19.01.2022 Why do you need to engage with an energy assessor for your build? In Tasmania new constructions of residential buildings, extensions and additions to existing homes must comply with the 6/10 Star requirement. The higher the Star number, the more energy efficient the home is likely to be when built, using less energy to achieve a comfortable heating level. The design, position and the materials you use for your build have an impact on the energy rating. Homes that include good environmental design can significantly reduce heating and cooling bills whilst having a positive effect on the environment.

15.01.2022 When you purchase a block of land there are many checks, permits and assessments required, one check includes checking the property boundaries. Who do you think is in charge of checking where your property boundaries are before you begin building?

15.01.2022 Illegal works is the term for building work which has been completed without the correct building or planning permits. If you suspect you have illegal works on your property it means that the work may not meet the the building code and therefore cost more to acquire the correct permits or cost more to rectify the work to meet the code requirements. We have even heard of situations where homes have been pulled down where the work cannot be rectified or the cost to rectify out weighs the cost of the home.

06.01.2022 You've just purchased a block of land in Tassie...Do you have to pay land tax? Land tax is an annual tax payable by the owner of land (classified as general land) each year. Properties that are taxable include vacant land, commercial properties, rental properties and shacks. Land tax is not payable on a property which is the owner's principal place of residence (principal residence land) or the land classified as primary production land. Property owners need to apply for either of these land classifications.

02.01.2022 It wasn't too long ago that drawings for new homes and renovations were all done by hand. We are lucky be be able to use some great software which helps us easily make changes to our drawings and floorplans. What would we do without technology?
