25.01.2022 Hamstrings, very important, often overlooked. Strong, stable hamstrings play huge roles in all sorts of movements, especially during rapid acceration & deceleration. Iso holds are a great way to start investing time & energy in the hamstrings, and a different and productive way to utilise the couch!!... If these get easy, grab a folded towel or some thick socks & try some slides on a wooden/tiled floor. Look after those hammies! Good Luck!

25.01.2022 What's in a logo? ... Part One. "Begin with the End in Mind." This is one of Stephen Covey's "7 Habits of Highly Effective People".... So, we start there. ... The overall goal at PRIME is to better prepare our athletes for sport - any sport, at any level. We help athletes perform their sport better, now and into the future. ... Our athletes train to become faster, stronger and more athletic. A critical, often overlooked, basis of this is to build a capacity to train well, more frequently. ... We create individual foundations for athletic improvement by building quality mechanical and behavioural habits. ... With more than 50 years of firsthand experience across all levels of sport, PRIME can help you discover your personal best, because we've lived it. @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia See more

24.01.2022 Our current forced isolation presents both a NEED and an OPPORTUNITY, especially for young athletes who have had their routines halted, and structured team trainings and games cancelled. Young athletes NEED to have the discipline to maintain some physical capacity and readiness to return to the court or field. The alternative is greater risk of injury once our seasons are ready to restart. The OPPORTUNITY lies in the forced break we have from a lot of the repetitive impact st...ress that sport has on younger bodies. This break allows athletes the energy and time to dedicate to other areas of their athletic development. Movement mechanics, foundational strength, improved speed and athleticism are all often forced out of weekly routines. They are often the casualties of logistics and the perceived need for simply more skill sessions & private on-court/on-field trainings. A high-level international coaching friend of mine puts it simply: "Young athletes will get just as much improvement in their game NOW by improving their bodies, not just more skills. But the physical foundation they lay NOW will have them miles ahead in terms of workload capacity down the road." From our current situation, there is a NEED to come back ready. There is also an OPPORTUNITY to come back better. Good Luck!

24.01.2022 Good Squats make for much better and safer landings. Improving the way you control your body as you squat directly translates to the way you land. Being able to to better control and spread impact and force makes for much happier (and safer) joints.... Get better at sharing the load through your muscle groups! Your feet, ankles, knees, hips and spine will THANK YOU! (And you'll probably jump higher too!) Squat well, jump well, LAND WELL! Good Luck!

22.01.2022 A simple Push Up progression for young athletes working their way up to 'Full' version. Once 3 x 10 good Bench Push Ups are easy, give 3 x 10 'Half' (Kneeling) a try. Once they are easy, try 'Half' on the way up, and 'Full' (Toes) on the way down.... Once they are easy and still look good, give those Full Push Ups a try! Good Luck!

22.01.2022 There is a HUGE difference. ... To BE GREAT is the end result of the long, disciplined and challenging process to BECOME GREAT. ... There are NO shortcuts around it.

22.01.2022 Whats in a logo? ... Part Two. The Dumbell - Weights, Resistance, STRENGTH. ...... The centrepiece of any athletic development program (and therefore our logo) is building strength. Whether it is increasing our athletes' ability to: - absorb more force - express more force - change direction more safely and quickly - build a physical foundation for the journey toward a higher level of sport - or to simply be able to handle their typical sporting workload easier, building some variety of STRENGTH IS KEY. ... Once our athletes move well, we introduce the key WHATs, HOWs and WHYs of strength. We provide our athletes WHAT exercises to do and HOW to do them safely and effectively. The real power lies in the WHY. Once our athletes understand WHY these exercises work and they begin to feel the changes, that itself is a powerful tool in building successful preparation, training and recovery habits. ... Move well. Move often. Get STRONGER! @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

21.01.2022 More Sunday work. ... More athletes improving: Movement Quality Strength... Workload Capacity ... All aimed at getting back on court READY and BETTER. ... Prepare. Work. Recover. REPEAT! See more

20.01.2022 Every athlete wants to jump higher and run faster. One crucial (and often overlooked) link in the movement chain is the way we interact with the ground. The feet, ankles & calves play a huge role in the way we both absorb ground force when we land and also express our own force into the ground when run & jump. Stable, active, strong feet and calves also drastically reduce the risk of ankle rolls, and stress related injuries relating to impact load.... Building your feet and calves goes a long way to making you a stronger, faster, bouncier, and potentially safer athlete. Good Luck!

