22.01.2022 BJJ Injury 2: Hyperextension of the elbow A common injury sustained by BJJ or Judo practitioners is hyperextension of the elbow joint from an arm lock or arm bar. During this technique the ligament on the inside called the "Ulnar collateral ligament" gets overstretched and when you hear a "POP" the ligament is either partially or fully torn. 15.01.2022 BJJ Injury 5: Foot Locks A technique called the foot lock is when you position the ankle in a downwards position and hyperflex it. A ligament called the ATFL and other structures can be injured. Ice, strapping, rest and slow mobility movements can speed up the recovery process. During a choke, the opponent may arch a certain way to get the "tap" and when they are arching, they may be overstretching ligaments and muscles around the neck. 07.01.2022 BJJ injury 3: Shoulder lock During a shoulder lock, there are many structures that can be injured. Theres muscles, ligaments, capsule and labrum that can all be damaged. A quick way to prevent this is to TAP EARLY. The shoulder is quite a mobile joint but once under stress, it doesnt take too much more for it to pop. If injured, a comprehensive assessment is required to identify the structures injured, and tailor a specific treatment plan for the injury.

It happens when you grab onto the gi and your training partner rips away to break free from your grip. If pulled in a sideways direction, it can strain the small ligaments in between the joints called the "Collateral ligaments" To fix this issue, ice for the first day, buddy tape to prevent further injury and rest. ...
