09.01.2022 A couple of fascinating whites from @grosjean.vins : 2019 Grosjean Petite Arvine Grown at 750m from Grosjean’s ‘Rovettaz’ vineyard, these are the last grapes to get harvested, usually around mid-October. Whole bunch fermentation in steel with occasionally batonnage to build light texture Once fermentation is complete, 30% is racked off into old barrique for 6 months, whilst the remaining juice spends time in steel until ready for bottling. This is a fascinating white wine, w...ith super aromatics and an abundance of high-toned citrus notes and high precise acidity. Packed with energy this is a white with loads of aging potential. 2019 Grosjean Muscat Petite Grain A particular selection of white Moscato that has always been cultivated in Aosta Valley. Coming from 2 vineyards located partly in the towns of Quart and Chambave. Quart, in the central/northern section of the valley, sits at 540m compared to Chambave at around 480, with the latter providing lean tropical and citrus notes and the Quart component adding the crisp acidity, drive, and quench. 02.01.2022 It’s always intriguing to hear about a new #barolo producer, and in recent years, there have been many, some you could argue don’t have the experience or real estate to produce a wine of quality MARGHERITA OTTO is not one of them. Originally from the U.S., Alan Manley made his first trip to the Langhe in the mid 90’s and caught the ‘Barolo bug’. Each year during the winter months he spent lengthy periods of time working with producers such as Elio Altare, Cavallotto, Sandr...one and Bartolo Mascarello - the later playing the largest influence in his wine making career where he honed his wine making skills. In 2011, he packed up his bags and moved to the region permanently. 02.01.2022 Big shout out to my wife. In 2016 with 2 very young children, she got a full time job with an awesome company to afford me the luxury of beginning the process to start Primavera Selections. She set up the entire back of house and has been involved with it since the beginning. All the while, being an amazing mother to our two kids (including holding a full time job and single mothering while I made regular visits to Italy), completed her WSET diploma within the 2 years, and by... all accounts did an amazing job at her previous company. She was supposed to start formally with our company in March. Instead, she needed to organise to get me out of Italy before it got locked down, COVID proof the business, and then help me find a way of selling enough wine to keep us afloat. She does most of our writing, newsletters, social media (except this one ) and she is a great salesperson. She knows more about Italian wine than most people reading this post, has an astute palate and is a passionate wine person, albeit a shy one at times. She has not been able to focus on the sales part because she has been home schooling our kids full time, running the back office and developing ties with interstate business again, all of which has seen us through this incredibly tough time. She will be out and about soon though, we hope. We are a great team, I value her opinion and her judgement and I couldn’t do any of this without her.
