23.01.2022 This year, the Educator team have supported WAGEC, the Women and Girls Emergency Centre in Redfern as recipients of our charitable giving project. Once again, the POSHC teams generosity has been phenomenal and this week we got to meet the WAGEC crew and deliver the donations. They were delighted and grateful. WAGEC is a non-government, not-for-profit charitable organisation that delivers a range of crisis and early intervention accommodation and support services to women, c...hildren and young people, and families who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and domestic and family violence. We are committed to helping end homelessness by working holistically with our clients to find creative housing and support solutions, that meet their needs and empower them to take control of their own lives. Were the women listening to women. Were the women standing up for women. Were the women working for women. Were the women supporting women in crisis https://www.wagec.org.au/
22.01.2022 Art has been our focus this term. The themes we explored were based on the childrens interests, were an extension of activities we were doing at the centre, supported special events or responded to parent and carer suggestions. We thought widely and researched our ideas, coming up with themes that encouraged inclusion, focused on sustainability, our personal development and our community. Each exhibition was the subject of our regular centre meetings where the children dev...eloped ideas and curated the content including colour palettes, styles and the exhibition titles. It has been wonderful to see it evolve over the term and our parents loved seeing the finished product. Program topics included Spread your Wings, Guess Who, Up, Up & Away, Our Amazing Planets, Under the Sea, Wonderful Water Colours, Refugee Countries and Vivid Sydney Congratulations Loftus OSHC

21.01.2022 Great news! Yesterday the Government announced an Early Childhood Education and Care Relief Package to help families and care providers through the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This is fantastic news for us and for our families that need us the most. [Yesterdays] announcement goes a long way to ensuring we can continue to provide these services to the families who rely on us, and together with the JobKeeper payment will enable us to support our childcare workers through this difficult time. said Sinead Ryan, a spokesperson for the OSHC providers. 21.01.2022 Educators help children become connected, contributors to their world and we look for meaningful opportunities to encourage respectful curiosity. As children grow and develop, so does their awareness of the groups and communities around them. We encourage their understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation. Sydneys annual Mardi Gras Festival is a wonderful conduit through which to explore the themes of diversity and respect and this week several centres held lively discussions and created imaginative art and craft projects celebrating this cultural event.

21.01.2022 Did you know a group of butterflies is often referred to as a Kaleidoscope or a Flutter? These beautiful descriptors have inspired discussions about building mentally healthy communities. Using a craft project as the vehicle for exploring how relationships work, we were chatting about our understanding and feelings when dealing with conflict and challenge in relationships within our community. The Butterflies we were painting are a metaphor for the freedom we feel when we ...are safe, confident and included. Did you know? Mentally Healthy Communities are characterised by strong, supportive and inclusive relationships between those in that group. A Mentally Healthy Community allows everyone the opportunity to be themselves, achieving their best possible mental health. Since December, Primary OSHCare Educators have been attending professional development covering behaviour management using the Conscious Discipline program. The program has introduced our team to the notion that conflict in relationships from a small disagreement to targeted campaign - is usually the result of a dynamic between two children and not the responsibility of one party only. Working on this basis, we are discussing innovative strategies for supporting children who experience this and ways to redirect, recalibrate and support all parties. Conscious Discipline focuses on approaches for supporting children struggling to form positive and lasting connections. These strategies assist our Educator Teams in supporting every child in our care to feel secure, confident and included while ensuring the dignity and rights of all are maintained. The National Quality Framework for quality care encourages and guides OSHC programming. Read how the framework informs our practice in order to build safe, equitable and respectful relationships with children [https://www.acecqa.gov.au/] Find out more about strategies for managing relationships & find resources here National Centre Against Bullying https://www.ncab.org.au/ Conscious Discipline https://consciousdiscipline.com/ Office of the eSafety Commissioner https://www.esafety.gov.au/

Everyone agreed the the hard work and dedication the children have poured into their knitting was obvious. The children were very proud to show off their works of art and the parents have now started putting in their requests for Christmas!

20.01.2022 This one's for all the mums out there. Across all our services we hear incredible stories from your kids about the hard work and love you give them every day. Thank you for letting us be a part of their growth and education. Happy Mothers Day!
20.01.2022 Our focus on every day sustainability encourages awareness and respect for nature and the world around us. Our regular and intentional projects and discussions create moments where we can introduce themes and experiences that support our mission to care for the environment while supporting childrens commitment to environmental responsibility. We regularly teach by showing and use these opportunities to explain why care for the environment is so important.. SO we were deli...ghted when the children started discussing the Climate Action March and even more excited when we heard several of them were planning to join the protest last week. In preparation, the children spent time creating their big sign and have made fliers and posters to hang around the centre spreading awareness about environmental practices. Austin was keen to share his experience with us Today I went to my very first protest march. Firstly we started to march, there were some chants like WHAT DO WE WANT?! CLIMATE ACTION! and WHEN DO WE WANT IT?! NOW!. After that we heard some songs and a lot of speeches it was time to go marching again. When we were marching we had loads of pictures and videos and we even got on tv and a podcast which was so awesome! Austin 3E

18.01.2022 Another fantastic Bay Run, showcasing the amazing community spirit alive and kicking in inner Sydney. Congratulations to our friends at Dobroyd Point Public School for another sensational event. Well done to all our runners in the Primary OSHCare 2km challenge, you were so fast the BEE had no chance of catching you! Well done team POSH, you are amazing and to the Dobroyd community, thanks for including us once again.
18.01.2022 To mark Anzac Day 2019, the Kent Road OSHC crew encouraged the children and wider community to get busy creating poppies to contribute to the Poppy Project, an amazing installation that came to life over Sydneys week long Royal Easter Show. Over many weeks, the team worked tirelessly to help the children create these wonderful tributes which were collected and delivered to Sydney Olympic Park. The red poppies signify the soldiers who bravely served our country; white represents the nurses who helped our injured and dying men and purple is for the animals who died in the War. We love this, congratulations KROSHC and everyone who contributed...

