22.01.2022 Current COVID update for SA: The SA branch has provided the following advice regarding allied health practice as a result of the current COVID cluster: Clinicians are encouraged to reduce movement as much as possible, use telehealth where suitable and consider rescheduling over the next fortnight while the number of infections is being monitored. ... There is currently no specific restriction on allied health services, and they are excluded from the Direction on public activities. Clinicians are asked to use good clinical judgement to assess risks, complete pre-screening, provide suitable sanitation and social distancing. It is essential that clinics identify anyone who attends appointments for future tracking if needed. Masks There is currently no mandatory direction to wear masks within allied health services; however some clinics have their own requirements and people should be aware of risks. Masks in Aged Care Required within aged care facilities. Aged Care Visitors - allied health appointments are not being counted in the "restriction of 2 visitors per resident per day" rule. Aged Care "limited to working at one site" - clinicians who have casual appointments in aged care are not restricted to one site; however, there is the expectation they will ensure any facility they enter is aware in advance that they may enter other facilities, which facilities they are, and when. It is important they maintain full details of appointments to assist in tracking if needed. Group therapy within allied health clinics - this does not fall under the gym/fitness closure/restrictions. It is essential that clinicians consider social distancing obligations, pre-screening, sanitation, and risks associated with extra exertion and breathing. Gyms - If an allied health practitioner is co-located within a gym facility the clinician will need to work elsewhere (such as an allied health clinic) or cease practicing over this period. See more

20.01.2022 This is our first post since the outbreak and we hope you all are well. We thought we would update all our clients with what measures we have taken to avoid transmission the best we can. 1) Disinfecting the surfaces, areas that are in contact with people (wiping down the reception desk, phones, practitioner tables, treatment beds and head pieces), changing every sheet after use by another client. If people prefer they can bring their own towels for treatment. 2) Social distan...cing- the waiting area has been modified so no two people are sitting next to each other. Magazines and toys have been removed from the waiting area to avoid transfer. From tomorrow all physio exercise groups will be limited to two people per group. If people prefer to wait in their cars, we can call them when the practitioner is ready to see them to avoid waiting in the reception area. 3) Gym/ Pilate’s equipment wiped down after every use with disposable paper towels and disinfectant. 4) Washing hands after every visit and receptionist to do that every hour. 5) Hand sanitizer is available on the reception desk for before and after use for clients having appointments. 6) All staff and practitioners have been updating their infection control training developed by the department of health. Above all, if anyone feels unsafe please call and reschedule your appointment. Your health is our first priority and always will be. We are soon trying to implement tele-consults so if any of you require advice or exercises it would be possible. Please watch this space for more information and feel free to call us on 8297-3266 if you need any assistance. Stay safe. The Primecare team.

19.01.2022 Back pain treatment costs Australians almost $5 billion a year. Professor Ian Harris, Orthopaedic surgeon, says ' There is evidence that a structured physical therapy program ... is as good as spine fusion for people with chronic low back pain.' See physiotherapist Jenny McConnell work successfully with a patient who described her back pain as 'ten times worse than childbirth.' Treatment for back pain costs the nation almost $5 billion a year as more patients undergo expensive, complex surgery. But some argue there's little evidence that procedures such as spinal fusion are always the best option, and a new approach to treating back pain is needed.

09.01.2022 For the last fifteen years, PANDA has been using a week in November to raise awareness about perinatal mental illness and to reduce stigma so those affected can seek help. We’re not just raising awareness, but actually aiming to encourage real and lasting action across the country.... This year, we want to: Encourage those affected by mental health challenges to seek help to ‘tell someone who cares’ Educate care providers so they know how best to support expecting and new parents Build a broad system of care which includes PANDA’s services to be able to wrap around people who are struggling to meet their needs. 05.01.2022 Transition to Telehealth. During this interesting period we have embarked on providing our clients with the option of telehealth physiotherapy consults. Then they can advise you and help manage your pain and discomfort by education and self-management techniques. You can even have... a 1:1 exercise consult where the physiotherapist can show you the correct ways to exercise and stretch. Most conditions would be able to be managed by telehealth. The conditions that are not appropriate for telehealth physiotherapy, they will let you know and advise what further options you may have (eg: need for an X-ray/US/ CT scan or referral to a GP/ Specialist). If you are interested please call the clinic on 8297-3266 or email us on [email protected] so we can send you details of the entire process.