19.01.2022 Athletes, guess what... ... Strength Coaches can help you improve ALL THREE! ... (with some tactical & technical input from your team coaches of course!)... ... Keep improving how you move. Keep adding some strength. Keep improving your capacity to be great. See more

18.01.2022 A lot of us are doing a fair amount of sitting at the moment. We have to try to keep the glutes active, strong and ready to return to playing! Stay tall & proud, and control everything through the front foot & glute. Try to ease down slowly, drive up strong.... Progress up through 10-15 good stable reps on each side, then maybe add some light resistance, or even drive up off the floor to a small hop at the top. Stay safe & Good Luck!

15.01.2022 Move well and then add some strength. ... For those we haven't met yet, these are the foundations we give each athlete we work with.

14.01.2022 Who are we, really? ... Behaviours, habits, work ethic, manners, are they different when we think we have an audience? ... COVID isolation is testing what athletes are really like. It's a very difficult time, absolutely it is. Our eventual return to sport will clearly show which athletes are genuine about their desire to improve and which just talk about it.... ... Typically, what we're like when nobody is watching, eventually becomes obvious when they are. ... We WILL get back to sport, we will. Keep working so you're ready when we do. See more

13.01.2022 One of my favourite core exercises is the Deadbug (really imaginative name: on your back with arms & legs in the air). Stay very strict on your position, core strong, ribs locked down, and be sure to breathe as you go. Ensure long, extended & controlled reach every time, and really test yourself to maintain good reps as you progress through the variations. When you're ready, and if you have access some light resistance bands, light dumbbells or a swiss ball, there are a lot o...f ways to add difficulty & really test your core further. Good Luck!

11.01.2022 Chasing the goals of US college or Pro sport. ... LOTS of players around the world have those same goals! ... Maybe you don't need ANOTHER highlight video, or... 11.01.2022 What's in a logo? ... Part Three. The Runner - the athlete. ...... In it's simplest form, the symbol of a runner represents athleticism, it represents MOVEMENT. ... It is an essential part of the PRIME logo because we work with athletes. It has an essential position in our logo, FIRST, because quality movement is the foundation on which we build our athletes. ... The way we move, our ability to MOVE WELL is the necessary first step in developing athletes. Flexibilty, mobility and viewing movement as a SKILL comes before adding strength, speed or power. ... Passing, kicking and shooting are all skills we practice regularly to improve. Running, jumping and landing are also skills we should practice regularly to improve. ... One of the many quotes we embrace from my time at Core Advantage Athletic Development: "Thinking of an athlete like the driver of their own sports car, we should teach them how to steer, brake and handle the car well BEFORE we supercharge their engine." ... Step one, move well. See more

09.01.2022 Our TOUGHEST OPPONENTS in sport usually have the same characteristics. They're typically: HIGHLY SKILLED: they are technically very sound & can perform a variety of fundamental skills very well. ... FAST: they get their body organised quickly and can move in all directions with great speed. ...... STRONG: they can establish & maintain position very well, they make it very difficult for you to make position, and they can still perform skills very well through contact. ... SMART: they have a high game I.Q.. They seem to know exactly what to do and where to go at just the right times. ... So we know what "tough" opponents are like. We know what makes them difficult to play against. Invest more time & energy in more of the things that make YOU the tough opponent. ... Skills are vital, keep working on them, but they're not the only thing! ... MOVEMENT IS A SKILL, treat it that way. Learn to move well, move often, learn to move fast! ... GET STRONGER. Strength will not only make you faster and hard to move on the field/court, it supports you getting better at everything else. It will allow you to train your for your sport at higher intensity, for longer, more often. THAT is how your skills really improve. ... STUDY YOUR SPORT. Spend time watching your games, watch your opponents, watch the professionals/elites of your sport, but watch them analytically. Don't just watch highlights! Get to really know the decisions, movements & skills that consistently lead to scoring and good defensive plays. ... We know what makes a TOUGH OPPONENT. Do more of that stuff! See more

08.01.2022 This is the motto that guides everything we do! Every rep we lift, every set we do, every session we train and every game & season we play.

05.01.2022 How much do you want it? ... Coaches are definitely here to help, but your goal is YOUR goal. ... Yep, COVID isolation is very tough!... It is testing a lot of people's genuine drive and motivation. ... Sport will be back, and opportunities will still be there. ... Motivation is temporary, we can't rely on it.
