'The Running Physio' Tom Goom who has been going nuts sharing the love with regular Facebook Live chats and a series of podcasts on the Clinical Edge with David Pope. That deserves som...e public acknowledgement and a high-5, even though gives Neil hives. It's worth us pointing out that our Top 10 reflects our clinical biases, but also what we've actually seen. Ben Cormack for example has continued to pump out some great content but a lot of it missed our inbox last month, as have many of the great Facebook live broadcasts organised by Nils Oudhuis behind Trust me I'm a Physiotherapist page, all of which is clinical gold for those of us unable to attend some of the great conferences in person. With so much great material across difference platforms, it's impossible to catch or follow everything. Twitter for example is a wealth of information but receives less of our attention than Facebook. Perhaps we should have a 'bench' list of special mentions for people doing wonderful things for the profession but not making the list simply because they're not as visible like Nils, David and his fellow podcast hosts Karen, Gene, Cory & Sandy, JW, Antony, Dustin, Tim & Jeff etc. etc. Influencing and inspiring our clinical practice right now, here is PRIDE Physiotherapy's Top 10 list of favourite clinicians from around the globe for June 2017 (titles omitted) 1 Greg Lehman 2 Lorimer Moseley 3 Tom 'The Running Physio' Goom 4 Scotty Butcher 5 Peter O'Sullivan 6 Karim Kahn 7 Ben Cormack 8 Derek Griffin 9 Adam Meakins Gene Shirokobrod We thank you Fingers crossed we'll have some women in the Top 10 for July
07.01.2022 Yesterday, 59yr old Karen set two new PBs in the 07.15 class. Her previous best in the TGU was 16kg and she hasnt lifted that weight in the weeks since setting it. The first attempt at 18kg failed at the kneeling transition on the way down, but *she* asked to have another crack at it. With a shift in mental focus, she nailed it on both sides!! Looking at how solid it was, shell be lifting 20kg soon enough. Karens two-handed 5RM PB was 36kg. After the TGU, she then smashed... out **26** reps at 36kg!! That shouldnt happen! What an amazing achievement
06.01.2022 The customer is always right. Except when they're not.
06.01.2022 Humans generally don't have the luxury of being able to take up gymnastics later in life (60+) but like many forms of physical activity and exercise, if we start early and make engaging in regular exercise a habit, it's far easier to keep it and reap the benefits!! Like this http://www.aol.co.uk//91-year-old-gymnast-performs-flawl/

04.01.2022 Fitness. Physiotherapy. Same message. Is there *really* something 'wrong' with you?? One of our favourite accounts on Instagram ... https://instagram.com/p/BVDuNfdH_iF/
04.01.2022 Do you brush your teeth? ...of course! Why? ...because it's good for me and I need to... Do you enjoy it? ...not really. It's a habit. Apply the same logic with *exercise* and you can look forward to enjoying it once it becomes a habit!
03.01.2022 Brilliant! Our amazing nutritionist Jenny is going to *love* this!!
01.01.2022 "Whether it concerns a grandparent, a spouse, a relative, or ourselves, there will come a time when we all must deal with the aging process hands-on. How we prepare ourselves for this stage of life is important and can greatly impact our experience of it." Not everyone needs to squat heavy, but everyone needs to squat. - Pavel http://www.strongfirst.com/our-aging-population-opportunit/