09.01.2022 The holiday season has arrived! Happy Holidays to all our families and wonderful children. See you in 2021!
09.01.2022 This week we are shellabrating World Turtle Day. Turtles are world travellers, migrating long distances between feeding grounds and nesting sites. The East Australian Current is a turtle migration super highway, that includes a stopover in Sydney Harbour where the middle harbour seagrass paddocks are favourite places to eat. Marine turtles have lived in the oceans for over 100 million years and six of the worlds seven species of marine turtle occur on the Great Barrier R...eef. Australia is home to some of the largest nesting areas in the Indo-Pacific region. Just making it to the ocean can be a struggle for little hatchlings dodging predators like sea birds and the hungry larger fish that await them! Once there, pollution, changes to the habitat, snagging in fishing gear and the affects of plastic are having devastating effects. All Australian turtle species are on the World Conservation Union Red List of Threatened Animals. A national Recovery Plan for Marine Turtles in Australia was made between the NSW and Qld Environment Ministers in 2017. The Plan includes funding for research and details actions necessary to minimise threats and improve long term survival. Individually we can help turtles by making sure our rubbish doesnt end up in the sea and regularly taking part in clean up campaigns. Sydney Sea Scouts are working hard around the Harbour on clean up and observation activities and local councils provide ideas and projects for sustainable living such as the Two Hands, Thirty Minutes Campaign. Success isnt a big step taken in the future its the small steps we take today. http://www.gbrmpa.gov.au/the-reef/animals https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/ https://taronga.org.au/ http://www.environment.gov.au//recovery-plan-marine-turtle http://www.warringah.nsw.gov.au/file/14715

07.01.2022 School aged children all over Australia are pleading with government to get serious about the environment and national sustainable practices. At Baulkham Hills we are actively supporting the notion of reducing, reusing and recycling. Guided by the national quality framework, our sustainability project has helped us learn about meeting our current needs without infringing on the ability of future generations to meet their needs. We have been learning about the idea of indivi...dual responsibility for our choices and to do what we can, where we can. 07.01.2022 Today is Harmony Day, our national celebration of inclusion and diversity, also one of our favourite events at here at POSHC! At head office we marked the occasion with a feast, a quiz and lots of cheery banter. Across the Centres, Educators invited families to join the fun, we mapped our origins, dressed in national costumes and spent time telling stories and talking about our multicultural community. Our friends at Narragunnawali reminded us that Harmony Day is also the d...ay we recognise the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and National Close the Gap Day. One thing we all agree is how grateful we are to live in a country where inclusion and diversity are cherished. Let there be peace on earth... and let it begin with me. Happy Harmony Day people...
07.01.2022 "When every student has a voice, the possibilities are endless!" We are inspired by the 2019 Education Week themes of student voice and agency powered by authentic participation, learning partnerships, respectful relationships, community and change. We are loving the stories being shared from all over the state, in particular voices from Broken Hill speaking about remote learn. Follow the feed on twitter and the Ed Week site https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/education-week
05.01.2022 Wear it Purple celebrations have again been a focus this term, with centres supporting and celebrating inclusion and diversity. At Canterbury South, we came together to raise awareness and advocate for rainbow young people in our community. To grab everyones attention, the children dressed up the centre, made purple cupcakes, showed off purple nails and listened closely as one of our parents generously shared stories and ideas around the diverse nature of family life in Australia today. To successfully advocate for the children in our care - we build respectful and nurturing relationships that support families in their parenting role. We welcome every opportunity to collaborate with families, supporting the expertise, culture, values and beliefs that are the foundations of childrens wellbeing.

01.01.2022 Croydon Parks P&C welcome picnic was a great excuse for the community to get together. We caught up with old friends and made many new ones too. It was a glorious late summer evening and the children were kept busy with loads of activities to channel their creative energies! Yanni was loving the African Drumming and Dancing while Zeenat and her busy Educator team helped the children adorn themselves with face painting, henna and temporary tattoos. There were guessing comp...etitions and prize draws too. Once the children had visited the jumping castle and taken in lots of fresh air, there was Gelato! YUM.. This year, we have renewed our focus on children being, belonging and becoming at OSHC. The team have been attending programming training and we have reframed our emphasis on positive behavior. Our sport program is going off, with lots of children joining the skills coaching as well as contributing to our term focus activities on caring (for ourselves, the environment and the community). Our vision is a warm and secure space where children can be the best version of themselves, engaged and enjoying new experiences. We hope to see you in the centre soon!
